Came back to look at this as I am making up a couple of sets of sci-fi toy soldiers for kids, 1:32 for youngsters and 1:72 for 7 and older. Re the wheels, in the larger scale I used barbecue skewers for the axles with toy truck wheels and in the smaller scale I use Lego wheels and axle plates. Kids like wheels that work so the barbeque skewers are secured to the base using 2mm greyboard (chipboard in the US I think) forming two short tunnels, one to each side. For windows I found some cheap 1 inch and 2 inch diameter 2-part plastic spheres (fill-it-yourself xmas decorations). Your body looks better than mine, I'll add more greebles in future.

Hello, I congratulate you on the great video you have made, for those of us who have no idea how this is going. I just bought a Proxxon and I still haven't mastered the machine very well. One of my many doubts is how to make a piece square. Example: I have a rectangle with all sides with ripples. How would I have to make sure that all sides are square? I hope you will help me on this issue. Thank you. Best regards.

I recently bought my Proxxon and these tips will help my a lot. So thank you! My only question is, what kind of foam are you using for this? I've tried with some foam that I had in my house but it always gets a sticked piece of it burning in the wire during every cut.

I make up toy soldier sets to give away to less well off folks, so cost is an issue, for sci-fi landing gear I like press-studs ('poppers' in the US?) with a nail knocked through the stud and secured with superglue. For nacelles I like Plastruct tube and domes, bit pricey but nice and if you build using plastic card they glue well using microweld.

I'm assuming it's a lightweight, bendable, black mesh. Maybe similar to a cheap waste paper basket? Or model trains shop? Or could it be a material that is made of soft plastic? Would a cake shop sell this too?

Army Painter Quick Shade is just urethane-stain, with AP's label on the can. You can use any urethane-stain, any brand, and get similar results. Only differences are the variety of colors available, and the price: AP's Quick Shades are 2x-3x the price of a DIY store's urethane-stains. This is the classic, *Dip Technique*, from the 1990's, re-badged, re-packaged, at a higher price. I've *Dip*'ed 1,000+ figures over the past 30 years. I do simple block painting, then I brush on the urethane-stain, wicking away the excess pools with a brush, and the edge of a paper towel, before it dries. Then I hit the figures with a matte clear coat. I average 10 minutes, per figure, using assembly line painting: figures grouped by pose, same brush stroke/same color, on each figure, in succession. When I finish a group, it is quite an accomplishment, and a real joy, as I finish them in large groups! Urethane-stains, from your local DIY stores can be found in water-based formulas, which have drastically less odor, and dry in less than two hours! They also have a much greater variety of colors available. I prefer any dark Walnut color, over black (Tudor). The results are amazing. Cheers!

I would recommend leaving the backing on until the tiles are cut up. If you do this you will save yourself a lot of trouble & a clean adhesive surface. 😊

I love it. I think at least two more drawers. As @DanielAKA said, something specific for glue bottles/epoxy/putty, so they won't cause too much damage if they leak. And def a pallet, but disposable like mini paper plates and precut parchment sheets. Paper towels are a must, but a whole roll would take up too much space. And a brush cup is a must, but again maybe disposable? A mini cutting mat? (Is all that too much?)
@TheTabletopEngineer10 ай бұрын
I have a collapsible metal brush cup that is connected magnetically to the removable lid on top of the miniature holder. Also a magnetized tin of brush soap.

The empty space could be used for glue bottle holders (so they are not on their side) and maybe a palette. An army painter palette would fit nice as long as your don't want to reuse the paint. Or some cheap plastic or metal palettes

Very nice. What software did you use to add the tabs? I'm getting a laser cutter soon and have some ideas for storage boxes and such and using tinkercad is probably the way I will go but would be good to know what I could use for the tabs. Thanks.
@TheTabletopEngineer10 ай бұрын
I add the tabs manually in Inkscape. I haven't found an automated way that takes into account the thickness of the material so the tabs are cut in such a way they are auto-flushed to outside edge (if that makes sense).

Nice idea. How about on each flat side of a square, you put one male and one female connector. The male always on the right, and the female always on the left. In that way it does not matter in which way you put them, they will always connect. (to clarify, you would get 8 connectors per square).
