Just some things about Q-snaps you might find useful.
** one tip I forgot to mention, is that using strips of rubberized drawer/shelf liner material between the clamp and your stitching fabric works well as both a buffer and gripping layer. **

TFS. I have a grime gaurd that I made, I thought it was the guard but apparently it was the way I was setting up the fabric. Ugh

Great tips!!! i have a question... what is the need for stitching "in the well" when using both a q-snap AND a grime guard? Isn't the purpose for it, to keep grime from hands, from getting on either the front of your work, or the stitched area itself? When the grime guard is properly used as you showed, your hands dont make any contact with the fabric whatsoever, not even while holding the piece. Thanks for sharing so much helpful info with us!

If I drop the qsnap or it falls off the surface I set it on, no matter which side ends up face down, I don't have to worry about anything touching the front. Also, stitching in the well allows me to stitch closer to the qsnap. Burying a thread on the back close to the edge is much easier.

So helpful thanks, just wondering I've never seen qsnaps like your one, mine all have raised sides at the corners, what make are they. Love all your videos.

+Laura Baker Thank you Laura! My frames are authentic Q-Snap frames. There are several other companies which make snap frames, and some have knobby corners.

Wonderful, THANK YOU! How long do you leave your fabric in the Qsnap? Do you just leave it in until ready to move without worrying about fabric? I am a long time hoop user considering switching over...
@Tricia-TheLefthandedStitcher

+Emily Weber Hi Emily! Yes, I leave the project in the q-snap until I need to move to a different area of stitching. The fabric does get quite rumbled, but none of the sharp creases a hoop often leaves. I also do not stitch on any fabric that I cannot wash after stitching is complete.

Hi just wondering what the additional fabric is for around the outside of your cross stitch? is that for framing or to help stop fraying? do you take it off once you are done? thanks
@Tricia-TheLefthandedStitcher
@Tricia-TheLefthandedStitcher 8 жыл бұрын
+popples199 I add it to my stitching fabric to allow me to use a q-snap without needing to leave the necessary 4 in margins that using a q-snap requires for comfortable stitching. This way I conserve my stitching fabric. I show the process and talk about it in my Project Prep video. Once you've watched it, if you have any questions, just ask. Happy Stitching!

+Tricia - the left-handed stitcher No, ma'am. It's still not working for me. :/ Not sure why. I've tried it several times a day at all different hours. I've even tried it in different devices and tried while connected to other family members' WiFi... I have no clue what it is...

Any other videos, of anyone's, that won't play for you? If you are willing to try something for me, as I'm curious, try downloading the video to your device. I use a website.... savefrom.net copy and paste video url into block in the top part of the paste and follow instructions. I use the website as opposed to downloading the program, so no need to scroll down the page. if you try it, plz let me know if it plays for you once it is downloaded.

+Tricia - the left-handed stitcher I haven't had this issue with any other videos. I can't get this one to load past 6 seconds. I tried downloading through the site you suggested. It worked but there was no sound. But I did at least get to watch the video. Haha.

How long do you leave your project in the q snap at a time ?
@Tricia-TheLefthandedStitcher
@Tricia-TheLefthandedStitcher 8 жыл бұрын
I usually leave it in until I need to move it or I am done with the project. so a project might sit in the q-snap for months, depending on how many projects I have going at one time, and i am very comfortable with that. one thing to keep in mind is that I wash every project once it is completed, therefore I use only fabrics and threads (colorfast or prerinsed) that can be washed.

I try to do it as you do but once I get to putting on the grime guard the side is the problem, so once I manages to get it on I shove in the extra fabric sticking out of the grime guard like you, but it seems to be much bulkier than yours and when I remove it it's pretty wrinkly. Will the wrinkles come out when it's washed and will all the bulk be harmful to my wip and grime guard??
@Tricia-TheLefthandedStitcher
@Tricia-TheLefthandedStitcher 8 жыл бұрын
Yes it does get quite wrinkled, and they do come when washed and ironed (fabric damp but not dripping, face down on clean towel on ironing board, dry iron until fabric is dry). I've been known to shove in the bit of fabric still sticking out. Sometimes getting it perfect takes time, and I decide quasi-perfect is good enough, because I'm anxious to get to stitching.
@tamaraj4200
@tamaraj4200 8 жыл бұрын
Ya but your example was just the top and bottom, my current wip has three sides that need to be stuffed into my grime guard. So it makes it extra hard to get it neat like yours.

I bought some special soap that is made just for cross stitching. I am waiting for it arrive so I don't know much yet, but it's called Treasure Wash. I don't trust the soaps and detergents that we have in my home.

Tamara - Mini Xstitcher When I wash my cross stitch projects, I use Dawn (standard blue version). Works like a charm.
@tamaraj4200
@tamaraj4200 8 жыл бұрын
Ya that's good to know if I use up all the treasure wash, but I prefer the stuff that's made for the fibers and delicate threads. It costs about the same as dish soap aa well so it's not a concern cost wise.

why is your fabric in backwards in the snaps
@Tricia-TheLefthandedStitcher
@Tricia-TheLefthandedStitcher 8 жыл бұрын
+Tamara - Mini Xstitcher It is called stitching "in the well". I started doing this some years ago. When your project is loaded onto a frame that way, no matter how you set the project down the front of the fabric will not touch the table. If you get set your stitching down quickly or drop it on the floor by accident, even face down, the front is protected. Also, ending a thread on the back by running it under a few stitches is much easier, since you won't run into the frame if you are close to the edge.

Sounds like a good idea, is it difficult to get used to stitching a little farther away, I have only been stitching for 3 months. Also if you look up my name I have uploaded a video and would love your advice on my setup. Thanks

Hi I hope you see this and I don't know how to do a private message but I think you would know how to help me :) I am a college student and I moved my Heaven and earth design from a scroll frame to hoop. I only have one hoop and I don't know what to do with all my fabric now. I need to figure out something to do with it before Nov 19( I don't want to post why I have a dead line in something public) Thank you in advance and I love your work :)
