Creating a stop track in Ableton Live

One of the biggest benefits of running tracks in Arrangement View is the ability to create seamless transitions between songs. But what do you do if you want to stop between songs? Stop pressing spacebar, and use a “stop track” instead!
In this tutorial, Ableton Live Certified Trainer Will Doggett shows you how to use the IAC Driver to create a stop track so that Live automatically stops wherever your clip is placed. Plus-you’ll learn how to stop your song with your MIDI controller-while using a stop clip!

First of all congratulations for the video. Secondly, I use Superior Drummer 3 plugin, when it gets to midi stop my plugin also stops for milliseconds. How can this not happen? Sorry for my English, I'm from Brazil.

Question: What if the MIDI mapping from my controller isn't a note but its a CC? Can I insert that CC into the midi clip?

I am also trying to use both the SPD-SX with the stop parameter mapped as well as this, and it seems a lot of people have had the same issue. I assume my issue is likely the same (incorrect channel), but how do I tell which MIDI channel my SPD-SX is on if I don't have a MIDI track set up for it (or do I need to set a track up for it/select a MIDI channel somewhere as well)? Thanks!

Does anyone know if STOP can be midi mapped to a foot controller to STOP at the end of a bar? Lets say you want to STOP at bar 45 you hit the STOP button anywhere in bar 44 and it plays until the end of that and STOPs at beat 1 of bar 45? In the video above the programmed midi note command STOPs at the end of a bar but when Will hits the STOP button on the foot controller it STOPs at a non-musical time frame.

I can't get the stop track to work for some reason. I'm pretty sure I set up the IAC driver correctly. I'm outputting the MIDI track to IAC Drive Bus 1, but when I try to MIDI learn the stop command and map it to the note I placed in the session, it just glosses right over it for some reason and doesn't take the mapping. Any ideas?

Is there a way to say Stop an go to the next Locator? so i only have to press play if I want to go on after the stop.

My problem is my controller is putting a CC 96 Medi message into Ableton, and I am not able to match that up to the C -2 Midi note or any midi note on the keyboard. So I either can use the automatic stops and not a stop button on a controller or vice versa.

Will, another question for you. As a worship pastor, and both an acoustic and electronic musician and producer, in a small church that is open-minded and supportive of experimental music and arts, I've had the opportunity to introduce electronic influences in worship. But I haven't been able to find a community of others doing similar things. I was wondering if you have much experience or interest in using Ableton Live alongside electronic music devices (dj controllers, drum machines, etc) syncing them with Ableton Link, with controllers for Ableton Live (Push 2, Launchpads, etc.) and/or with finger drumming (with the MidiFighter 3D, MPCs or Maschine) or other devices (Touch, Midi Fighter Twister, etc.). Would love to have a conversation with you about these types of things or to be pointed to online communities or individuals to network or share resources and knowledge. Appreciate what you are doing and how God is using your gifts and interests for the greater community!

I see this video is from 2019, ..was this ableton live 10 being used in the video? Reason asking, I use 10, and I can get it to work fine just as you teach to stop with my midi controller pedal (loopster), OR I can get it to work fine and stop with a midi stop set as automatic on the screen, BUT I CAN NOT GET IT TO DO BOTH AT THE SAME TIME , once I make a change to sinc a same midi assignment number, it knock one out. I use a loopster and the stop button sends a G8 midi signal, so yes, I picked up on that part to change on the screen to what the loopster assigns. ........anything real common I may be doing wrong?

It works the same no matter what version you use. Make sure the MIDI note you create is the same as your controller. You’re likely missing the MIDI channel. Map your controller, see what channel/note it’s sending and create the same thing with your clip.

@@fromstudiotostage Yes, it was the MIDI CHANNEL, I had it missed by a wrong midi channel, ......before your video in past, I had channel 5 set up as was using it as an onscreen auto stop (but with no looptimus stop button) , but as I was MIDI'ing my Looptimus stop button in, I changed to channel 1 and it works just like you said. This is BEAUTIFUL !!!!! LOVE IT !!!!! Thanks for making this video and for the reply :)

Quite an advanced piece of software here, yet they plumb forgot to make (something extremely basic and fundamental) an instant automatic 'stop at end of track' function. It should stop wherever we tell it to stop, without a complicated workaround. Like, at the end of the loop marker, if we choose. We can set a segment to loop, but it won't recognize that as an ending point? I am losing my mind here as the playhead mindlessly continues indefinitely without this. And then getting this IAC driver to work - another few hours tinkering with the settings... Thanks for this tip!!!

Your other vid on the IAC driver was important too - getting those checkboxes right for the track and remote in/out - if not for your video I would have never got it working right!! What I'd really like (an Ableton wish list) is to be able to tell it to simply stop at the end of my loop, and it would also be great to be able to tell it how many loops to make, before stopping (or) moving on to the next part. I'm sure there are methods for accomplishing this but I'm still learning!

I used to have it where after the multitrack was finished Abelton would stop at the end of the track. Now it keeps playing afterwards. I didn't have to add these things, now it isn't working, PLEASE HELP! It shouldn't be this hard to do simple things and having to search for solutions through layers and layers of things I am not looking for lol

I just had my tracks automatically doing it without having to add a midi clip telling Ableton to stop the clip. Something got messed up, Is there a simple option for toggling the transporter to stop playing after the .wav file has ended without having to create midi note triggers?

It's not a native feature in live, but it's possible you had ClyphX installed of a utility installed

This isn’t dependent on your MIDI controller, so you’ve got something incorrect about the IAC setup

@@fromstudiotostage It works just like your video until I go back and try to do both. I got the stop track to work by itself. Got the Spdsx to work by itself, but when I do them together and move the stop Midi clip to match it blows right by the stop track.
