Awesome review! I can see where having a smaller, more-portable, on-the-go stand would be useful in certain situations. I adore my Needle-needs floor stand but not all stitched projects are meant to be Ginormous! 😄. I'd love to see a video on your comfort level while actually using this and perhaps a video on two-handed stitching. I feel bad asking even more of you. You are just always so kind so clear in explaining stitchy things to us. Remember, ONLY if you can find some "free" time! You are such an asset to the stitching community. You are adored and cherished!

Hi Carolyn, I want to thank you for this review because after watching your video and find out that this hoop stand made in Turkey (I'm living in Turkey:) ) I started looking everywhere for it, craft shops, internet online shops but I couldn't find a Turkish local shop which sells it and ordering internationally is costy beacuse of postage payments. when I lost my hopes I saw the nurge hoop stand on a forgetten corner at my usual craft shop and I jumped on it:D I'm using it for two days now :),I already have some nurge hoops and I always work with hoop so I found it very usefull. Like you said it is easier to work with two hands and it makes you faster and I loved it, I really really thank you so much:) xo

I love all of your videos and am very glad you have done this one as I'm thinking about getting one. Was just wondering though, I tend to use a 10 inch hoop, when sitting on the sofa with it do you think using a 10 inch hoop with the stand would be too big and uncomfortable to stitch with? x

Amanda Williamson Hi Amanda, what is the smallest piece of fabric you can fit in the smallest Millennium bars? I've always wondered that. I'm not keen on ordering anything else from NeedleNeeds, although I love their products. x

Carolyn Mazzeo Hi Carolyn, The smallest piece of fabric I have used in the 10" bars is a piece 9" wide and length doesn't really matter. When I have done Christmas cards for friends I work out how much I need and as you can obviously roll the fabric up any length is OK. Like you I will not be ordering anything more from NeedleNeeds, they are horrendous to deal with even over here in the UK - no customer service at all, do not return emails and when you actually speak to them on the telephone they come across as if you should be grateful that they are around. Fab products but nothing else going for them. Did you get my comment on the giveaway? Take care Carolyn Hugs Amanda from UK xxxx
@TheFlosstubeStitcher
@TheFlosstubeStitcher 9 жыл бұрын
Yes I think so. I haven't looked at the giveaway entries in the last few days but I have been commenting on every entry ;). I'm not at home right now so I can't check. I may have some exciting information on another company that makes a frame identical to the Millennium. I'm still waiting on the company to get back to me with prices etc.... But it could be very exciting to have another company to deal with! Stay tuned 😉 If I ran either of my businesses the way NeedleNeeds does, I would have been bankrupt a long time ago. Customer service is Number 1.... No exceptions!!! Somebody obviously didn't tell them! xx

Well I am getting through it. My scissors are very sharp and pointy. So in order not to accidentally rip into the fabric, going very slowly, having very good light, and patience are the key things to remember. When I find I want to hurry it up a bit, I get up and come back later.☺️ thanks

Check out Phillipa Turnbull's videos at The Crewel Company. She uses plastic wrap instead of wrapping the hoop with binding. It works beautifully! It prevents the cloth from being marked by the hoop and the fabric stays tight in the hoop.

Hi, thank you for this excellent, thorough review. It’s been a few years now, I was wondering if you still use it, and are you still happy with it? I am also debating between those two as well. I just watched a Japanese lady using hers while she embroidered (Class & Gessmann), and it looked excellent. I don’t have too many hoops at this point, so it maybe wouldn’t be a huge deal if I had to buy specific hoops, especially if they’re good. Thanks again. ☺️

Thanks for another great review. I've been debating purchasing something like this. I stitch using q-snaps and would like something to hold them for me. I have a question for you. Instead of securing your hoop to the stand from the inside edge to the outside edge, as you do with yours, would it also fit if you secured it from the front side to the back side? I hope that makes sense. :-)
@TheFlosstubeStitcher
@TheFlosstubeStitcher 9 жыл бұрын
Lisa K I've just found out that unfortunately these will not fit qsnaps or scroll bars. I think I understand what you mean, and I don't think it would work. It's designed to attach to the outer edges of the hoops only. I hope I've answered your questions. Please let me know if you'd like to know anything else. :) x

Did you get the plastic 'finishing hoop' from Lincraft? :) I'm from Tasmania and we only have Spotlight here, but I went to Lincraft a month ago when visiting my partner's family in Geelong, Victoria, and I picked up a pastel pink frame that looks exactly like the one you showed. I didn't even realise it was a finishing frame (does this mean it's meant to act as a frame to display the finished work?) and I've been stitching with it!
@TheFlosstubeStitcher
@TheFlosstubeStitcher 9 жыл бұрын
Areiniah MLS I can't remember if I got it from Lincraft or Spotlight, but it was one of those 2. I don't know for sure that it's called a finishing frame, but I figured because it has a little hanger on it, that was the intended use. I agree the tension on those is much better than the cheapie hoops, and they're also easier to reposition when needed. Happy stitching :) x

Carolyn, I have decided to frog several section of my pattern bc I didn't like the results. With all your experience, can you give me any tips on how to best frog without too much harm to the fabric? I'm currently going very slowly w my sharp scissors. I frog on the front of my pattern bc the back is too tight. Would appreciate any tips. Thanks. I know this is off topic. Sorry
@TheFlosstubeStitcher

xx courtr5877 It's probably not best for me to tell you this, but I actually use my needle to frog with.... not really recommended as you can bend your needle. I have a lot of needles, so I'm not really worried about that. I don't like to run the risk of cutting my fabric by using scissors. You could try a seam ripper, which is used for sewing - it has a little hook with a sharp bit in the curve, so that when you come up under the stitch and pull up it cuts the thread, or you can just use the tip to pull the thread up instead of cutting it. Hope that helps? xx

I have a question for you about HAEDs. I was wondering if you think I should try a mini one before a large one. I have purchased two different ones that I want to do but I have a couple of the free patterns that I thought about trying first. I watched your video about doing them and I'm just a little scared to get in over my head. I am an experienced stitcher but have not done any full page designs. Thank you for your opinion.
@TheFlosstubeStitcher
@TheFlosstubeStitcher 9 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! The mini ones are much smaller in the number of pages and I don't think it affects the detail too much. You could even try a Quick Stitch (QS) or a bookkeep (which is a big bookmark) from the HAED site, which I believe are smaller still. I would definitely suggest one of the freebies to try. Jennifer Apodaca (not sure I've spelt her name correctly) stitched up the freebie Princess Bride? Bookkeep and she looked gorgeous. She even made hers shorter to make it even quicker to finish. Sorry I'm being a bit vague on the spelling of names etc, but I'm not home at the moment and I can't check for sure. I know they look hard and intimidating, but they're really not. There's no fractional stitching or backstitching involved. It's just lots and lots of little x's 😉. Some designs do have metallic threads, so you may want to be aware of that if you're not ready to tackle that at the same time. Good luck with your decision. If you have any further questions, please ask and I'll help if I can 😊❤️

My q-snap frame is slightly more than an inch so it wouldnt work with that stand. I must say though, I absolutely hate q-snaps as I have to adjust the tension every ten stitches or so. Terribly time consuming and more and more often, I dont want to even stitch because of this.

Patty Smith My pleasure Patty - I love things where you're not restricted to using it only one way, and the fact I could use the hoops I already had in my stash was perfect. Although, after trying out the hoops with the tightening screw, I can see myself slowly updating my hoop stash to more of those! Also an added bonus, is my left hand no longer cramps up after holding the hoop for too long while I stitch. It's a win-win :) x

I'm not a hoop stitcher...but watched your video anyways... You said that non of your hoops had a screw to use a screwdriver on? I had a look in shops today (was looking for a hoop to frame a project) and also at the hoop I inherited from my grandma...and all of them had a screw...even the old and relatively cheap ones...so if you prefer those maybe you can get hoops by "prym" (it is a rather international company), they have a screw ;-)

Freddy W. I've never heard of that company Freddy - we probably don't have it here in Australia, like most others. It's pretty much a choice between Chinese imported products or really expensive international brands for us. I love German products and I've always found them to be extremely sturdy and well made. I think the problem is where I live I have limited resources, so I was extremely excited to find what I did, when I did :) x

I bought the Nurge Seated Embroidery Stand with 2 hoops after watching the video. I had to sent back the hoops because screws and holes on hoops did not match. The screws on replacement hoops stripped after using them one time and there is no replacement unless you order them from the company. The hoops are not tide enough to keep the fabric in place. The stand it self does not stay tide either. The head has to be adjust all the time because it slides down and it doesn't keep hoop in place. I paid so much money for it because I live in Canada and the shipping was horrendous plus return shipping for replacement. It is such a disappointment that I would not recommend it to anyone.
