What a lovely little comment. I know that my now adult daughter and I used to enjoy watching Pretty in Pink together. She loved Molly Ringwald as much as I did. It is nice to have those mother daughter things that you share. I know we would have shared Stephanie and the rest of the La Landa's if she had of been younger and still living at home. LOL. All the best to you and your daughter from a little town on the sea, St Helens in Tasmania.

The Swiss put newspapers around the stocks after the cardoons are bunched together. That is how you shroud them so they go white. This is usually done in fall. Its a Christmas tradition to bake them in a gratin with Gruyere cheese. They are delicious! Look up the swiss way to prepare them, you have trim off the pointy bits. 😊

As an Aussie I can tell you pavlova is meant to be rustic. Even restaurants do them rustic. No one does smooth. It gives the lumpy parts a chance to crisp up or even go brown if you hold a flame over it

Allergic reactions to the recent flower delivery; headache, etc? The culprit is the tall spikey, yellow bloom plant commonly called Scotch broom or any variation of broom in English-speaking countries. Its species name is: Cytisus scoparius, and is native to Europe and Asia. It is an invasive plant here in the US and the bane of Spring allergy season.

I have been making pavlova for over 53 years and those are not pavlovas - they are meringue bird's nests. Delicious but different! Pavlova is large & is usually irregular, but it has a crispy exterior and when cut, a beautiful marshmallow centre, 4-6 inches high, and usually topped with whipped cream and seasonal fruit. A totally different experience! Kiwi fruit, strawberries and other berries are all favourites. A good formula for a pavlova is to weigh your ROOM temp egg white (don't compromise the eggs being room temp - it's important) and then beat it until thick & dry and add double the weight (of the egg white) in sugar and a little cream of tartar. Beat only until the sugar is well absorbed into the whites. Dampen a sheet of oven paper and pile the mixture into a round and create a platform on top for the whipped cream to eventually be spread. Cook in a 350F oven for about 15 minutes, then turn the oven off and leave the pavlova to dry out for several hours. After the first hour, crack the oven door but don't open it wide. I have probably made 100's of pavlovas using this method, without failure. We used to own a small hotel and it was the Wednesday night dessert and a HUGE, legendary favourite. If you are cooking things that require only an egg yolk, save your whites in the fridge and use them to make your pavlova. Our pavlovas were "freebies" because of saving the egg white from breakfast when people asked for two eggs. Our farm eggs were so huge, that saving the white from one egg resulted in enough for the Wednesday night pav! We usually used about 16+ oz of egg white to make a huge pavlova that served 15-20 people. Enjoy!

I will try to put something up, but, I was bending over and painting the kitchen garden veranda and back terrace porch FOR THREE DAYS with our cranky OLD painter and WAR VET (who was blown up three [3] TIMES (in the war), PLUS an AIRPLANE that crash landed ON HIS CAR!!!...., Dougy. He is very crabby, but he was a friend of my Dad's and we worked it out together until almost the end when he admitted that he was going blind and had severe cataracts, and so I asked him, 'how the hell are your painting then?', and he said, 'by braille.'

The garden is looking great and hopefully things will catch up now it’s getting warmer. Nothing in the garden here in England seems to want to wake up lol🤗

Spray the rose bushes with soapy water. It'll kill the bugs before they eat all the flowers.

Was surprised to see Mexican sunflowers in garden. They are a terrible invasive alien in South Africa which we struggle to remove. They make hundreds of seeds and spread like crazy here.

That Tilda fabric table runner looks fantastic 😍 I use this brand in patchwork/quilting but have never thought to use it for house linen. Merci beaucoup for the tip ! Bisous des Pyrénées Orientales. xxxxx

I would love to have a Chateau la Land cookbook. How wonderful to recreate the lovely dishes of the many chefs and cooks who have appeared in the videos over the years!
