I remember playing this for a whole weekend with friends on dream cast and we finally left the house to get burgers at fuddruckers and heard the "hey hey hey!" Guy calling us from the arcade. It was pretty hilarious and we ended up surrending all our quarters to the arcade version.

The only thing ever missing from Crazy Taxi was a split screen multiplayer mode, one of the best features in the game that ripped it off Simpsons: Road Rage (which I got for Christmas one year :D)

I'm probably the only person who played Simpsons Road Rage after getting it for Christmas in 2002. Then, I played the heck out of Road Rage, beating it twice as well as all the missions, until 2015, where I went to an arcade and played Crazy Taxi for the first time, initially thinking it as a ripoff of Road Rage until I looked it up.

Almost everything about this game was perfect: the mechanics, the characters, the soundtrack, all of it. As far as non-facing driving sims for the arcade go, I'd say only 18 Wheeler rivaled Crazy Taxi. Also: horns out for early Offspring! \m/

Oh hell yes, the reason I bought a Dreamcast! A game that would shape my musical tastes and steal so many hours of my teenage life. I remember once playing the Original city in Arcade mode for over an hour, to the point where I'd picked up so many people, I was running out of passengers. Amazing times!

My experience with Crazy Taxi was limited to the Gamecube version, and even though I was never good at it, it always stood out to me as a unique title with the fact that it felt like a retro arcade game while looking and playing like a newer game, and I think I really liked it for that. It's certainly a memorable franchise, that's for sure.

Great video Daniel! I've got memories of walking out of Walmart and hearing this game screaming "HEY HEY HEY" with The Offspring's song afterwards "YAH YAH YAH YAH YAHHh!" The game was at the soda machine area with some other games and claw machines. It was the sit-down arcade version of Crazy Taxi. Pretty sure it was the first place I've ever played it. I believe they also had Hydro Thunder, another awesome arcade game I'm sure everyone remembers fondly of. Maybe take us back with a video on that arcade game Daniel? Eh? Merry Christmas!

I played this game so much! I loved actually seeing how good I got just from improving my score and I remember figuring out the order to pick up the passengers that worked best for me. The first time I was able to "loop" that first map was such a revalation and I remember I would have long play sessions after I got good at it, and I just kept getting jazzed up to play more after I stumbled onto the "crazy" license (I had no idea it existed and was so excited when I heard the guy say it). I never understood why people liked the simpsons game or any other knockoffs, because those games didnt seem to understand the technique and the map design that made Crazy Taxi so much deeper! I remember I went to a relatives house and kids were playing it, but they had no idea how to do any of the techniques. They would play it on normal mode, so when it came my turn I just played it on normal as well. I was in the zone and I think I got a S that time thinking the kids would get excited and want to know how I did it... but instead the dad came in and said, okay next time you just play it for 5 minutes! Haha. Oh man, I love this game to death...

I only ever played the GCN version of the original (one of the post-Dreamcast port that did retain all the original content save for the product placement, if I recall) before a time where I just lost my taste for racers for a long while, though i'll pick both it and the other two games up again eventually. Now all I remember is just a little fun fact for fans of Toku out there. Gus was voiced by Chris Peppler, who had a few stints with Sega games in the 90s. He eventually went on to voice the Knight Rider homage Krim "Belt-san" Steinbelt in Kamen Rider Drive. The guy can't get away from cars and racing, it seems.

I loved Crazy Taxi back in the day, played it a lot at uni until the cabinet got replaced by 18 Wheeler (which I also adore, possibly even more than Crazy Taxi if I'm honest). I never knew there was a third one for the Xbox, I'll have to pick that up! I have to say I think you may be a little harsh on the PS2 port of the original. Yes it's not as gorgeous as the Dreamcast version (which I have to pick up once my Dreamcast gets fixed) but it's still a really, really good game that I keep coming back to.

This video reminded me that I have Fare Wars on PSP too. Still got the original on DC but must have sold Crazy Taxi 2 at some point. Always loved this series. I remember trying to play the arcade version in London once thinking my DC skills would transfer over but man that's a whole different experience with the steering wheel and pedals. I really need to get some decent cables for my DC so I can play Crazy Taxi again.

Harley-Davidson & LA Riders was and is my game! It's also non-linear in that each time you play the game, you get a different route. Some people like the game, and some hate it -- I'm one of the few long-time fans since I laid my eyes on the machine in Dave & Buster's years ago. Sure, Crazy Taxi was fun picking up people around, but driving a HOG in the city of L.A. was also brilliant.

That Offspring song is a jam. That was also their last fully good record, if you ask me. (Also, man, nobody remembers the Bad Religion as much, but those songs are also GREAT.)

Funny you posted this the day before Christmas, I was just looking up the game two weeks ago and bought a copy of the third game on the 27th before I saw this video. What, has the series suddenly taken a upswing in popularity again? I've been thinking it would be amazing if a virtual reality version is made.

I played the sequel on the Dreamcast, sadly my Dreamcast was stolen over 12 years ago by a previous neighbour who likely sold it for drugs. I've played the first one on the 360 and X-Box One, thanks to backwards compatibility. I keep hoping that Crazy Taxi 2 might get a re-release on newer consoles or a compilation pack of the three original games with refinements and any needed improvements. Quite enjoyed what I've played of the two games I got to play out of the series.

You didn't mention how each character drives differently and about the bike. With the psp version you can still play your own MP3's while playing but they still changed the locations.

I never got a chance to master the game in the arcade because it was too popular. But when the DC came I could play as long as I want.I love the first C.T. by far.

Crazy Taxi is my second obsessed Dreamcast game (third is a tie with NFL 2K and NFL 2K1 and first is Sonic Adventure) it's one of them games that it's fun and not taking seriously like it's a JRPG game.

I wonder, not a request but, will you ever cover the kings field series? not many people talk about those, and altho' i've played some of them, i'd love to hear all about it!

Crazy taxi was the 3rd game I ever bought for the Dreamcast #1 = Sonic Adventure #2 = Tony Hawk. I played the BEJESUS out of it, and it's most likely the reason I love the offspring as much as I do. I think when I get home, I'm gonna think about how it all just happens to get way down the line and how really... this is all I want.... YAH-YAH-YAH-YAH-YAH!!!!!

Pretty strange that Sega didnt hired Sumo Digital again after the 2 Sonic and Sega All Star Racing games to do a Crazy Taxy 4, i mean they did 2 Outrun games that were pretty damn amazing (Outrun 2006 being my most favorite of them specially its arcade counterpart dear god that game blew my fucking mind when i play it) it could be only natural being those All Star Racing games as good as they are to make them to do a Crazy Taxi 4, but oh well sometimes things doesnt go as you might think.
