Hi, in this video we focus on two powerful fundamentals! 1) A La Prima technique,... painting the entire painting at one time from start to finish. 2) Using Lights and Darks is a powerful way to add excitement to a watercolor painting,... here we make sure to start out from the beginning with strong darks and then scale things back as we fully underway in the painting. Please feel free to contact me on you tube or at chrispetri@att.net with any questions or special requests. You may also view my web site at chrispetri.com on a google search. A special thanks to fellow KZfaq creator Carmen Rodriguez who creates and produces all of my incredible introduction videos! This was very very and I loved the finished piece. What I most took away from this was when you added the green and then encouraged the viewer to be sure to add green echos elsewhere in the painting. I sort of knew this but had forgotten but mostly was interested to see just how many places you added it in very subtle ways. I'll probably watch this one again. My 'thing' is still life but this has encouraged me to venture to scenes like this. Thanks, Maureen

I've not seen this style of painting. Your result is very appealing. I have only seen the light to dark method a la prima. Being a beginner I've got that afraid of the dark mentality. I'm working on it. This will be great to try. Thank you.

Thanks Annette, A La Prima is really fun to do,... it's seems less structured versus the glazing method. I am sure you will enjoy working on this new technique! Keep having fun and Happy Painting!

Thanks for the good demo! I used to start many of my watercolors with the dark values instead of layering up from the lights. But I've been thinking a lot lately of going back to that method at times. This was a good reminder

Hi Jenna, your very welcome! I like to mix and match both techniques,....I think it is really good as a w/c artist to have a good command of both styles of painting, specifically when encountering difficult conditions painting outdoors. I hope your art is going great Jenna! Thanks for watching!

Great attitude to have, that's the learning process! Each new painting we learn a few more things with our senses and perception,.... things beyond the obvious.

@@cpetri766 Thanks yeah I have to do it over again. I have two completely different color schemes on each side of the telephone pole lol. So I think Imma do it without the pole, I like the composition and would like one for my wall. I may even leave out the boat.

I’m slow off the Mark this week Chris. Great demo using only about six colours which gave a great outcome. You know my preference for anything with boats lol.

Thanks Brian, I appreciate that. I didn't think I was going to have as much fun with this demo, but I just got into the zone and this is one of my latest fav's. :0) I agree, the limited palette is really great,...I think it help us to mix more greys.
