Love to see these type of vids with actual comparisons. I tend to use non toxic grease on washers and mineral oil on bearings(also non toxic) but I use mine for food prep sometimes. Will have to try out the kpl heavy sometimes to see the difference. Great vid keep making sharp things fun.

I used some KPL Heavy in my Rockstead Higo X and am very happy with it. I think for a knife with such oversized washers grease is better than knife oil and the KPL Heavy is the perfect compromise.

I love this knife. How would you sharpen a convex grind without affecting the mirror polish? I use an edge pro. I know they claim you can strop it back for years but just curious.

Do you do anything to the wood to keep it nice on the Higo or is it pretty worry free? I just bought one but mine has the carbon fiber inlay and I think the wood looks better but I figured I'd probably scratch the crap out of it or something.

@theknifewife7924...I feel the same about the Sebenza thumb stud most say "learn to position your thumb" or build up a callous, that just tells me it's a poorly designed thumb stud I have a huge collection of folders enough to open my own knife store and the Sebenza is just a crap design...(sorry) NOT sorry fan boys) it'll never get changed though. I've got 2 Rocksteads a Higo II and a Hizen both with ZDP189 and disappointed on both the edge sharpness didn't last very long at all only used 10-20 times to cut boxes to fit in recycle bin, nothing like some of the demonstrations I've seen where they stay remarkably sharp after hundreds and hundreds of cuts...they're beautiful knives though and it's not recommended to sharpen yourself you're supposed to send back to Rockstead for that. So they've been sitting in my knife cabinet for close to 2 years. They're practically brand new.

@@Haveaknifeday73...I switched my large Sebenza to dual studs bought on Etsy from NapoliEDC they were the only ones I could find that have machined shoulder that fits into the Sebenza thumb stud hole for secure fit unlike others that just have a threaded piece that fits loosely in the hole in the blade. Do you have link for timascus studs and was this a Large or Small Sebenza? Also through my research I've found many aftermarket studs claim to fit both Large and Small if you have both L&S you'll notice the stock studs are different sizes.

I came here and watched to see the knife taken apart 😀 and pleasantly surprised to see that Rockstead uses a pivot bushing like CK. Do all Rockstead's use a pivot bushing? I'm thinking about getting their smaller Hizen ZDP...to start off anyway. My next after that would be the Higo II X. I contacted Rockstead to inquire about the material they use for the detent ball and kind of put off they don't use ceramic ball, the steel they use is called SKD11 and from what I could find it's a type of D2. My inquiry was pertaining to the Hizen so unsure if ALL their knives use SKD11. Concerned about this because of the Rockwell hardness of their blades...but I'm not a knife manufacture so what do I know. But the site I found describing SKD11 said it's normally hardened up to 61Rc

@@NeevesKnives I’m sure it won’t hurt a thing. But here’s what KPL says. “KPL Heavy™ is a higher viscosity version of the KPL you know and love. KPL Heavy is highly thixotropic/shear thinning formula designed specifically for knife detents and detent tracks. Ordinarily gel-like, each time your lock mechanism clicks into place, the shock refluidizes KPL Heavy allowing it to refresh the lubrication of your detent ball. When sitting without shock/shear, the KPL heavy regains its higher viscosity so it stays put near the detent. The unique properties of KPL Heavy revolutionize detent care. Eliminate scratchy detents, lubricate less often, and trust KPL Heavy to remain SUPER washout resistant”

I have KPL original and I use sentry original tuff glide. I am new to all this I just got my 1sr CR and just used that Fluorinated grease first time as I am watching this . I didn't even think to lube up the detent track . I didnt even no some grease is for bearings and some is for washers I just been experimenting. I been messing with my 0566 Zt trying to get that drop shut I took of the speed safe . I tried the cr grease , gonna let it sit for a few days . than see if the kpl or tuff glide works better. I like the dry tuff glide so far the best from my other knives Thanks for the tutorial . If you got any info on which I should use on bearings and on washers or does it even really matter. Hey Jared I have the work sharp precision adjust and for some reason when sharpening my 0393 could only get a burr on half of the blade. The tip half could never get a burr, any idea why ?
@NeevesKnives
@NeevesKnives 3 жыл бұрын
Most likely you just had to work on it longer, which might be longer than you think if your reprofiling, and if the thickness changes one half will get a burr before the thicker half, or could be a poor heat treat, and last thing make sure your blade isnt moving, mark your blade after putting it in device with a marker and make sure its not moving, also pressure can push the blade down on that machine so try not to use pressure on the stone

@NeevesKnives
@NeevesKnives 2 жыл бұрын
Self lubrication means the surface is slick that doesn't mean it lubricates its self, I did polish the washers on this already but adding a bit of oil or grease on most knives benefits the action especially on the detent, I do agree though some do better dry in the pivot with oil only on the detent
@Zachariahfml
@Zachariahfml 2 жыл бұрын
@@NeevesKnives I try to avoid it and let it break in naturally if it's new or just clean it good if it's for maintenance. In my past experiences what you did was very accurate, it’s over time, use, and carry the CRK grease prevails. The kpl albeit heavy or regular will wear out or dry quicker. And the grease after wear in will make a barrier for dust and gunk. That initial kpl action is so smooth and just butter. I think that is why someone people do a various mix of the two, I haven’t tried that yet. Maybe next video 😂 great videos brother👍
