This is one of the reasons why most crane accidents are caused by the operator. When operating you have to be very focused on the entire operation. As a certified crane operator for close to 30 yrs. I always apply the words shall and should. In other words I shall never assume the spreader is high enough. Crane operators have big responsibility and requires highly trained operators for safe operations. Chances are the spreader got damaged. That was a costly mistake.

I have about a year and a half or so experience with dual bridge indoor over head cranes and I've caught product on the side of processing tanks twice this way. So I decided to take some time off of it to.... Re-center? myself with operating them because the stress and anxiety started to build more than I wanted.

You can do thousands and thousand of containers You can do 40 plus boxes per hour but you will only be remembered by your last F&^K UP

True that!!!!
@RoddyRod00795 жыл бұрын
Firstly raise that spreader all the way up so it can clear over the stacks before fully trolly back over. Always know how those boxes are stacked. If they are 8 high, you already know you have to raise the spreader much higher to clear it safely.

Location? This is what happens when you get too confident in your abilities. Must've pulled this exact move a million times but this time he was too low. Shame but at the end of the day we're all humans, until they phase us out completely anyway lol
@Container_World5 жыл бұрын
Yes, way to confident or just not paying attention... We are all Humans yes, and it is hard when moving to another hatch and try not to swing the same path... Could happen to anyone?
@allenlobussr7562 жыл бұрын
When you drive for many years, this is very easy to do....remember, the operator is traveling in reverse. He won't see that stack until it's too late. Been there and done that....doesn't mean you are careless! Fired? cmon man! You have no idea what is involved until you operate for any length of time!

It could happen to anyone, yes. Maybe for excess of confidence, distraction, tiredness. BUT, that's when defensive operating practices are important! To minimize the possibility of this to happen even when the previous reasons happen. Besides, nowadays cranes are so fast that it does not pay off to work with spreader that low anyways... Don't you think?
@Dani-it5sy5 жыл бұрын
Saying this could happen to anyone basically says anything can happen to anyone. Not a very good excuse. Nobody think this guy is just very inexperienced ??
@rbuzio5 жыл бұрын
@@Dani-it5sy When I said it could happen to anyone I did not meant to use it as an excuse. It just means if you're a crane operator there's always the probability of human fault. It also means as an operator one needs to be prepared to take responsability for one's actions and mistakes. Yes, it might be the case this operator was inexperienced but, personally, I've seen it happen with the best ;)

i´ve been operating STS for 10 years and teaching new operator for 2. And that in this video is most likley the effect of 1 out of 2 things: 1: the operator think he/she is the fastest in the world and want to show it of to his boss. Or 2: He is stressed out by his boss to do a "minimum" GMPH or he won´t be coming back.

maybe failure in automatic system ever thought of that?? when spreader is high enough you press a pedal and it goes automatic backwards to the shore i see alot of skilled and experiance crane operaotrs comment here so they for sure know that system exist on some cranes when the crane had techical issue and where out of order for a few hours and there is the tide and water raise and forget to set the new height this happens when you press that pedal thats also the reason it keep going back to shore and not stops a human would stop for sure seeing the spreader crash sorry for my bad english writing
