The only advice I'll give on this game... as you seem to have gotten a handle on most of the rest of it, is that you need to learn to recognize enemy counter attacks. If an enemy is attacking way more than it's supposed to, chances are it's just countering, and you need to find a way around that.

nice tip, I'll be certain to bear that in mind. It seemed to be the case when switching elemental affinity in the final boss encounter we had.
