Having been involved in the logging industry for many years, my heart sank when you started on that tree. You did everything wrong but thank goodness that you are OK. You could use this video to show people what NOT to do. You learn from your mistakes. Keep safe.

Take trees just like munchie is a chain saw notche one side and then go around to the other side cut and push make sure when your pushing that the cutter is tilted way forward practice with smaller trees first till you get the hang of it 😉 👍 😊

That tree was leaning towards you before you even started to grind it. Should have ground a little off the other side so it would have fallen where you wanted it to. Glad you did not get hurt.

As soon as I saw where you were gonna start on the pine my mind began yelling: NO NO NO! STOP STOP STOP. My dad had his own timber business and all 6 of us kids learned the ins and outs of tree felling. BUT, you did a GREAT save on catching and redirecting tree. So very glad you are escounced in a protective cage!!!👍👍

Honestly man I respect that you posted this mistake, a lot of people don’t so props to you. What I normally do, is go to the exact other side where you’re going to cut. Cut about half way in, then go back to where you were so the gaps where you want it to fall. Then cut an push with the bar, I have the same head so I understand why you did what you did because the bars mounted so far forward it’s impossible to mulch one side without it coming back. Just want I’ve learned, I did the same thing you did a while back an learned from there lol keep up the good work man. I’m also from SC so it’s cool watching your vids, maybe one day our paths with cross 🙏🏻

That was definitely a risky move. Mulching the wrong side of the tree could have led to some serious consequences if it fell in the wrong direction. It's crucial to assess the tree's lean and plan the cutting accordingly. Safety should always be the top priority. Perhaps considering a different approach, like mulching a specific percentage on one side and then strategically cutting and pushing from the back, could yield better results. Stay safe out there! 🌳⚠🪓

Wow nearly crapped my pants when I saw the tree headed towards the cab...trees are very unpredictable and can do the impossible..just thing like when you take down a tree normally making the notch and relief cut...maybe on this one that may have worked but pine trees they will get ya...great content and the machine is a beast ..might be a business I would like to explore and get into. Appreciate you sharing your day 😊🇺🇸🚜👍😎

I liked how you used monster munchie to block and push the tree away from the bobcat. If you didn't act quickly it would have been much worse. Great paying attention skills. I love how you reacted quickly to a near disaster and prevented it from happening, if that protection guard wasn't in place it would be more dangerous

There’s no upside to slicing the tree up while it is standing like that. Start on the other side, cut 1/3 through the tree about 2 feet up, then simultaneously push and cut 2 feet up on the other side. In other words, use the machine to do a face cut exactly as you would with a chainsaw. Worry about slicing it up after it’s on the ground. Better yet, if it is important that you miss nearby fences and magnolias, set the head against one side of the tree to prevent it from falling that way, then just drop it with a chainsaw. Way more control. It’s good to see when lessons like this get learned, especially when nothing especially bad happens, but make sure you actually learn the lesson. 😁

Hey, Davin: The angle where you shot this video really shows how difficult it is to operate a forestry mulcher. You've got to be so aware of which direction the debris is thrown - front or back, depending on the direction you move. That looks so tricky, but man, do you know how to handle the discharge. Your working that machine is like watching an artist at work. Quite amazing talent. I hope you are doing well as you work through the loss of your beloved girlfriend. You're quite a good man.....and a fine mulcher artist too. Great video.

That tree would have made some nice boards. You essentially created a birdsmouth cut (if you were using a chainsaw), which is the leaning/weighted side for the planned fall. You likely realize this now, but take a couple short passes a foot or so off the ground and then go to the other side, stepping you passes up a little higher. Technically, a tree this size should be felled using a saw for the safest result.

Quick thinking save with the pine tree. I suspect cutting the pine with a chain saw would give you a greater degree of control and safety. Here in Australia, the hardwood trees are very very tough and besides taking a much greater time to grind through to have them fall to the ground, the hardwood trees drop large boughs, some of which are so heavy they can crush a ROPS and FOPS cage.

Well, a tree always fall in the direction of where most branches are, where the big weight is? Lesson learned I guess?😊 And pushing that far down on the trunk would always make the tree fall towards you? If you had an '"arm " with the bucket pushing way up on the tree, it would have been easier to control? How you grind the stump down, love it!🤗

All I can say is thank God for having a forestry treated cab on that ASV. You never think you're going to need it when you get a skid with one on, but times like these or if the tree did fall on you you'd be thanking God for that cab saving your life. If that tree had fallen on you, and you were still in the Deere it would've crushed the cab, and very likely would've killed you. Glad you're still around to tell this tale, and eventually laugh at it my friend.

Surprised that you didn’t edit that part out…your going to get beat down in the comments. Try to push after each pass on the next one doesn’t matter how deep the cut give it an exploratory push see how it feels, then if it’s not ready give another pass and so on. It can be hard to tell what is going on inside a tree…could be rot or just weaker than the other trees in the forest. Best wishes!
