I am blessed by a God we don't know of to have a Dad who was born and raised in San Fransisco in 1952. He single handedly taught me about the history of music because of Cream. That he saw live at Fillmore West.

I just gotta say... As a kid. when I heard this song from LIVE CREAM Vol 1...I thought it was their best LIVE blues...Straight to the point. By far it is Clapton'e best slow blues ever...to ME. These guys were really THAT good! In 67-68, the only thing better was Hendrix, which was down to him...not his band. Mitch Mitchell was great but Noel Redding was not up to the job...to ME. Jack was the best bass player going, Jack and Ginger took Claptopn to a place he never could get to again..despite his success. The clarity of his blues phrasing on that song is incredible, It is not virtuosic and a lot of it is Freddie and Albert King licks but in that "British whiteboy blues" genre it is top of the top, What a band...and Clapton was the weakest member!

This version of Steppin,' Out always sounded like to me that it was the real last time he would play this spontaneously and straight from the heart. Everything after that night to my ears never quite seemed to be as raw and intuitive. But here, he just flies. So beautiful.
