Be cool to see people react to more of the less popular Crash Test Dummies songs. They have many great ones with very different styles. Such as: Afternoons and Coffee Spoons Swimming In Your Ocean (with music video, it's hilarious) If ya wanna know It's A Shame The Unforgiven Ones I Love your goo There are a lot.

Absolutely magnificent song and the bridge is like a flood of bright light. So awesome! Three scenarios in this song but all about the same person, the writer. The smirk says it all The car accident (s) in his past also gave the name... The birthmark on his back And the Pentecostal Church... Look at the people in the pews "lurching" and etc. the kid doesn't understand, but maybe he really does Getting it out in the air until the bridge and all that light comes down and the freedom that comes with it. So simple yet so brilliant!

Thank you for reacting to my request, cece!! I am grateful, and absolutely love listening to Brad Roberts' voice! The song is about stories of children Brad had known growing up, and what it is like to be isolated because of being different. He leaves the interpretation of what that means for the individual up to the listeners and watchers, and is simply presenting the issue as one that happens, imo! I bet this is 1 of the most unusual songs you have reacted to cece lol it is very different that’s for sure for starters it sounds amazing and keeps you listening what I make of it as in reading bout it it looks like the lyrics based on just ordinary people he grew up with , and telling us how he was curious of them , to put into like a school play in front of the parents seems to me almost like the old freak show they used to have although not sure if I’m supposed to think that lol , but I’ve always liked the song even if it is a bit uncomfortable 👍

When this song was being made, They wanted him to add more words to make it longer but he decided to fill in the blanks by humming, It actually made it into a song so complete that became so popular.

I've always loved the song and the band. Brad Roberts the lead singer, I say he's got an incredible voice. I went to go see the band in Concert a few years ago and I'll be seeing them again next month. You should check out one of their other famous songs "Afternoons and Coffeespoons".

I've read somewhere that there's hidden meaning on the song. First verse its about a boy wake up after decades from coma and that's why he got bright white hair cause he is an old man. The second verse it's about a girl who was suffering phyisical abuse and the "birthmarks" were bruises. And the third verse is about a children who witness a mass suicide with poison on his church. Great reaction!

It is about religion crazy parents physically abusing their children. There was NO ACCIDENT. There were NO "birthmarks". Geez.

The song is actually about overcoming what life throws at you - that's why the kids are taking a bow at the end of telling their stories. The parents of the crash kid can now laugh and cheer at the story, whereas the religious nutcases are very unhappy about showing approval for their kid, seeing that the damage he suffered was at their hands and not due to one of the punches life or chance might have thrown.

This is a good song, but I think the title makes a lot of people think it wasn't meant to be taken serious. Thank you for doing the reaction with the video. I think the video makes the song take on a much deeper and intentional meaning.

So I just watched a lyric vid of this....and read some of the comments below it. To be honest......I still don't know what to make of it all.....don't quite understand how the 3 stories told in it relate to each other......can't find a common thread in a way......the kid's hair turning white and the excuse for it given.......just bizarre. The girl with the birth marks.......one understands why she wouldn't change with them and feels for her etc......the kid and his church experience are more relatable to some of my own experiences ......but all in all I'm still left rather clueless......perhaps the person who requested this should be asked

There have been documented cases of people surviving intense trauma and their hair turns white. I believe it's very rare, but can happen. The gal with birthmarks is straight forward, when I was in junior high in the 80's we had to completely undress to shower after gym class. The teachers would open up the curtain to ensure girls didn't go in still wearing their underwear. It was humiliating. Imagine having a skin issue to boot. I always thought of the last story is about a kid who went to a church were they believe in "Speaking in Tongues." My limited knowledge is they are extremely rigid households and believe the Holy Spirit can enter one's body, causing shaking and uncontrollable movements. The theme of the song is everyone is going through some sort of challenge but the two kids with physical traits felt lucky their embarrassment is due to something out of their control. The last kid has it the worst as his family chooses to make him "a freak"
