In this extended feature, I hit the back roads in winter time. A hard-starting engine, freezing temps, snow, and a racing wind keep me on my numb toes. Tag along for the ride.

18:06 I don't know if you're aware of this, but there is now a 2 part upper cylinder replacement for the YD100. it is a thing that exists. Which means, you could fabricate a custom head with more aluminum in it, to help with heat dispersion on longer rides.
@michaelbrinks8089
@michaelbrinks8089 Жыл бұрын
I seen the LD100 is a 50mm cylinder with the open style transfer ports & they sell a aftermarket CNC head that supposedly fits. So you don't have to use the stock 2 spark plug head. But the Cylinder & CNC head together is more expensive. If the CNC is a true higher compression with decent squish it might be worth it.

I grew up in upstate NY so I know the pain of the cold very well. I've had to manually peddle 4 miles to work in conditions like that and worse. People called me crazy & I'd just reply "A man's gotta eat right?" Men accept and embrace risks and often seek risky activities just for fun. As for the cold I'd always wear 2 layers more than I think I needed and carried a backpack with enough space to remove a few if needed. My typical gettup from skin to air is as follows. -Muscle shirt, long sleeve thermal, T-shirt, Long sleeve, light zip hoodie, heavy pull over hoodie, Winter coat -I also wear under armor leggings & fleece lined jeans & sometimes fleece lounge pants between those. I'd typically bring one extra pair of socks thermal long sleeve and muscle shirt my innermost layers on adventures incase I sweat too much. I try to mitigate that by removing a hoodie if I start to get too hot. Even with all that in extreme sub-zero temps with a strong sustained wind you still feel the chill to the bone. I'd rather be a little overprepaired and worried about sweating too much than to be underprepared and dealing with frostbite. I've since moved to Florida and can get away with riding with a heavy hoodie and some gloves during the 2 coldest weeks of the year. I don't miss the cold but I do miss my sanity. The Cray Cray Florida man exists and is everywhere. Meth Molly and Crack make one hell of an impact on people and a community.

I'm actually planning on moving from upstate ny (binghamton) to Florida and I wanna do it with my motorized bicycle before the end of the year. I just haven't picked where yet in Florida. I'm basically going because it's warm all year and I can fish all year. And the fish are bigger cause they eat all year.

18:10 Turns out a 25:1 mix will actually make your engine run hotter instead of cooler coz it's getting less gas/leaner hotter. I recently watched a chainsaw video & guy did thorough temp testing on the subject. He did 25:1 VS 40:1 it ran cooler on all his tests with a 40:1 & always hotter with 25:1. I'm jealous AF, just seen a guy in Wisconsin buy a 1980 Arctic cat panther snowmobile for $150. Everything worked, except for weak tach gauge, 440cc 2 stroke just had a broken wire on the ignition coil that needed soldered back on.

Interesting. I'm planning on re-jetting for a richer mixture soon. Hopefully, help with the hard starting and temp issues. And yeah you can get dirt cheap sleds if you catch the deals in time.

Sorry to butt in, but that makes complete sence because saws are designed so the charge from transfers shoots straight across the top of the piston for cooling. Fuel cools things down much much better than oil. Thanks for sharing your info sir.

You should let it warm up a few minutes before you start your ride. Also, buy a face mask for those cold rides. I once rode 2 miles in the snow to the liquor store. I made it all the way there until I tried to stop, then I slid and busted my butt and bent my pedal crank! Btw I got a BIG BOTTLE of crown royal. 🤘😁

I saw the thumbnail and thought "WHY YOU DO THIS PULSAR2121?? who hurt you??" Also, 2nd thought, I wonder if you could use the white magneto wire to feed a capacitor bank, that would in turn heat your grips for winter riding, I see white stuff on the ground, and it's not cocaine. I nearly died going to work yesterday, and it was 45 degrees down here in MS. Don't know how you do it.

Great video. Maybe you should try barmitts and or a throttle wrist saver next time? You can keep your fists balled up while pushing down on a wrist saver on the throttle. But you probably won't need to do that at all with quality bar mitts.

The heated vest from Temu(or harbor freight but much more expensive) is a real life saver out in that cold. I put that vest on, then my regular jacket, then a Frogg Togg suit over top. Only my face knows it's cold out.

19:03 I'm thinking there are 1 of 3 ways to increase the output on the stators. Either modify an existing stator, or replace with a custom one, or add in a second stock one.I would try the custom route, with a drilled hole in the cover, and a much longer steel rod, you could use something like a microwave transformer for a coil, and some neodymium magnets as the magnetic field is strong with those. Maybe stick the magnets all around the shaft, then epoxy or JB weld them on? regardless what you do, I would suspect you couldn't get more than 1000 watts maximum out of this engine. It *is* 100cc though, for comparison the little Gator 2 stroke generator that HF used to sell made something like 700 watts continuous. What I'd REALLY like to see is a disconnect and a govener added into the engine controls, (or maybe just something like a simple lever like a lawnmower has to regulate RPMs) But the ability to "disconnect" the drive train, and just use the bike in generator mode would make for a really cool project, cause you could drive the bike to a remote area and have a 1000watts AC at your disposal, 100 watts isn't a lot of power, but it very much is approaching useful amounts, you could run light power tools off it.
@pulsar2121
@pulsar2121 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the ideas. Supposedly, the engine is rated at 3.2kw in stock form, but I have trouble believing that. Feels more like 2kw. Anyway, yes, in theory it is mathematically possible to generate a continuous 1,000watts, but I imagine the engine would have even more cooling issues in stationary form as it has no shroud or fan.

yeah about a week ago, I was riding my Lectric xp step through 2.0, early morning, going to work, and went to adjust my light, and hit a pothole at 30 mph, and faceplanted into the pavement, broke my eye socket and got lots of road rash on my face, had bleeding in my brain, lots of bruises and cuts. wear a helmet, my dude, 25-30 mph may not kill you, but by god it'll hurt! Do you have real motorcycle gear for that brigs 4 stroke build?

Thank you for this video. I’m supposed to be buying a 49cc 2 stroke mountain bike. Never had one before. I had a motorcycle before but nothing like this. It’s a giant brand bike. Dude wants $400 for it. My question is it it worth it? My ride will be a mile to work and around town. It’s a pull start. Also will I need 2 cycle oil too?
@pulsar2121
@pulsar2121 Жыл бұрын
Whether or not it is worth it depends on how old the Giant is and which kit it has on it. That's in the ballpark tho. Yes, you will need to mix in 2-cycle oil with the gas.

You should always let the engines warm up first (at least 100C) before taking them for a spin. Also you can cut groves into the clutch plate like I did. It really helps with cold starts (as long as you can find some dry ground). kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jpmZg7R0pr3blqc.html&ab_channel=TheCBC (skip to 4:18 that's where I show the first version of my cut clutch plate)
