In this episode of Building my Dream Shop, I tackle some crazy roof details. Why did I do this to myself? I truly made this roof way harder than it should have been or needed to be. Think all this work was worth it? Let me know in the comments down below.

I have always said if it isn’t hard it’s not worth doing it has made me over the years. Miss a lot of sleep and questioned whether I was a mental nut job😂 but the things that are hard to do. I pull in my driveway every day and look at them and just smile. Glad I did it. I think you’re the same way.

As an Architect who also has a builders licence in Australia - I salute you! When you started, all these details you are having to deal with now were at the front of my mind in how you would achieve them and also, from the beginning a thought of dread for when you got to this step, I knew it would be full on! Keep it up, loving this series!

Passload has been around forever! I’m 58 in April, and my dad used the on the job since the early 70’s. We used the framing nailers and ram shots to fasten the bottom plates! They’ve become less popular in Oklahoma over the decades though!

Yellowjackets will love those niches no matter how well they are weather sealed. But if you spray the surfaces with a residual like Bifenthrin every spring that should keep them away.

Looking good, and the details are always meticulous as always! The paslode coil nailer has been asked for for 20 years. Having installed miles of fence pickets with 400 ft of airhose, this will be a welcome change for many. It's a good thing this is a ss roof ,and only will be done once. If shingles were used and standard siding needing paint every 20 yrs would be high $ in maintenance . Am guessing the dormer/gables have added a minimum of 30% labor and 40% in material costs. This is where a modern shed dormer shines. No valley ,and can be added onto a standard A-frame...without changing the trusses below. Either way it looks great!

I think you might regret the smart siding on the facia up against the end of the dormers so close to the valley. It looks great, but the way those areas collect moisture will most likely reach the back of the siding. Also, some through the roof on the back side of that flashing cap would help it stick.

If the customer really wants it, is willing to pay for it, and knows that it has the potential to cause more problems, and cost down stream. Sure do it. On the other hand it doesn’t hurt to look out for your customer in the long run and steer them clear of doing things better.

Being kind of a perfectionist, i hated doing trim work-i would rather put up the whole damn building myself if someone else did trim. Mainly because i stressed myself way out every single time cuz it seemed like i was never happy with the result. You couldnt see it from the ground, and people would tell me all the time how great it looked. But nooooo, i knew- i knew it was there and it bothered the hell out of me. Anyway, i saw your roof layout and am ecstatic that i dont have to trim that out 🤣. I figured it was gonna be a pain in the rump, but also knew it would look cool when done right, and kyle (&greg) was the guy to do it. Very, very nice job- it's gonna be a one of a one if a kind showpiece when finished. I'm gonna be a little disappointed when its finished, one of my favorite rr builds, but I'm sooooo looking forward to see the end result. As always, another great vid, i really enjoy watching the effort you guys put into your vids and builds.
