Every Bonsai species will have it's own specific water needs, it all depends on what type you have. For example, I have two Ficus Ginseng trees that require watering whenever the soil starts to dry. They also appreciate a little misting with a spray bottle to help with humidity (this actually causes roots to grow from the branches down into the soil, causing an epic "vine" sort of look.) One of them is larger and older than the other so I call them The Bonsai Brothers haha!! However, I also own a species of Jade Plant (Crassula Ovata I think it's actually called) that I propagated from a single leaf! I've had her for years now and she's looking very much like a chunky forest now and towers over all my other plants. But my Jade is a succulent species so she doesn't require nearly as much water as the Bonsai Brothers do, she holds a lot of water in her fleshy leaves. So obviously I water her a lot less frequently. But I give all my plants a nice deep soak when I do water them. My general routine for all my houseplants typically falls into a watering once every two weeks in the winter and once a week in the Spring/Summer (I'm based in the U.K.) But my general rule of thumb as to IF they need some water is to check their soil. One of the easiest ways to check if they need watering is to stick my finger into the soil. This gives me a clear indication of the soil moisture content than simply looking at the surface. I usually reach 2-3in into the soil and feel how moist or dry the soil is. But never, NEVER, EVER, leave your plants standing in a saucer/pot of water after they've had a drink. This can cause root rot that is a deadly killer to most plants if not detected and treated fast enough. I always make sure my plants have been well drained before I place them back into their decorative pots, and always make sure your pots have decent drainage holes. Mine are all potted into a plastic planter, and then the plastic planter itself is placed into a more decorative clay or ceramic pot. This makes it far easier for me to give them a good watering also as I just remove them from the decorative ones and shower them down. I also find this handy to help check their roots also rather than trying to lift a huge ass clay thing above my head. A few years back, I propagated another Jade plant from a leaf my Jade forest had dropped for my partner and his little buddy is a good 25cm tall now! He's planted into a more "traditional" Bonsai tray pot with a matching drainage tray underneath, so after a good water my fella just removes the tray from underneath his plants and gets rid of any excess water before placing it back. Some Bonsai species are more demanding than others in the care department, and may require a more experienced enthusiast than other species as my fella unfortunately found out when he bought his first Bonsai tree. But Jade plants (Crassula Ovata) are really easy to take care of and are great for beginners!! Same as the Ficus Ginseng. The Jade in particular is very low maintenance and was my very first houseplant. But as with most plants my knowledge knows of, they're far more forgiving over a little draughtt when under watered than they are if they are over watered. I've watched some KZfaq clips from God Tier Bonsai growers that have trees so big and beautiful, and so old. Some of them being passed down throughout generations, it's actually so crazy in the most beautiful way possible. Sorry for the essay of a comment, but I hope this helps you on your Bonsai journey!! I water mine every day in the growing months from March - October here in south texas

I water mine really well and repot a day or two after that. Then I only wait 3-5 days to water after repot depending on environment. These seem to need more water that your average succulent

You really have to experiment how much water is good for your climate and soil. I water frequently because my soil is very rocky and drains quickly. Plus it's very hot and humid here so the trees thrive.

i did an experiment. i bought 2 big jade plants and i placed one outside in the humidity and heat( around 40-50C crazy hot), and the other one i placed it inside under the cool AC. the one outside grew 3 times bigger than the other one!!! crazy!! its super hot outside in kuwait and my jade is living !! just give them enough water and if its too much, the drainage hole will fix the problem👍🏼

@@cherrycotapie yess mine grew so much when i put it outside i live in india. i use cocopeat instead of soil so that drains well

I used to sell quite a bit until I lost a lot of trees during our historic freeze earlier this year. Hopefully in another two years I'll have enough trees to start selling again.
