That recipe has been around a lot longer than you think it has. I am 65 years old and I learned it from my Granny. It has been called Funeral Potatoes in the south because someone always brought it to a funeral. My Granny made it entirely from scratch, including the "chicken soup" part. She would parboil the potatoes the day before and chill them over night. She would grate them while they were cold. She also made her own sour cream and butter. In case you can't tell, we are a farm and ranch family. My Granny said she learned the recipe from her mom. During the depression they would dice some ham and add it and call it supper!

Could put chicken, turkey or grass fed hamburger, much healthier than ham. There is gluten free soups as well. The only we can’t eat it at cb is because they put wheat in the ingredients. Shredded cheese and soups.

@@barbaralyons6379Try Cream of mushroom, or Better Than Bouillon Vegetable, it's Delicious! I make it from scratch using Yellow Gold potatoes parboiled, & just chunked. This is the same as Ore-Ida's cheesy potato recipe. It was printed in a magazine somewhere back in the late 60's or early 70's. My mother got it from a friend. so we always called it "Peg's Potatoes" and had it every Thanksgiving. Mom brought a tray of it to a church pot-luck and a woman asked her for the recipe. This lady, "Barb" began circulating the recipe as her own "old family recipe". Since then, we call it "Barb's potatoes" in 'honor' of Barb. The recipe thief.

🤣🤣🤣 There's a cookbook put out here in Canada by a group of Mennonite women called "Mennonite Women Can Cook". They pass off recipes as authentic Mennonite recipes that actually come from flour companies and old non-Mennonite cookbooks. Cracks me up every time I see one of them.

I have a similar recipe. I added a pound of bacon, cooked crisp and then crumbled into the potatoes. The original recipe called for 6 bacon slices (cooked and crumbled ) but that wasn't enough to satisfy my family. So i jacked the amount of bacon up to a pound.
