My favorite part of this processor is is that you can have both a correct atmos config setup and an Auro-3D setup with center height and top surround

Does this new Marantz processor sound better than the one its replacing or are you just paying for a new look and few new features?

Digital technology implemented in top-of-the-line, in flagships AV processors (of different mass producers like the ones of the top 3 in the world - Denon, Marantz, Yamaha) has to be like flagships, top-of-the-line smartphone producers (Huawei, Xiaomi, Samsung, Apple, Honor). Because in digital tech, what is flagship component today, will become obsolete in just a year or two... This is why in 2023, I don't want to buy old, obsolete technology at an unjustified cost! Only the newest and best-performing components has to be used and I don't see this in AV10 or in the Denon AVR A1H... In regarding only to the audio side of the Marantz AV10... My level of expectations at 7000 USD (or even more) is that I need one AV unit to sound like a flagship stereo, on ALL channels... BTW... Be honest... ...who is using 15 channels configuration in a living room? Or zones... Zone2, zone 3... Who is willing to deploy kilometers of wires for zone 2 or zone 3 connections in which the end result is to play same music, instead of separate very good quality audio components in those rooms? We are not talking about hearing the same music in corridors or on an elevator of a hotel, because who really wants this? Also, who is really using HEOS?? Especially in this high-end area... Sabre DAC ES 9018 used inside AV10? Why not at least ESS 9039 Pro or AKM4191EQ? Or a dedicated very low noise stereo DAC in dual differential mode per each channel? As a top-of-the-line product in 2023, it should have! And where is HDCD decoding? Audiophile CD format is not dead, SACD is not dead, Dolby Digital is not dead... Even vinyl is not dead, and in 2023 we still not having a decent phono preamplifier for both MM and MC cartridges in a top-of-the-line AV processor... In the audiophile community, we are still spinning HDCD CDs, SACD discs, DVD Audio discs - and for HDCD, we need that decoder. Also...we are in 2023, right? ...where is streaming and decoding native DSD1024 audio files? I want to see ultra-low noise separate power supplies inside of a top of the line AV processor... This is the level of quality that I expect from a Marantz or Denon AV processor flagship, in 2023. RCA connectors are made from gold-plated brass? This is NOT desirable, because of brass low conductivity. It should be made at least from silver or gold-plated OFC copper (again... I'm modest...I'm not mentioning pure silver-made connectors...). I want to see OCC pure copper or OCC pure silver wires used in inside cabling! Talking further...what OP-AMP are used inside? No info here... Also, no info regarding SINAD with EQ in flat mode at max output volume. I want an upscaler even from DVD definition, to 4k and 8k resolution! McIntosh is having same marketing policy... No detailed info in regarding inside components used, and no tech info regarding very important audio performance in their top-of-the-line AV processor... Only high prices! With all due respect for these companies, this is NOT acceptable.

The Yamaha CX-A5200 uses Dual ESS SABRE PRO ES9026PRO Ultra DACs, so Marantz is just being designed by accountants - never good.

I also find extremely useful the PEQ that exists even in entry-level Yamaha receivers. The only AV processor worth mentioning (from Denon) was the AVP A1HD, which was built as pure class A preamp, but still not allowing access to 20Hz to 20 Khz manual EQ. In the classical Denon manner, this was not included from the beginning, but you could buy separately a special version of Audissey (different microphone, different software) through which you could access and modify different and more complex audio settings in the existent Audissey of the AVP A1UD. I liked also the audio restorer in that Denon (for more or less compressed files, which I found less satisfying in Yamaha). In direct mode, still sounded horrible... But build quality-wise, was from another planet, in direct comparison with the Marantz AV10 - which is a shame... @@bilguana11

It’s easy to forget, when dabbing in audio, that most important in home theater is picture - doesn’t make sense to spend 20k on audio if the screen will be underwhelming.

@MalitiaHDOfficial it might be your opinion about it but majority of people, especially regular folks not into audio, will be more impressed with big crisp image and decent audio than top end 9.1.6 setup but small/mediocre screen.

Interesting discussion here. I know a lot of people say that 50% of the experience is auditory, but I don't believe it's that high. Just consider the number of people who watch everything on a large TV with the built-in speakers. Very few people would listen to a home theater on a tiny TV. I think it's more like 80/20 video/audio. I do think audio is important, but humans rely mostly on our visual acuity rather than auditory abilities. There are many animals that have much better hearing capability than we do, (we do have good hearing selectivity), but few in the animal kingdom have better vision than humans.

@Malitia HD large TV's are getting less expensive. Even projectors are getting more affordable to set up if someone wants a 100"+ viewing experience. Audio prices haven't gone down as much and the tech hasn't evolved as quickly IMO. They're also a hassle for most people to setup. Of course there are sound bar solutions, but they compromise a lot of quality from what I've heard.

@@joentell 100% agree. Us, who are into audio, sometimes lose track of a bigger picture (pun intended). We seek minor improvements for serious $$€€££ while often neglecting something that matters most - picture. Big screen, theater like, will always drop people’s jaws more than even the best audio - and it’s comparably much cheaper to achieve also. I’ve spent probably like 25 on audio within a year or so, including loses from buying and selling in pursue of that perfect sound and learning along the way, while running decent 2k 65” oled which is not bad but not jaw dropping. I should’ve directed some of that money towards 83”/85” and that would make bigger impact then spending extra 4k into audio.

3:07 I was the one who commented that the AV10 could do 8 heigh speakers and I got it confused with the Denon A1H presentation on the Masimo Consumer Training You Tube channel, they where saying it could do a 9.4.6 layout or a 7.4.8 it's really confusing how it was written because it implies that you could power 8 heigh channels not have multiple layouts going to the same box.

The AVR/prepro is the brain of the system. Everything goes through it. Doesn't seem like the right place to cheap out. I'm hoping to upgrade to an 8k model with DIRAC. The Marantz might be it

I would agree with @joentell - from and up to certain price category there little difference between them. If you want customizable higher end you need to spend over 10k otherwise everything is very similar down to 2-3k level. Difference is there but often not worth paying 2x more for it.

I am going to question the value of that Marantz at $7000...and you have to pay extra to get Dirac. With the amp they are seriously kidding. You buy a Monolith amp for significantly cheaper that would perform better

So, Marantz lists $9,000 for the AV 10 on their website. Is the $7k you refer to the MAP or "Street Price"? It does have a lot of features, but is it really worth $9k (or even $7k USD) to switch between Atmos and AURO3D formats? Auro seems to be dying on the vine for content.... Center Ch and VOG prob won't be around much longer (my attempt to predict the future could be wrong)...

Ok, I noticed it's $7,000 USD, my mistake... however, my point still remains. Is it worth 7k to have the extra outputs to keep the option of 'extra' speakers like VOG or Center Height? Atmos doesn't use them. If the content supports this, then maybe "yes" but how many movies have an Auro 3D version soundtrack (or will in the future)??
@whitecrowuk575
@whitecrowuk575 Жыл бұрын
@@off_key88 good thinking but you need to follow further. It’s worth for people who want to have both setups available and switch between. Otherwise I would think 7.(2).4 is sufficient for majority - more over majority of movies are mixed into 7.1.4. Unless you have a fancy processor that will mix into additional channels well - they add little in very specific scenarios - like multiple rows of seats or big distance to fronts etc.
