Is Tom Izzo’s coaching style effective?
@elowe5937
@elowe5937 5 жыл бұрын
Is that really a question? He's a Hall of Famer with more success and respect than nearly anyone in the game. His players and peers revere him. Not to mention he graduates his players as a main focus. He cares about these dudes as people not an asset to attain more success. This story is a non issue pushed by non athletes who wanna keep these young adults children as long as possible.

The players just want to win and they know the guy after a full season. They both were arguing and the players did not look shocked, he did not pull the guy from the game, it ended and they got down to business.

Some of u may have went to programs where u accepted that coaching style,t hat doesn't make it right.Players revered bob Knight and look how it turned out for him.The guy brought a whip to practice,thats ridiculous! and disrepectful to every player on that team.That metaphor and symbol of that should never be tolerated!There not on a plantation.M y point is that u shouldn't be conditioned in your mind that a coach has to to yell and scream and berate u for u to feel u are accepted by him.Thats the easy way out for him,youre letting that coach off the hook.because he cant figure out motivational words to get u focused and engaged.Who decided that being threatning and degrading was the way to motivate players,think about it!Its the conditiining of your mind to believe that if coach stops yelling at me,he's given up on me.thats where u were manipulated to believe that's the norm and its not.I f you worked at a construction site and your boss started cussing u out,are u gonna say coach did it so its ok.no! i dont think so .Again im not saying coach shouldn't get on you if your not doing whats asked of u on the floor.Its to the degree that he goes,and what he is saying,and his threatning manner.I know many coaches who have been successful with a different philosophy,John wooden ,dean smith,john thompson to name a few.There are things "back in the day,"as we called it,have accepted things in society because some people says it is so and as we've come to find out,everything isnt so.Its not the law of the land.Listen sports teaches many things,discipline,focus,team support,competition,winning.All of those things are vital.It parallels into the real world.But teaching,motivating,and explaining a situation when there is adversity on you're team and or player in a constructive disciplinary manner, I feel n the long run is the best way to go.Guys open up your minds and understand that being berated and threatned isn't the norm to motivate.You were young and impressionable back then,and would have accepted anything,because of your situation.I m gonna give u a little known fact: Larry bird started out at Indiana university under bob knight,and within that same year transferred to Indiana State,The rest I say is history!Again ill say part of that behavior from that coach at michigan state has to do with legacy,universities expectation,and relevancy.He may know basketball,but all coaches at some point should evolve.

Tom Izzo is a winner, he graduates his players, and he's a great coach. He did nothing wrong and people who play sports understand it was just a heated moment and no big deal. Have you ever heard trash talk during a college game or the things fans say on road games? What Izzo said is NOTHING once you look at the big picture of what players hear.

Although we understand what Nick was trying to convey, Cris Carter is DEAD ON. Spectators and or audiences have become critical these days. Call it “old school” or whatever you want to call it, but Tom Izzo is of that mentality of getting the very best out of his players as well as himself. The high praise and respect of former players of Coach Izzo should speak volumes.”Coddling” serves no purpose nor prepare players for the game, much less life. #justsayin

I’m 24 so I feel like I’m right in the middle of this debate. When I played sports as a kid we got yelled at. I was in band in high school our band director yelled quite frequently if we did something wrong. When I did something wrong at home my parents yelled at me. I also got spanked too. This new generation coming up is extremely soft. I work at an elementary school and I “can’t” yell at some of the kids “don’t respond to yelling” 🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️ when I yell you better respond lol. If this continues no one will have respect for authority

It is what it is but let's stop pretending things were that different 30 40 years ago. There have always been guys who could take a coach riding him hard and guys who couldn't take it. Some parents who were okay with it and some who were not. The difference now is that a coach might lose his job but years ago he probably wouldn't. Players haven't changed. Its the people running the sports and society who have changed.
