I partnered with The Container Store to design and organize my dream craft room and workspace, and the entire thing was put together and organized in just ONE DAY (in less than 5 hours to be precise)!
I love using Elfa systems in closets, but I was shocked at how beautiful this would look right on the wall! I was able to get two desk areas, five peg boards, nine deep drawers and shelving for days - so much craft storage! If you need more storage, make sure you talk to a custom design specialist at The Container Store near you!

I'm a retired EMS instructor. There are review books available for every level of EMS. Most of them will have practice tests in them. You can find them online. With your high anxiety, go thru 10 questions at a time. Then close your eyes, clear your mind & relax. IF you have a test question that absolutely stumps you, pick "C". C is the more commonly correct answer. Always remember: how do you eat an elephant....one bite at a time! Good luck, you've got this!

Pretend you’re starting a new career as a voiceover artist: record your 1st “audio book” by recording yourself reading the review book. Then, play that audio book non-stop until the exam. You got this!!

I agree with @mzjo2761. I would recommend doing practice questions from review books. I'm a registered nurse and prior to taking the NCLEX (exam to earn my RN) I practiced hundreds, maybe thousands of questions and passed the first time :)

As a former teacher, please don't tell people they are smart or not smart. Instead say that they are hardworking! This lets them be in control of how much effort they put into something. You work hard, Cass- that is for sure! Keep up the good work. I have craft room envy - that system is amaze balls! I love the big bins that you can just toss things in and take with you to another room.

Room looks amazing! Tips from 30 years of teaching: Try studying different information in different locations. I used to study different chapters on different floors of the library or at least different rooms. When I'd be taking a test I could picture where I was when I studied that information which would help me remember and connect other information that went with it. (Hits environmental memory) Color coding different topics also helps. (Hits visual memory) Turning info into a tune or rhyme or chant can help with memory as well. (Hits auditory memory) Oh, and when you read information that you need to understand and remember, be sure to read out loud and rewrite the info in your own hand. This completes a cognitive loop integrating multiple senses of seeing, hearing and movement increasing your ability to remember. (This has been proven to improve spelling and vocabulary learning for sure). Hope it goes well for you!

I spent several years as a teaching assistant, mostly working one on one, tutoring high school students who were struggling. I found certain suggestions really made a big difference! So I love the points you made! I used to do something similar. I was super great at phone numbers. So when I took the postal service exam, for example, it was several instances of being presented a page of five boxes with five names and addresses in each..with very little time to remember, I decided to sing in my head: the box letter(ie A) then the last name followed by the last four digits of the phone number (ie A. Mitchell call 4376... A Adams call 4582, etc. I scored a 98% overall. Whew. Now, I've had a major stroke in my memory center. Frustrating! I've turned to reading aloud, and talking out loud, when reading or doing something I really want to recall later. I'm glad I live alone or "The tp is in the bottom cupboard. I feed the cat at 9. Need to put the lease in the file box under new desk..." Would probably get annoying. Lol! But it's helping...

Honestly Cass, I think you are very smart. As someone with autism and ADHD, and with three kiddos who are also the same kind of neurospicy, I can absolutely understand where you may think that, especially with going through school systems that didn’t factor in our brains. I hope despite you joking around saying you are dumb, I hope inside you know how truly smart and brilliant you are. Your brain is so talented, and even if your mind goes fast and all over the place, you are creative and have managed to help not only yourself, but so many other people. Our ADHD may make things very difficult, but oh my goodness does it make some things easier and better. We just have to relearn a lifetime of put downs and see where they were, in fact, wrong or not looking at the whole picture. An aside, for your test, embrace that last minute pressure and have your family quiz you with practice tests, make it a game, give those acronyms new ridiculous memorable connections (that’s the only way I could remember them), and know that at the end of the day, a test does not tell you your worth. It is just a game, so play it the best you can and see if you beat your high score 🖤 So much love and encouragement from your friend in VA

I agree! From everything you do and say, it is evident that you are very intelligent. I love how you don’t give up. Like when your first client’s houses got messy again. You asked yourself questions and observed what was going on and came up with the different clutterbugs. Then you teach this to others. Re: the test - Remember that a lot of these questions are mostly about scenarios where you would observe and ask questions and use your common sense. For the difficult questions to remember the answers to - look at the answer and try to discover “why” that is the answer. That’s the great thing about medical procedures they aren’t arbitrary 😁

Index cards make great flash cards and are easy to carry around with you so when you have a few free minutes you can pull them out to study. Acronym on the front and written out wording on the back. Start with 5-10 and when you feel that you know them well enough add in another 5 or so and build up till you have them all memorized. Works really well. Best of luck on your test!!!

I returned to college after a 25 year hiatus to raise my family. Adult students are definitely better students. We want it, we’re paying for it and we want to do well. My best studying advice is: read the material, highlight and take notes. Do it again and then one more time. Each time making your notes even better and in the style that helps you learn. You can do it!

Study tips for ADHDers!! Get a lined paper and write the acronym on one side, and fold the other side to the halfway mark. Write the definition on the folded part, then you can just flip the page open to check your answer. Legit the best. It's interactive enough that its less boring than flashcards! Also, each page completed of definitions hits that dopamine!

The Clutter Bug concept is so real. I'm a Bee. I don't mind having stuff out everywhere, until it's in my way. Nothing enrages me more than having to open a drawer, pull out a container, and then pull the lid off of that container in order to get what I need. I love drawers, but whatever I put in them is typically loose. There might be dividers, so that I can separate out different categories of things that share the same space, but omg, do not make me nest one container inside another, and especially do not give me an opaque container!

Record the questions and answers on your phone: - 1. recite the question 2. Pause for 5-10 seconds 3. Recite the answer. The goal the listen to the recording and you to be able to say the answer in the 5 to 10 second pause. Initially you will probably listen to the question and then listen for the answer. After 2 to 3 listens you should be able to give the answer before you hear it. Break this down into sets of 7 to 10 questions. This is great because you can listen to it while you’re doing other things, even driving. This is how I studied for tests during graduate school when I had a 1.5 hour commute each way and worked full-time. Good luck! You’ve got this!

Both to study and for the test, make sure you are well fed (fruits, veg, lean protein, whole grains, not junk food, limit sugar), rested and hydrated. This will help your concentration and recall enormously. Listen carefully to what your instructor has said - chances are they’ve given tips re what’s on the exam and how to do well. As others have said, cue cards you can carry with you so you can review in bite sized chunks, reading study materials out loud, and walking to and fro as you read and review can help. (Or using a cross trainer or other piece of home exercise equipment.) Study in short, intense bursts and take breaks, but time your breaks so they don’t become procrastination-fests. Don’t beat yourself up for not studying before now - with your fast-firing brain, you can do this, and your recall will be better because you reviewed it so recently. If you possibly can, study while doing mindless tasks, like cleaning or folding laundry. Your brain was made to multi-task! As you get closer to the exam, you will probably naturally tap in to hyper-focus. Good luck on your exam - you can do this!

You have to make your study session a game show! I always used index cards for questions /answers, vocabulary/definitions, acronyms, put steps in order. To get through reading material? Read aloud in your best favorite actor/actress voice. Read the chapter questions first. Do what you have to do to read it. I had my students make a picture dictionary of vocabulary. Good luck, Cass! Look for quizzes on the internet-my kids call me old fashioned! 🤣

I have ADHD too and what helps me the most is writing things down and then getting someone to quiz me. When I was a kid memorizing my times tables my mother had me go to different spots in the room and stand in odd positions (like balance on one foot, or touch my toes etc) and recite one of the multiplication problems. I did a different pose and location for each one of ten different math problems and continued to rotate around the room until I had memorized my 7s times tables. I still remember 7s! So with rote memorization, I would do the same thing. Write it on a flash card and give the flash card to one of your kiddos and then go around the house and stand in an odd position reciting what was on each of the flash cards and have your kiddo confirm if you are correct. If not, they will tell you what the correct answer was and you will repeat it while still standing in that odd position. There is something about the positioning of our bodies in an odd way that helps activate the ADHD brain to be able to store the information.
@amandacoelho70
@amandacoelho70 9 ай бұрын
I have used this method for my kids as well and it really seems to work. You eventually get to a point that just standing in that location/position helps you recall the info.

Prayers for great test results!! My daughter was an EMS, and met her husband, a firefighter, on several calls. That was 8 years ago. ❤️ She then went through the firefighters academy, and graduated, but got a shoulder injury on the last day of physical training that required 2 surgeries. She was never released by the doctor, so she now works with my husband in sales. She sure misses the Adrenalin rush though! I wish you the best results. She passed the first time, and she has some of the issues that you do. Don’t let others get you down, don’t think you’re not smart, think positively. YOU’VE GOT THIS!! ❤❤❤

I too, am someone who doesn't like tests, the word alone shuts off my brain. Being OCD, I figured out a way that worked, not only for me but for later in life, for my students. First off, the more ways you can get the information into your head, the better. That's what I always told my reading students to do and it works. Reading, writing, and hearing. Read out loud to yourself. As you do so, write up an outline of what you read. Once you are finished reading and writing the outline. Use the outline to study. If there's anything you don't remember, you'll know where to go in what you read to find the answer and get it into your head once again, by reading it out loud. You can add extra notes to your outline to help you remember next time to read the outline. Great craft room by the way! 🥳

You can do it, Cas!! I just recerted my CPR for the 4th time a couple months ago, and I'm up for my 4th Wilderness First Responder recert next year. Getting an audiobook of the textbook (or, in my case, turning an ebook into a pdf into an audiobook) and using flash cards (personally, I used 3"x5" that are lined on one side, and I cut them in half like I did for my language classes, and write the term/acronym on one side and the explanation/meaning/etc. on the other - sometimes I punched a hole in one corner so that I could put them on a jump ring to keep them all together and be less likely to lose them) were my saviors. I've made it through 3 WFR recerts and 4 CPR recerts that way.

Taking time to do little by little can add up to the point you memorized without knowing it! You can do anything you put your mind and effort to. Go Cass go!

Test help…listen to one album or playlist with about 5 or six songs. Nothing too outrageous, but something you like. Keep playing this over and over as you study. During test day you can think about the music to help calm you down and your brain will go to the content that you were studying as you listened. Even better is if your instructors would allow you to listen as you write to help calm your anxiety. Best of luck and beautiful craft room. I always wanted a wrapping centre as well.

Our brains tend to remember things with high emotion and music better. So my husband and I pretend to yell things we are afraid we will forget. We are not sure if it was the fake anger or the humor, but it works. In college, I would create songs of long lists I had to memorize. Maybe you could make your own YMCA song to memorize your acronyms. Our ADHD brains tend to store things well under pressure. I'm praying your cramming pays off. BTW, I am so envious of your gorgeous office, craft, and wrapping room. It is functional and beautiful!!

I love the Elfa Storage system. ❤ After Habitat for Humanity finished building my house (some 23/24 years ago now), the closets had no shelving. So, I kind of shopped around and, went with Elfa Storage from The Container Store for the three bedrooms and, a panty/storage closet at the end of the hallway. I bought wire shelves, hang standards, rods, etc. ONLY when The Container Store had the Elfa Storage system on sale at 30% off. But, even on sale Elfa is/can be pricy. Although, it's really nice, sturdy and, heavy duty. The two bedrooms have a hanging rod and, two wire shelves. The panty/storage closet has around 5/6 wire shelves and, the master bedroom, being a walk-in closet, it has like some 6/7 rods, and many wire shelves. The last items I bought around 3 years ago, were for the master bedroom. In one spot, I put in 7 mesh wire baskets (vertically) and, two of the baskets have shelves over them. That's where the sock, under garments and pj's go. ❤Yeah, I recommend Elfa Storage!

I LOVED that job!! I "got" to go to work every day, didn't "have" to go to work, y' know? I did that for 12 years. **sigh** Oh the stories... Good luck, sweetie! Let us know how you do.

My favourite way to remember things is to put it as lyrics to a song that is catchy. Acronyms - which I also hate - you could make a cheer leader routine to 😂 never did this last one but it came to mind and sounded fun and physicall movements can solidify knowledge.

This looks great!! I just dismantled my craft storage to make my girls’ room more functional, so I have a messy blank slate. Love this inspiration! Do the lids make it harder for ladybug tendencies? For studying, make silly songs or rhymes to go along with the things you need to memorize. That really helped me a lot in school, and I’m pretty sure I’m from a whole family of undiagnosed ADHD.

OMGGGGG i'm taking my final exam for paramedic later this week i cannot believe this timing! study in small increments, and give yourself frequent breaks. i've found the weirder your way of remembering something the better. i know cyclobenzaprine is a muscle relaxer because i imagine a cyclops horse being hit by a tranquilizer and it's muscles "relax". i know that bruising around your belly button as a result of bleeeding in your abdomen, is called Cullen's sign, because a classmate said she imagined edward cullen from twilight sucking blood out of a belly button. these are unhinged memory devices, but i've found when testing, the unhinged ways i remember stuff cuts through the anxiety, nervousness and fear of not passing. you remember AVPU and SAMPLE already and that's half the battle! you got this!! good luck on your exam 💕

I worked on an ambulance years ago and now I’m an RN. Sounds silly, but making things into songs helped me remember a lot. Sometimes the funnier the better because you tend to hold onto goofy things (at least I do). Craft room is awesome! Good luck on the exam!!

Assuming the test will be online at a testing center, doing multiple choice practice questions in the same format. For nurses, there are apps that ask practice questions for passing the NCLEX, as well as specialty certifications. Good luck! Just remember the heart must perfuse the brain by itself, or with assistance, and the airway must be clear and open.
