Demystifying Slash Chords: Your Key to Musical Innovation
The video is a piano lesson about the use of different bass note with your chords to create new sounds.
The lesson discusses slash chords, which are chords that have a note other than the root in the bass.
Slash chords can be used as passing chords in progressions, providing a unique sound.
Advanced applications of slash chords involve using them with sevenths and other extensions to create complex chord progressions.
The instructor encourages viewers to experiment with resolving the bass note of slash chords to achieve different musical effects.

I don't know if you still get comment notifications, but I came here, because I realized that I could not remember which way to play the C/F notation! YIKES! 😬 I could not remember if I was supposed to play the F chord with C in the bass or vice versa, so I typed in "chords with a different note in the bass" in the KZfaq search window, and selected your video. This lesson was really great. Now I am clear that the notation going from left to right, ALWAYS lists the chord first and THEN the bass note played in the left hand. I ALSO learned, for the first time, that this type of chord has a name: "slash-chord!" I never knew there was a term for this type of chord! NOW I know! I really appreciated how you explained HOW to use the slash chords in different ways! It sounded so beautiful!! That descending chromatic chord progression beginning at 8:21 was also gorgeous!! 😍 I am excited when the time comes for me to apply these concepts to the keyboard! Thank you so very much, Mr. McPherson!!! I wish you and your family many, Many, MANY blessings! 😁 🎹 😁 🎹 😁🎹 😁🎹

Just think of it like a fraction, C on top and F on the the bottom ( C over F). So C chord with a F Bass.

Man you are the best by far !!! I’m a KZfaq learner stuck into transposing and man by the grace of god your pulling me out of transposing. And your teaching is great and very clear and you give us theory to apply to all keys can you teach us exercises that work flexibility to do those sick runs and fills. Keep putting up vids man your spreading God’s gift so young musicians like me can change the youth and bring them to god with these things your teaching keep it up .

@PianoLessonwithWarren
@PianoLessonwithWarren 6 жыл бұрын
Olugbenga John not quite sure I understand. What ever fills and runs you play should be diatonic (meaning the not belongs to the key). Unless you’re doing so jazzy stuff using altered and extended chords which will give you more option to use non-diatonic notes. This is a more advance uses of runs thought, so I would recommend practicing runs and fills using diatonic notes first.

Parth Kathuria Di slash chords are not use ever where. There are some standard slash chords you’ll see. In the Bass you’ll have either the 3rd, 5th, or 7th, those are the most standard you see. You all see 4 over 5 an example is Bb/C is in the key of F. It’s important to know that slash chords are not something you just randomly use anywhere. They usually serve a harmonic function add a particular effect and they usually have have a specific why that need to resolve.

16:16 Isn't that Cm6/Eb (without a fifth) as there is no F ? Chord has to have atleast the root and the 3rd afaik :D

l0wbtry good question, theoretically it could be called Cm6/Eb, but because of the context in which the chord is being used it would be F/Eb. Have you heard the term "rootless voicing?" This commonly used in jazz when A chord is voiced without the root.

Idea...let's create a new classification The slash X chord X1 would be the chord in first inversion X2 second inversion X3 third inversion Just to be specific Ok another idea Spread the tonality out Put the bass not an octave lower so we can hear it stand out
