Here are my steps for creating a watchtower with stonework that has a 3D effect to it... varying thicknesses and dimensions give it that hand-built look. Easy to duplicate with some chipboard (thin cardboard), some foam, and a blade and glue.

The baby wipe container full of IKIA and target furniture wrenches as a texturing box for cut XPS foam is amazing. No hate. No sarcastic shade. Just love. AMAZING. Great video on the whole from one dad running d&d for young kids to another - Keep. It. Up.

Ha. Yeah, use what ya got. I collect hex wrenches like I collect minis... just can't seem to toss them out and they work great for texturing foam.

This is pretty cool. Looks like a dice tower!

You could probably easily modify the interior to make it serve as a dice tower.

Running a D&D game for kids that age can be so much fun (as long as you don't get any munchkins).

I hope your son and his friends had a great time with the little adventure you put together. My 10 year old son decided he wanted to get into D&D back in 2020 (right after the lockdowns started) so we got into 5e together ( I had not played D&D in some 14+ years). We have been having a great time playing since (though not always as often as we would like)

This is so cool. My 12 year old wanted to play so I went and got him a book and some dice. I haven't played since high school. He quickly lost interest though :( Oh well. I got into building stuff b/c I just like making things and painting. Maybe one day we'll make some characters and play a scenario. Hope y'all have/had fun!

Cool quick, simple craft. I'm thinking of using foamcore and foam paper plates to cut bricks frome -- I'll get the varied depth, without needing to deal with cutting them from a sheet of XPS foam. Thanks for the design!

That's a good idea... foam plates for thinner bricks. Let us know how it works for you.

Four boys -age 11. Never played before. They met a cleric on the road (because they didn't have a cleric in the party) who was desperate to find help for her small community. A nearby watchtower was giving off strange lights at night, and skeletons began terrorizing the town. The NPC joined them in entering the tower and discovered a hidden ladder going down to a small dungeon where an evil wizard was raising his own army of skeletons. They had a blast... lots of combat and a few traps tossed in as they explored. They want to make it an every-week kinda thing, but I told them every other week was better.

@@TheTabletopEngineer Yeah, give them a chance to gather their thoughts and maybe plan ahead. Also to have something to look forward to. And if you are DM you DO need time to set up a new adventure eh? 😉 Sounds like they had fun though which is the main thing. 👍😀

It looks like a good, roughly built tower. That's one of the things that the more regular patterns don't have in comparison to the slightly ramshackle design there. Unfortunately, it would stick out in what I have because my terrain tends to be more regular in design save for a few where there is some repair work done in them when i wanted to have a small part where it's from some wrecked building sets that I wanted to have as part of a village where they reclaimed some ruins and rebuilt them.

That’s awesome! My son pestered me about DMing when he was 11. I finally gave in and started a campaign for him, his best friends, and a few of the dads. That was in 2012. He’s 21 now and still plays with my group, as do the dads. 😂 I hadn’t played since 1990 before I stared playing with him.
