Thank you for the tutorial, and thank you especially for letting us focus on your voice and actions without having to filter out some stupid 3-chord background music loop. Corrupting posts with background noise seems to be very popular. I have no idea why content providers seem to think that the harder they make something to hear, the better it is when what they should be doing is making it easier to hear. You seem to understand this, so thanks again. I was able to get through your post without having to bail for the sake of my sanity.

Really great video thank you for it. I was wondering if there is any way to use Smart Reframe but then if it's not quite getting enough of the shot in still then is there a way to say back out of the crop of the video to get some of it back? I know that would obviously introduce black bars at the top and bottom but I'm not fussed by that as I have a fairly unique need to be able to do that. Hopefully there is some way to get it to follow the action as it were but then back the whole clip of somewhat to get the parts that it missed in? Thanks.

This was really helpful, thanks! I'm currently working on converting a horizontal video containing two people into a vertical one for Instagram Reels but it feels like I have to do a looot of cuts (on top of the scene cuts feature) to make it work with smart reframe. I'm shooting for an end result where the frame smoothly slides back and forth between two people whenever one of them is speaking but it's really challenging to make reframing as smooth as I'd like. Any suggestions?

Hi Chadwick hope you can help me on a problem similar to this. i have some 1080 video that i took with my iPhone 13pro, i also have some photos that i took with the same phone, i spent ages editing them but when i render the video the photos are massive in the finished project, almost zoomed into a 1/4 of the photo. I have changed all the rescale settings but no joy. so far the only way i have managed to sort it is to take the photo into photoshop resize it to 1080 then take it in to Davinci. hope you can help or maybe do a video on it , the photo size from my iPhone is 4032 x 3024. would be good if DaVinci could just shrink them down. many thanks steve

Chadwick, this video is super useful! I learned lots about the Quick Export feature! Last month I started doing a one-minute daily news video. My plan was to repurpose it for Twitter/Instagram/KZfaq shorts. I created the main version, then duplicated the timeline twice and created the 1:1 and 9:16 versions, but had to export manually. With the quick export settings for h264, I assume I could accelerate it further. This is a wonderful tip! Anyway, I trying to create a custom script to duplicate the timelines, rename them, set the custom settings. Worked with the DR16 and DR17 betas but broke with the DR17 final version. Time to learn more!!
@CreativeVideoTips
@CreativeVideoTips 3 жыл бұрын
Oh wow! I didn’t know it was possible to do a script like that. Was that all inside of Resolve that you did that? Or using a macro from a 3rd party software tool? Thanks so much for the encouragement! I’m glad you see the value in quick export like me 😀

@Creative Video Tips Hi Chadwick! I was wondering if I could ask a couple of questions, please. I am pretty new to DaVinci Resolve, and am absolutely loving it! However, I have a small KZfaq channel, and can not really invest in the paid version of Resolve yet. I was wondering, is there a better option than just keyframing it manually on the free version? Also, if I get the paid version, will I have to pay again when new versions come out? Thank you so much!
@CreativeVideoTips
@CreativeVideoTips 2 жыл бұрын
Hey - Absolutely ask any and all questions! That is my favorite part of the whole channel and how I personally learn the best myself. There isn't another option other than keyframing, but there are some tricks to setting those to do it faster. Without making a whole video on it. Set a start keyframe with a shortcut key while in selection follows edit mode. Then use the transform control edit mode on the viewer it self to reposition the start, then move the timeline and reposition in the viewer again and it will set the 2nd keyframe for you automatically and you are just working visually in the viewer the whole time. This beats manually moving numbers in the inspector. Side note - I have the paid version, but still need to do this most of the time and can't rely on the auto controls of the paid neural engine for me on this. So while it's cool, it's not fool proof. 2 - Once you buy resolve, you have it for life. I started using resolve in about 2012 or so and have never paid for an upgraded version since. I have only bought several more licenses for different facilities and computers. It is worth it, but not soley for the reframing feature. The best way to buy it is with a product and have it included (the speed editor bundle, a color surface, a camera all come with it).

Hi Chatwick, great video. Whenever i set the timeline porperties to "full frame crop" my videos (which are 16:9) cannot be moved to the side (reframed) cause they are cropped although there should be space left of my wide original video. Any idea what i missed...?

Excellent! You're the best channel for resolve right now. Keep it up! Question: Do you use prores files for instagram? What are your export settings regarding instagram?
@CreativeVideoTips
@CreativeVideoTips 3 жыл бұрын
You are too kind - there are a lot of great people teaching resolve on youtube. I don't use prores for IG - but I will most of the time export a prores master out of Resolve. Instead I'm usually running most final deliverables through adobe media encoder out of old habit with the match source high bit rate setting. H264 out of Resolve isn't bad though but the youtube presets are terrible. I would use the built in H264 quick export preset if I didn't kick out ProRes masters (which is really overkill, just an old habbit). You get a good 15-16mpbs file which is perfect with quick export.
@trizzleseven
@trizzleseven 3 жыл бұрын
@@CreativeVideoTips I had that habit, too, but Resolve renders really quick, what I really like. I can't decide whether to render a smaller file that won't get too much compression from instagram (which can't be measured I think) or to render the best quality with a higher bitrate. I often read the theory that the first version would have better results but I can't find any proof or data about that. What is your experience?
@CreativeVideoTips
@CreativeVideoTips 3 жыл бұрын
@@trizzleseven the only reason to render it smaller with a low data rate is to not send a big video file to your phone. I understand your thinking behind that but that is circa youtube from 2007 or so. Instagram will apply the same compression based on the resolution regardless so it's better to give it something better.

You are too kind. This idea could make for a good video on it's own - I'm adding it to the list. At the core - you will want to be in the color page, get your image looking great - grab a still of the frame you like (right click on the image to do that) - then export the still from your gallery as a jpeg.

I actually picked this tip up from Mike Murphy on youtube who teaches a lot on Screenflow which is the app I record tutorials in. He goes over the technique in this video - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qJ6cY8iJlduqaGw.html This would be doable in some of the traditional editing apps too, but I try to edit the screen captures as much as possible inside of screenflow. Unfortunately it’s not a fix all especially if it’s hard for the AI to determine things like fast moving faces. To deal with the bars open the inspector an zoom in, push in making the scale larger. You can also adjust your x, left right position there as well. Hope this helps.
