I feel like being musically smarter everyday whenever I watched your tutorials. I wrote songs for my choir and I unknowingly used your theory. Motif, repeat and so on. I could be sitting down and have this melody flowing in my head. I just whisper it on my phone recording and later arrange it with chords, cadence, rhythm on my keys. You are a true blessing. Keep those videos coming bro. Thanks!!

Something I've noticed that moves a song forward is when the melody goes someplace unexpected and a new chord progression goes with it.

Okay! I write the songs I hear. I mean ... I can hear the instruments, lead vocals, background vocals. I wrote a song several years ago that appears to go against established rules for songwriting. I performed it for a women's conference and received a favorable response. I shopped it around to a few people, but because it does not fit the conventions prescribed for commercial use, it hasn't gained much traction. Have you known lyricists to change original works to fit commercial standards? One engineer explained, "If you can hear it, it can be played. It may be embellished. Don't let anyone change what you heard."
@PianoLessonwithWarren
@PianoLessonwithWarren 7 жыл бұрын
Bonnie Simpson first thing , there's no "rule" for songwriting... we observe over the decades the songs that gained popularity, analyze them to see what made the so popular, then try to replicate the creative elements used, but there's no rule, no absolute. Secondly, commercial songwriting is a whole other ball game.... producers are looking for specific melodies, lyrics rhythms etc...if that's what you want to do then you'll have tailor you songs for that. I don't do the commercial thing for that very reason - it's super limiting to creativity.

@PianoLessonwithWarren
@PianoLessonwithWarren 6 жыл бұрын
mukul kumar well just like writing poetry or lyrics, writing melody requires or acting that skill, and it takes time. There is no wrong or right way to approach this, so just start. Listen to artist, and music you admire, listen to how the create the melodies.

@@Joyceluze the more time you put in, the faster you see results. With that said, you do what you can when you can - consistency is the biggest key.

@@PianoLessonwithWarren ok. But for example 3hours per day is good or not ? Or it’s better to do shorter session ?
@PianoLessonwithWarren
@PianoLessonwithWarren Жыл бұрын
@@Joyceluze again, it’s not a bout quantity, but quality. You can spend 3hrs without any structure or goal and make zero progress. Or spend an hour with structure and a goal in mind, and accomplish a lot. Number of hours “practicing” doesn’t mean anything if you’re not following a structured plan
