Keep one day at a time. It's been 19 years since my husband passed away from a massive heart attack. Miss him every day but he would want me to keep on, which I have. You never get over the pain, it just gets more dull is the only way I have ever been able to explain it. You are doing just fine.

Might I suggest investing in a microphone that you can wear on your chest? We miss a lot of what you say unfortunately. I agree that spraying and burning is a wise choice. Maybe ask the fire department to do it? Because their new men can always use training experience.

I am an old farmer rancher guy and I can tell you that this kind of crap used to really chap my hide. Old farmers and ranchers were and are notorious for not planning ahead for land development of ANY kind. I dug a HUGE pond for a lady who bought 80 acres, and she had no clue that it would take me an entire month just to dig out the old metal and tractor parts and an old tractor that was buried in the area she wanted to pond. REALLY pissed me off. I almost gave up, but she compensated me for it.

It’s coming along great! You are doing an exceptional job. I don’t know what our grandpas were thinking. 🤦🏻‍♀️ You should see all the booby traps my papa left for me, plumbing, electrical, buried trash, etc. etc. etc. The fun never ends. It’s gonna be gorgeous when you’re through! Anxiously awaiting the mulching. Be safe out there. You are loved and appreciated. ❤️

You asked if anyone has any suggestions as to how to find the metal scrap hidden/partially buried in the brush and dirt. I'd say get a metal detector. The type that's on a 4-5 foot pole. Swing it back and forth until you find some metal. It will beep or make some kind of noise. Then start to hand dig until you find the metal. That's my goofy two cents from New Jersey. Good luck and keep swinging.

Devon , if you knew someone with a dozer with a rack on ( forestry rake root rake ) would be ideal for cleaning up by pushing it up into a pile and would make separating much easier, I've had jobs years ago like that what started as a big pine logging turned into a total cleaning job just to get started logging, it was 12.5 acres , I feel your frustration 💯

Wow, Davin, what a fiasco!!! It's a shame that people don't realize, when they throw stuff all over the place, that eventually someone (like you) will eventually have to find all of it, sort it out, and dispose of it. You're a good man for tackling such a diaster. I hope the owner appreciates all you've accomplished.

My dad had his own lumberjack business. We used a tractor to skid the logs out to the logging truck. Then used a winch on his caterpillar to hoist the logs up in the air and on the truck bed. That winch line cable was 1 inch thick steel cable. The cable you keep digging up reminds me exactly of that winch cable line.

I’m glad the day ended better, but it’s still a good night for leftovers or carry out and an adult libation!🍺🍷 Davin, I know about the quiet home. What worked for me was to leave a radio on low so when I came home it wasn’t quiet, then if I got tired of that I would change the station or opt for the TV. Going to bed I would turn a fan on low and aim it accordingly. 😊 🙏🏻

I was just wondering if you could use a huge magnet, like the ones they use in junk yards, to go over the area and get the metal out? If you can't do something like that and you have to get it out by hand- think of it as job security. ;) You do a great job. You handle that thing like a human hand. Venomous snakes have triangular-shaped heads, pupils with slits like a cat's, and thick bodies.

Well at least you are not running into abandoned gas station tanks like a developer did in So Miami while building apt complex on 72nd and 48st in south miami,Miami, in 9the eighties. The previous property had been a rock pit that became a junk yard then covered by fill to disguise it was a filled in junk yard. It was said at one point that two acres was filled with car parts as well as frames and large industrial garbage used to be fill. Then across the street at location I worked at while it was being built a pile driver hit something that bounced the pile out of the ground each time it was hit. On further exploration and a digging project a cement mixer frame was found with springs and shocks were found . They then built a work center for Bell South on this site . After more history was searched this plot was found as another rock pit ,where in the forties or fifties this was a site for an animal zoo,as people would walk down into the pit where wild animals were on display.

Nice job I went through the exact same experience but on only a half acre, it was completely overgrown with heavy brush ground cover trees vines all sorts of junk that became fused and entangled with the vegetation😮 at first I tried to contract a lawn service to do the property cleanup for me and several came out and they all turned it down. Mainly because it was too much work for their business model as most of these companies are just there to maintain something that’s already in decent shape, plus they didn’twant their tools wrecked which I totally get that. But using hand tools I cut everything down myself carefully picked up all of the trash and debris and took several truckloads to the landfill and got it done thankfully
