I speedrun the original game. Needless to say, I was surprised by this games hard mode. I lost 6 times. I think that's a new record for me. I'm thoroughly impressed with the AI racers.

Let's hope that if time trial posts your time on a leaderboard like in other games, the moderate times to filter out hackers with 0.5 seconds laps

Great review CGE. Yeah, it's kind of sad that you have to have an almost constant internet connection for the Pit Stop, Wumpa Coins & CNK characters. As for Uka Uka's voice (I think a TSR Silver was pulled here), I agree could've sounded more like N-Sane's instead of Ratchet & Clank's Skid McMarx. Other than that, this game sounds great & I can't wait to get it!

I can't wait to play this game. Yet... as a Switch owner, I am worried about the pit stop, as the portability is one of the main features of the Switch, playing this game outside from my house (say, because of traveling or trip) will block me from the pit stop, which I want to acces for the CNK characters.

This is honestly the best review for the game. Someone who actually understands the game. And knows how to play it. beenox has done a great job as u said in the video just need to fix up the pit stop and online play and the game will be perfect.

The AI on medium difficulty definitely feels tweaked and more dangerous than on the original to the point they will chain you to never moving. Had a moment where, just as I was about to win Coco Park's Trophy, I got hit by a missile... woo... Then got hit by a beaker just as a enemy drove past and it hit me then finally, after that, got hit by a rolling bomb. Within 10 seconds, I went from first to seventh... Oh and, hard mode is relentless to the point that I've seen AI even beat N.Tropy's times which... considering he can be a pain to defeat on certain maps (Cortex Castle!!!), makes me scared for that challenge. Edit: Oh and, I compare the hard mode enemies as Oxide Ghosts who don't use majority of shortcuts but get to collect wumpa fruits and use items. Not fun...

The lack of microtransactions actually has me more worried about how they're gonna monetise it. The game has multiplayer functionality and free post-launch content so they need to pay for servers and the labour to make the new content and Activision ain't known for the generosity, which makes me wonder where the money's coming from. If we're lucky, it's coming the profits from one of Activision's other games but more likely they're either delaying Wumpa Coin purchases until the reviews are in for the good PR or they're going to monetise a different way, e.g. a battlepass like system.

I hope down the road we do get even more characters via Grand Prix, there are so many they can go with: Koala Kong Rilla Roo N. Brio Nina Cortex Pasadena Von Clutch Also so many skins for Crash were in Tag Team that it makes me wonder about both him getting those & other characters getting similar treatment.

Canadian Guy Eh I personally don't mind Uka Uka's voice in this one, but I do respect your opinions. But you know, this actually reminds of how Uka Uka's deep voice in the original Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped has changed to be slightly higher pitched in the original CTR (both where Clancy Brown voiced Uka Uka, by the way).

The game not only reinvent its formula, evolves it greatly with many content and great dedication to the style. So far the greatest racing game of the year! Also, the inclusion of not only Tawna, also the Trophy Girls and Spyro and Friends is a big score! Second time that Spyro is in the kart series (being the first one in GBA's Crash Nitro Kart port), and this one seals the deal. While the PS4's exclusive track is like a waste by it's low creative showcase, the game itself is perfect. I give this game a 9/10. The free DLC really helps that the game will live for a long time. Great video!

Let me start by saying that I really like this game and Beenox deserves all the praise. (Also, I am playing on switch.) But! The game does not handle the same, and I am saying that as someone who has 100%-ed the game many times during the childhood and again not so long ago. First,the drifting and turning feels slippery, the turns you could do in original game, in nitro fueled are harder to pull off because the car slips away. (N Gin feels like more slippery Tiny) Second, the jumps, it feels like you have to jump earlier than in the original game to achieve more turbo when you land or even not to miss the jump. Third, collision with the terrain, there is a level of bounciness when you hit the terrain, it repels you back. For example in the sewer speedway when you fail taking the shortcut (which in NF is much harder for me to use), your car turns around almost always when being repelled by the wall. Also in SS, when you reach the big enough height in pipes (parts where giant roller is trying to squash you), you hit an invisible barrier and the car stops, and looses velocity, unlike in the OG where you would continue with the same speed. Fourth, maybe I'm wrong here, but I feel sometimes while im drifting that I loose speed for no reason (before pushing L, L1). But also sometimes while doing jumps, it feels like car is propelled forward more than it should be. I don't want to seem like I'm complaining too much, but I have a muscle memory with the OG, that just doesn't work with Nitro Fueled. Other than that, long load times, and no key mapping, the game is awesome and I fully recommend it. p.s. I hope beenox fixes some of the "issues" I mentioned

Played nearly 8 hours straight at midnight. This is CTR as we remember it. I have hard mode beat and currently undefeated online This game is amazing, everything we had all hoped for, and more

Honestly the prices are also a bit high... either they need to increase the amount of Wumpa coins or lower the prices of some things. And yeah make it offline, maybe add some bonus ones to each match if connected

I did a double take when I first heard Uka Uka, I couldn't believe that it was still John DiMaggio until I made it to the credits. That man has an incredible range. I don't even hate the voice at all, given that Clancy Brown's CTR performance was nothing like the original Warped either. It was basically a gruffer version of Mr. Krabs. I'm okay with that voice as well, but it was still strange for me when I played the original Warped and the original CTR back to back and hearing the change. In my opinion, Roo's animations compensate for the new voice. That Hyena sample is fantastic don't get me wrong, but it's possible that the developers are unable to obtain a high-quality recording of that. Papu Papu is perfect, and also way less offensive than the original. Not that it bothered me personally, but 1999 was a different time, so I understand anyone else's modern discomfort with it. Komodo Joe is the favorite boss character, and I love every second of his cutscenes. Harnell's Pinstripe nails the goofy voice in the cutscenes like the original, but I kind of miss the scary threats during the fight that O'Brien provided. It's a reminder that when some actors retire or pass, their loss might never be regained and there's nothing that we can do. Oxide is excellent in every way, I know that the voice is different, but the original VA is dead so nothing can be done. I looked at the Beach skins in the Pit Stop, and Dingodile's getup had me saying, "Oh my God, that's adorable!" That's impressive since I've always found every variation of him to be too freaky looking, making him look cute really takes talent. Husky Crunch is officially my favorite appearance for him that I have yet seen, I love him even more! Many of the animal character's skins give me a new admiration for them, and I can't wait to unlock them all! The game is excellent, but picking hard on the first go was brutal. It took me six hours to get to Oxide and defeat him the first time. Wish me luck with everything else!

Idk if I’m the only one that wanted this, but I was hoping there were customizable cups. Like, the option to add different tracks or more tracks (sorely missed this in CTR & CNK). I love the game so far though, can’t wait until online gets better

I used the new soundtrack for my first run, but now that I've beaten Oxide for the first time, I'll stick with the original soundtrack for the rest of my playthrough. Just remember to turn down the voice and sound effects because the original music is too quiet for some reason. I would recommend half the volume or less for the other settings and full for the music.

I really like uka uka’s voice acting. My problem with the game are hitboxes for crates and especially crystals in crystal challenges which need to be bigger and also i swear that you could press the hop button a bit later than now when trying to get higher jump from the hills and walls.

Is no one going to mention the coin rates in local matches being AWFUL? Also, there's no extra coins rewarded in Adventure/Arcade modes in local play for the following: 1)Difficulty spike (Normal and Hard), 2)Completing Bosses for the first time, 3)CTR Tokens, 4)Relics (extra for Gold and Platinum), 5)Cups/Gem Cups and 6)Skill based. Another issue that needs to be resolved, is to give the Pit Stop these updates: 1) An actual list of items to choose from separately, 2) The Daily Rotation being a page where certain items get discounts or accumulated in bundles as it is (mostly) and 3) Give ways to unlock stuff from the Pit Stop offline (if possible). Lastly, I heard some players we're gaining 5x times the regular coins from participation in a match but ended losing said boost after a while. Any idea whether or not the Boost is used, how long it lasts and accessed as well as include it in some sort of update where the player decides when to use it? These are my concerns so far. Let me know your thoughts since this thread is made for discussion people.

The difficulty setting, say medium, is comparable to the original hard difficulty setting in the original CTR game, and as for the hard mode that's totally needs to be nerfed asap! Its like your facing f1-powered go-karts that are hungry to beat you up & win the whole race. At least the Pit shop shop doesn't require us to use real world currency, and you are right you need constant internet connection to access the pit stop shop & online race mode.

One minor weird thing is the surprising exclusion of Fake Velo, even though all CNK characters were promised. Yeah, he'll probably be added in some grand prix alongside the boss hovercraft and even the Velo mask patched in, but since the first 3 (or 4 from the datamine from BetaM) Grand prixs have already been announced it'll probably be awhile till we see him.

Its called get 10 wumpa fruit missles are a lot better

The only thing I’m a little disappointed with is that they took away the cool looking 2D character icons and just replaced them with like 3D snapshots of all the characters. It’s not super important, but it was nice and very pleasing to the eyes and I feel like beenox could have absolutely knocked that feature out of the ball park. Other than that, I pretty much agree with everything in the video. Can’t wait to play!

Personally I don't have that much of a problem with pit stop but I agree with you. They are a lot of people that can't access internet with their consoles or have super slow internets like me and it's so unfair. Beenox has 2 options: 1: Make the wumpa coins and pit stop available offline 2: Make all of the CNK characters unlockable without wumpa coin and leave the skins, carts and decals to the pit stop

One quirk with the pit stop is online races give SOOO many more coins than single player ones. Up to ten times more. That fact will get lots of players invested into the online modes, but right now the servers crumble at peak hours since it only plays smooth as silk at 1am. Beenox patched something already, but my gameplay last night was flawless despite the many reported issues.

This game looks gorgeous on the Xbox One X in 4k HDR, is really something special.

To be fair this is Activision with talking about and they've showed us time and time again I'm literally just about every single game did they own under their roster they're released the game with no microtransactions and then give it either a couple weeks to a month and then they'll fill it to the brim with microtransactions this game is set up the way it is to be an absolute grind to get any of the Wampa coins to buy any of the items so I guarantee you give it a couple weeks to a couple months you will be able to buy wumpa coins with real life money I promised you that I would be shocked if it doesn't happen this is Activision with talking about did not exactly the most charitable company out there these are the same people who laid off thousands of employees and then the very next day bragged about in a conference call talk about how they making record profits and they're going to figure out more ways to make even more reoccurring money

The VA who's voicing Uka Uka is the same guy whose voicing Crunch. God knows why they couldn't get Steve Blum back.

I like it, however, I have a slight criticism about the shop as well as a few things. Only a set amount is allowed to be put up with a time limit so if you don't get it within that time limit, it's gone until it comes back (I missed the chance to get a CNK character. I don't like the idea that cheats will disable the trophies/achievments nor will they be allowed in adventure mode (so you can kiss bye bye to using infinite Aku Aku masks or Uka Uka masks!) and the only cheat you're allowed to use officially, is to unlock Penta Penguin. You can't unlock N.Tropy via a code either, you HAVE to go through time trial mode beating his ghost in order to unlock him and I find that a bit unfair as half of the time trial times are really bad to beat such as Cortex Castle or Sewer Speedway even if you use Penta Penguin or Coco or Crash etc.

How about the loading? In PS4 at least we have to wait around 20 seconds to start a race, and it's even slower in switch.

I kind of agree with you with the voice over. But I feel like they did that because he appears as a helper for you during the adventure mode and they probably didn’t want it to sound like he was yelling at you angrily every time he was giving you a hint lol. Great review❤️

I tried numerous attempts to beat the ai in hard difficulty on Crash cove, and man they are so aggressively fast, and I only beaten them once lol. :D

I personally wish the Nitro Kart tracks were implemented into their own adventure mode so we had a reason behind them being in the game like the original tracks

The only thing to worry about with the Pit Stop is that there are no Microtransactions NOW when the game is getting reviewed. once the first Grand Prix starts in July there's a good chance Microtransactions could be added in. Activision is notorious for pulling stuff like that. So gamers beware

I wish they would bring in Wager Races, where you would wager your Wompa coins. Though this should only be added if they keep this game micro-transaction free

If there's one thing I can say this review is lacking, it's a breakdown of any kind for new players. After all, this game is going to be picked up by a lot of new fans as well as old ones, especially given how a lot of Nintendo fans, myself included, have only ever played Mario Kart and thus have no experience with the game or how different it is from Mario Kart. And on the topic of the game being called a Mario Kart clone, no matter how much it refines the formula or not, being a clone does not mean the game is bad, which I feel a lot of people take to that mentality when games being called "clones" is brought up. That's just something I felt worthy of bringing up, though. But overall, it's a good review because it's an honest review from a long time fan of the game. Well done, dude.

I just started playing my downloaded copy of the game in ps4. As an expert at the old ps1 classic... I'm extremely concerned that either I've got a bug in my version of the game or it simply does not handle like the original at all. I find the kart quite sluggish in handling and slow to react to my turning input. Once it does turn, it's almost as though the turn isn't sharp and that it takes time for it to grip and start turning. It's almost like I'm driving on ice. I have seen videos of a shortcut compilation for the new game in which players are easily doing the sewer speedway shortcut while I can't even get up halfway to the entrance up there. I used to easily nail it in the old game. Since the handling is so skiddy and less under my control im struggling to get near the edge to jump over to the ledge on the other side (papus pyramid final shortcut) I was so hyped for this game but I'm really worried about this and would appreciate if someone could clarify this or if they are feeling the same

Canadian Guy Eh I HIGHLY agree with you on the issue with Network Connections required for the Pit Stop & Wumpa Coins. Even I highly recommend Beenox to make the Pit Stop content & Wumpa Coins accessible offline without needing a network connection. But my biggest reason is that although it will not happen for a very long time, Network Service Discontinuation for the game's consoles (like with what happened to the Nintendo DS, DSi, & Wii) could be extremely problematic to unlock all the content the players to desire to get. Without the Network Service, all the Pit Stop content will be IMPOSSIBLE to unlock, making things unfair for those who've missed out on all the goodies that this game contains. P.S. Like you, I, too, have a minor nitpick, and that is the Team Bandicoot wheels & their Electron variant. You see, in the Startup Movie (Beenox Crate), Select Screens, & Adventure Mode map, all 4 Team Bandicoot wheels' treads point forward (the same direction). But during races, the right Team Bandicoot wheels' treads are backwards. I consider the latter to be the continuity error, so I wish Beenox could update the Team Bandicoot wheels & their Electron variant, so that during races, all 4 wheels' treads always point forward / the same direction (just like in the Startup Movie, Select Screens, & Adventure Mode Map). I also wish for the Team Oxide wheels & their Electron variant to be altered so that the tread are aligned the same way on both the left & right wheels, instead of the left & right wheels' tread patterns looking like they're aligned differently from each other. But as of now, seeing that the seat of the Team Oxide Kart actually has an asymmetrical digital pattern, I currently do not worry about the Team Oxide wheels as much as the Team Bandicoot wheels.

As you said the game is very very wonderful except the online is very bad I can’t play and when I play the other players moving fitful for me actually I don’t know exactly what the problem ,is it from the services or the internet and I think the online mode should have the cup race to be more fun and enjoyable game and last for long time

The pit stop is pretty much what I expected and feared Hope they improve it make it less grindy and give you options of what you want to buy You are dead on right about the items being wonky and unbalanced I got a aku aku mask in 2nd place lol

OMG the feeling of this game... Today i played splitscreen with my brother, i was first place, he was so close, i kicked his ass with a nitro box, but he had a bomb and opened the secret path. He won with like 10cm and we screamed crazy

I think the tracking "issues" are on purpose, just to give you chance to escape them instead of claiming yourself doomed if you get targeted on. Maybe now it's a bit easier to avoid them and requires more skill if you are the one shooting them (which is simply shooting them at the right time). If it gets fixed, then it was unintentional, but I personally like more this way.

I noticed in the sewer tubes track you cannot jump off the wall to clear the rolling can in the last few corners. The original one would let you slide boost up the wall and jump off to clear it no longer are you able to now. Could you bring it up to beenox?

Characters are meant to be unlocked, not bought. >:(

They should fix the fact that when you get hit by an explosive in this build, the crashing animation doesn't even finish and you can start going forward almost immediately.

Nice review, i'd agree with most of this, but a note on the missile jank; in your footage I noticed you weren't "juiced" so your rockets will always have a bit of give in their homing ability from my experience, but I have had rockets just refuse to pick a target at all even when they were clearly driving several meters in front of me. One other thing too. I bought the Switch version because its where my friends will be to race with me, and i'm not sure if this is just an issue with Switch or all versions of the game, but the load times are... not good! I don't mind them too much, but its release day and i'm just happy to be playing. I predict that if these load times don't see some improvement, i'm going to find myself getting very frustrated by them, especially during cups where i'm bouncing between 4 tracks in quick succession (or not so quick succession, due to the loading screens!).

When you say you need an internet connection for the pit stop do you mean we need playstation plus/xbox live or that we just need to be able to access the internet?

4 issues with the game. Beenox needs to fix the Item Drop RNG. You can get the mask in second and the Warp Orb in second which is OP. Second theres a bug in Tiger Temple where the shortcut doesnt activate when using the shield projectile. Also there is a TON of lag online but might be because everyone is trying to play right now. Overall great game. Oh and on the Switch version LONG LOADING TIMES. These are just the small knit picks me and my friend noticed

I raced split screen with my sister for 3 Cups, surprisingly earned 2220 Wumpa Coins, then tried 1 single online race. I actually got connected to a race, but the server was so broken that everyone was teleporting everywhere. I somehow finished 1st despite the server being completely broken. Pretty sure I didn't earn 2000 Wumpa Coins from that race because that's ridiculous, but I checked the Pit Stop afterwards and had 4220. Tried Online again later to grind out some coins if it was that easy, then couldn't connect. Idk if I experienced a crazy glitch because I don't think anyone is supposed to get over 4000 coins in only 13 races total, some of which I even lost. I'm sure the online servers will work a little better once the game has been out for a few days. For now I'll just play Adventure. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I kinda disagree on your philosophy on the online. I totally understand not many people would be online to play but as a review on the game when it comes out, so should how the servers are. Yeah servers can be bad at launch but the developers are shipping this as a finished product in there eyes, so the review should be done as is. Just my opinion on the matter, but I love this review and criticisms. Hope you have an amazing day!

Your bowling bombs and missiles were out of control because you had zero/few wumpa fruits. Beenox made the wumpa fruit count more relevant, so players would go gaga over collecting fruits. I've tried the battle mode and I'm telling you, I've never prioritized breaking wumpa crates this much. I don't want to waste my triple missiles by using them with less than 7 wumpas, let alone 0.

regarding no players in online multiplayer mode - how can you expect a lot of players before the game even came out, i'm sure that there isn't that many reviewer copies of the game out there so that online multiplayer mode can be populated at any time that you try to play. wait at least a week before reviewing this component of the game, as most players will, probably play adventure mode first to unlock characters , carts and other content

Something weird just happened and I need to spread the word. While playing online, this player was using a yellow and really weird bird as a racer(It's not penta, eyes were different and it didn't have a scarf) and he was behind me, in 2nd place,and the icon that was on 2nd place was papu papu, anyone else seen this?.

Or i am to old or CTR now is a little harder than 20 years ago? :) Anyway CTR is fantastic but multiplayer must be more stable...

It took me a while to actually learn how I can do a power boost, but I think I’m starting to learn and master it.

I tried playing online, I was able to into a room with 8 players, but it was completely bugged. Someone had activated a the clock item, and for some reason (i hope it was an actual bug), it stood through the entire race. Then I received a notification via google news, that at this moment online gaming is being addressed. So hopefully in the next days we can play online.

Is the cnk story mode here as well? If not how do you access the cnk tracks? Just arcade mode?

Highly Agree! There's one issue you're missing, given that you and many others have trouble with. The glitchy shortcuts. Most are good but I'm looking at the Blizzard Bluff one, and Sewer Speedway one

I got the standard edition can I get the star skins from the shop or its exclusive only for oxide edition? And I will never get them?

I loved the game, but some criticism for now is: - Jump boosts feels off sometimes (more feeling in the original! Jumping of ramps doesn't give a consequent feeling all the time, and boosting doesn't trigger controller vibrations as expected). - Collision system is too harsh. I feel like it's easier to get caught up colliding with a wall, and getting a full stop, compared to the original, which was more tolerant. Eg, colliding with corners att 90 degree turns, you just "glided" against the wall with minor speed reduces instead och full halt, and need to reverse etc. - The hop mechanism is a bit off. I still expected rapidly hitting R1 will give me all "requested" jumps, and therefor making the jumps very small off of the ground, allowing me to turn sharply simply by jumping rapidly. This isn't emulated from the original. - The graphic is stunningly good and colorful. At times TOO colorful, when crates, beakers, TNTs and egen wumpa fruits blend in to their surroundings, making the difficult to spot. - Missiles should always be going after an enemy when being juiced up on wumpa! Disappointing to fire juiced up missiles, only to see them go straight, and then into a wall... - Same applies to orb. Juiced up orb should be going after each and every enemy in from of you, even if they all are racing in parallel to each other's, and a little far away. - I've said this before. I hate how modern games in general, soften up the play and feel of a game. This game does a great job of keeping the originality of the 1999 version, but the sound effect is softened up. I WANT the missiles and the orb to sound as "scary" and aggressive and "realistic" as the original. Would he nice to remaster those and include them to be played in the "legacy audio mode"! Specially the orbs sudden and wicked movement should be reintroduced (I notice it's better than how it looked in early, pre-release footage)

Im so hyped, cant wait to play

I think the online mode needs (server selection) instead of just worldwide so people can easily connect to people near them instead, i only able to play just a few games and kept disconnecting from games. Even so, all i see is slideshow karts on field everytime. Have not test it with friends near me yet. So i'm assuming im connecting to player across the globe. And online lobby browser with ping check.
