Cream - Badge live at Royal Albert Hall, London.
May 2, 3, 5, 6. 1080p
7 of 22
In May of 2005 Cream returned to London's Royal Albert Hall-to the same stage where they had completed what was thought to be their final performance in 1968. It was one of the most eagerly anticipated, hard-to-get tickets in rock history. With the exception of a brief reunion set at their 1993 induction into the Rock and roll Hall of Fame, Cream had not played together in nearly four decades. This DVD documents Cream's momentous London shows. Performances from each of the four nights are featured and much more. Also included are alternate performances and interviews with Ginger Baker, Jack Bruce, and Eric Clapton. Cream formed in 1966 and disbanded in 1968. The band were a prolific and thrilling live act and toured incessantly in their short but remarkable history.

Cream is three incredible musicians, THREE. I listened to this song and a flood of emotions swept over me and a tear formed in my eye, then I realised that if it had that effect on me, what must it have felt like for them? Thank you Cream for showing the music world exactly how it's done, regardless of how many years have come and gone. Timeless brilliance.

Just remember when it comes to tone and soloing, clapton made it what it is, he set the bar. When it comes to drums, Baker had no one to learn from, he set the standard for rock. When it comes to vocals and bass for rock, everyone had to learn from JB. The world had no idea what a true power trio could do until they actually got together. A true force of nature in music that can give a grown man goosebumps.

I've seen Clapton play Badge a hundred times, probably my favorite Cream tune. Without Jack on bass its never the same. Clapton gets a lot of credit for Cream and he deserves a lot, but without Jack there would be no Cream. To me Jack is the real star of Cream. And I have to add, fucking Ginger is playing incredibly well in at this show. What a musical drummer.

+David Evans Jack was such a fantastic bass player. In my opinion, Cream was the sum of of the whole. Clapton gets most of the credit, but Cream only existed because of all three members of the band. Each member was at the pinnacle of their craft. They were lighting in a bottle. I was far too young young when Cream existed during those two brief years, but wow they were great!!!!

I'm 60 years old, and had the immense pleasure of seeing these guys the first time around. I'm also a guitar player who's been through rehab many times, so I'm also a huge Clapton fan (no sarcasm intended). But I really don't think people give enough credit to Jack Bruce, and his contributions to Cream. He and Brown wrote almost every song Cream ever did. And just listen to his bass line in this tune. It carries the whole song until Eric comes in with his solo. Eric is tops, and I had the pleasure of hearing him doing this song live at his first ever Crossroads Guitar Festival in Dallas in 2004.

I can do a passable rendition on guitar and the main bass line is very pleasing to play. But there is still plenty of room for these 3 masters to take it to a different orbit. Guitar, bass, drums trios are the best and, Cream came 1st. RIP and thanks Jack and Ginger.

This song started its life without a proper title. Since there was just a bit of sheet music, George Harrison had scribbled “bridge' to indicate where the bridge of the song would begin. Eric Clapton couldn’t read George’s handwriting, and thought it said "Badge.” The title stuck. Although it was a Cream song, the songwriting credits list both Eric Clapton and George Harrison. Due to contractual reasons however, George Harrison is credited under the psuedonym “L'Angelo Misterioso” by @TheProfSSS

How can three be such a timeless mystery? Cream added something to music that wasn't there before.

On my Top Ten list of best albums of the '60s, "Wheels of Fire," along with the Beatles, Hendrix, Doors and Jefferson Airplane. Listen to that "Crown of Creation" album sometime. I've done extensive research on Ginger and I can definitively say he lived for one thing: drumming. He fought with just about everybody but his dad was the same way. When he got behind those drums he was in a different reality. He ruled in that world. I saw them play at the Whiskey in '67. All eyes were focused on Ginger. All 3 of them were incredibly talented artists but Ginger was in a separate category.
