Join Graeme as he gets some crazy fishing action on a big river in the UK. He also talks fishing tips to help you catch more fish.
Graeme travels up to Hereford for a shot at trying to catch a River Wye Barbel. This film was shot in 2020 and has been lost in his filing system, only recently to emerge. He talks through a couple of techniques he uses, shows the baits, and gives tips that might just help you get attached to probably England's hardest fighting fish pound for pound. At almost an hour long it's a restful watch, so sit back and join him on his productive day on the river.

The river Wye is a fair trek from your usual digs in Hampshire. I had to look that one up - 4th longest river in the UK. Looks like its worth it for a day. Thank goodness for you. Cheers from South Carolina David

You just keep churning out great fishing videos as always packed with advice, stunning scenery shots and of course decent fish. Yes sad to say rivers have changed, mainly through pollution and water abstraction. I remember when reading my Angling Times in the late 60's - 70's some fascinating articles by Billy Lane (Match Fishing) and best of all (Please Correct if I'm wrong) a bailiff called Tom Williams the Article was called "My River" and I think it was a stretch of the Avon. It wasn't so much about fishing more about looking after the fish stocks and managing the river. I always read his articles more than once they were so well written. If you wrote for the Angling Times I probably read anything you wrote as well. I even read the match fishing results pages as well. Another great post many thanks.

Not sure how far across the river is, bit you have a good arm, throwing those groundbait balls across there in almost the exact same place… I am not a very good judge of fish weight; they look smaller in video or picture and larger irl! I’d say that first barbel was 4-5 lbs, but I’m sure if I was there I’d think it was 8-10! 😜. Another informative and enjoyable video!

Graham The last recorded 50 lb rod-caught salmon from the Wye was taken in 1963 by Donald Parrish and weighed 51 lbs 8oz. These large spring salmon have virtually disappeared over the past two or three decades although the occasional 30lber is caught most years.

Hello TA Fishing my name is Will and I’m watching from the US. I’ve been watching for several years now and enjoy your videos on both channels! One question though. Has fishing in the U.K always been bait heavy and you will then catch fish? It’s so interesting to watch but I don’t believe I’ve ever baited for fish here at home like that. Also it’s probably illegal but maybe it’s the fish your targeting?

Is there a knack to not getting the hook bait tangled with the feeder..thanks
@DylanSmith-oh9om
@DylanSmith-oh9om 2 жыл бұрын
Fish to your reel clip or stop the line with your finger before the feeder hits the water. It stops the feeder in its tracks and propells your hooklength past the feeder and straightens it out which stops everything entering the water in one clump and should cut down on tangles 👍🏼
@connorbell4004
@connorbell4004 2 жыл бұрын
Use a swivel bead or a rubber against your swivel and it acts as miniature boom leaving your hooklength hanging clear of your feeder rather than in contact. Little bit of shrink tube works wonders too.

He said his name was Jack Harrigan. I like using a float when fishing moving meat Graeme; it lets you know where the bait has got to; just rolling and you can't always tell if the meat has stopped and you are just letting out a bow of slack line along the current.

Love the way you explain things,but the handling of the barbell leaves a lot to be desired. I will always be returning a barbell holding it upstream and not letting it leave until it's fully recovered from the exelent fight it's alowd you to have. You should have told inexperienced anglers on this important procedure. Good luck graham.

The man has many years experience and I trust Graeme's decisions and actions upon the welfare of the fish he catches. None of the barbel were doing sidestroke and looked lively when he released them...?
@daz3434
@daz3434 2 жыл бұрын
@@andrewsmith2448 To be perfectly honest when playing any fish in shallow water wade out to net it or the fish fish will scrape itself on the bottom causing it sores and can lead to infection. Also just because they look lively it doesn't mean they are full recovered that's why we lose a few due to not letting them recover properly I am just trying to educate for the pure reason of my passion for the Barbel ;)

Funny you mention otters and the clever people who’ve reintroduced them. I’m in Suffolk and they have put the back in the rivers here, thank god we have huge fish stocks… er oh no we don’t and now they are getting decimated even more. The otters are huge and you can tell they are about as all the fish disappear. Had a pike about 15lb the end of last year and like the chub in the video he had encounter an otter and had half his tail fin bitten off.
