That’s terrible. What is so wrong with the system?

@@allisonjames2923 If we only knew the answer to that question, we would know what to fix. Some say it’s the caseload and the fact that there aren’t enough workers to do the job properly. Others say is the lack of work ethic and oversight of those doing the job. And still others say it’s the bureaucracy itself that ties the hands of those working within the system. I personally think it’s a combination of all of the above. And it’s inexcusable. The one place no society should ever fail is with the protection of its children.

I'm in Nebraska and a friend of mine fosters. She says the same thing here We are an extremely small tight knit community and my friend was the best possible placement for some siblings who lived here and were put in her care...she's an amazing mom and a Gulf War Vet, 100% integrity, gentile but firm discipline, she also worked for the school and was one of a small handful I would trust with my disabled daughter. I can't say enough about her. Anyway She was told the same thing about making waves. She wasn't getting reports and authorizations she needed, she was reporting the parents for failures and was told to "stop being so picky". These three were eventually pulled from her care because she was "too much", they were separated and sent to different cities. One is a friend of my son and has since attempted suicide 3 times because of the care he's recieving, one was abused and malnourished in a "suitable home"and one was returned to the parents who never got off drugs. I have 3 friends who all worked for CPS and all three quit and went to private companies because of how awful the system is run. It's a systemic problem and it's not a single state. It makes me sick.

@@HellenaHanbasquet What a horrible set of circumstances. That breaks my heart. The one social worker I worked with on the foster parent side that I actually respected for being amazing at her job and supportive of our efforts just called me last month to say goodbye because she quit. It made me so sad because she was literally the only person I could count on who actually did her job really well. The good ones usually burn out. Who wouldn’t with what they see going on around them on a daily basis. There have been so many instances of CPS/CFS not doing their job which has resulted in a child’s death that I am surprised the entire system isn’t completely overhauled and taken over by the federal government. Not that the fed is much better. Multiple workers here in California faced criminal charges for their reckless disregard for the safety of a child in their care when his parents beat him to death him after he was returned to them with no follow through by the agency and multiple calls from concerned neighbors and teachers were ignored. I don’t know why people get into this line of work if they don’t want to do what’s necessary to do the job. Or why the state doesn’t provide more funding when this is so much more important than so many other things. A society that doesn’t protect its children is doomed.

What’s wrong? It’s impossible for the state to do what God designed the family to do. In addition, dysfunctional parents make it hard for reunification. The workers are low paid & have to deal with a lot of cases. That said, in my experience, no one wants to “make waves”, they lie to kids, and unless someone pressures DCS, GALs, the lawyers & judges to take action, everything “floats along”. It’s maddening.

The worst thing I've seen since all this went online was Concho Valley. The CPS worker directed the foster family who was hoping to adopt to be in charge of coordinating reunification therapy (including picking the therapist) with the biological father who was late-added to the case. This was a young man with a stable job, a home, a car & license, no substance or violence issues, and who wanted custody of his son. Oh, and the reason the father was late-added? First, his ex-partner hid the pregnancy and child from him until the CPS termination case. She never actually told him, but she did give his name and information so he could be served. Then the CPS worker *averred that he had been served, though she had not done so.* For multiple hearings, it was believed he had merely been non-responsive to the summons. For the life of me, I can't remember how he ultimately found out. It may have been that he was appointed an attorney, even though he wasn't present, and the attorney reached out. I think, if he wanted to sue, he'd have textbook grounds to knock down qualified immunity. I think it's fair to say that CPS worker violated a clearly established right of which a reasonable person would have known -- the right to be served, and not have the worker lie and say she'd served you, when she hadn't. (She actually got a 5th amendment warning in her final day of testimony, when Father's attorney was questioning her in this area.)

Haha. CPS in Ohio most definitely isn't like that anymore😂 They are the most incompetent people I've ever seen. They are removing kids to keep them in the downtown building because they have no placements and the kids are severely neglected, placed into worse homes than what they were removed from. Cps can't keep an employee longer than a couple months because they are so ass backwards and disorganized and corrupt. It's disgusting.

This is the juvenile detention docket for the 323 district court. Judge Porter is one of the associate judges. I watch these detention dockets every day. Judge Kim (the main judge) is fantastic, too. And Lateph is the child's lawyer, Lateph Adeniji (not sure how it's spelled).

My brother is the head of CPS over a large section of my state (Virginia) and I can tell you he would NEVER do this or put up with it out of his social workers! There are some really good ones but ALOT of bad ones.......but

I do that just for my work meetings. I can’t imagine acting the way they did if it was for court!

My son has therapy 2 times a month and we set up everything an hour ahead. Just incase the computer wants to update or do something crazy. We log in atleast 25 minutes ahead and wait until we are let in. My 7 year old can log into zoom and his classes himself. This is just crazy to me.

True. Usually, one wouldn't want to be in court period (nothing against government employees, but is just too much stress imho even for civil matters where you won't get fined or go to jail).

The biggest fuck up I’ve ever had with zoom is forgetting to take my last name out of an instance where I would not have wanted it displayed and I’m not all that smart. It’s a pretty easy program

I like him a lot as well. I just don’t do stuff involving children and that is his call. I handled a juvenile call as a young prosecutor and it takes an emotional toll.

CPS can sing the "Lack of Funding Blues" all they want, but my nearly 10-year-old desktop and 7-year-old laptop function on ZOOM fairly well, and I would be willing to wager serious money that CPS is using newer devices than mine.

@@moosecat I'll take that wager. I know that in my state when Windows 7 was the newest version, CPS was running on Windows 95. It was easy to out-type the computer's capability to put the letters on the screen because the system was so slow.

They could have rehearsed and researched how to do all the things in zoom beforehand. And they should know their phone well enough to figure out how to keep from muting your phone. Usually, you just have to turn the volume up. In this case, the people were CPS which means they certainly knew how to work the technology because no doubt they hold meetings on a daily basis.

@@RyanBlackhawke Yeah I agree in this case with a CPS worker who should know. But most times these issues happen with just some random defendant who has probably never had to use Zoom or anything similar before, and they're already nervous about being in court.

@@RyanBlackhawke For people who aren't familiar with technology it can be pretty daunting trying to get round problems. There aren't any easy to read guides to figuring out why things don't work, and solutions like "we're in the wrong meeting" aren't always obvious.

I work in IT, so it’s not completely unheard of for an entire office worth of PCs to be down. I’m going to make a HUGE assumption here - based on there being only two devices, I’m guessing these devices ARE NOT domain joined (unless the govt has stepped up to using Azure, which I doubt for cost and security reasons). This would make their most likely failure the internet. IDK what kind of providers they have in that area, but a whole block or a single office could be down. Unless they’re paying for a business connection (much more expensive), then their internet is as likely to die as your home internet is. Just for some perspective. However, they could’ve joined by phone or called, etc. instead of dragging on for 90 minutes. Totally intentional.
