Lots and lots and lots of small patches and improvements to CS2 recently as it gears up to release day. Here are my thoughts.
Also, the problems with CS2 aren't 'new' problems: • SINFO Conf 2015 - Minh... &t=494
0:00 - So many updates!
0:44 - Release date?
2:33 - Netcode
4:47 - Placebo
5:37 - The tickrate test
6:27 - Brandolini's law
8:17 - Putting your trust in Valve

@@Troublesome87You don’t understand his points at all. He’s saying there’s so many factors at play, it’s almost impossible to test this himself without having all the data like Valve does. Placebo and biases are well-known to be found in the CS Community making it even harder. Fact is that during the response time from your input till it gets relayed and registered at the server-side there can happen so many other things both client and server side to determine the actual cause, making this problem so hard to fix. Also let me tell you that the game is in open beta and CSGOs beta launch was way worse than CS2s beta launch.

As a game dev who was worked on implementing client side prediction and server reconciliation, the community largely has no idea what they are talking about. This topic goes way deeper than most people realize at surface level. I appreciate you recognizing this and saying "aaaa I'll leave it to someone else" Honestly it's upsetting to me to see some of things people say because I know there's nothing I can do to explain how miserably wrong their entire argument is. Dunning Kruger effect + the CS community works as a mob that can not be told they don't understand what they are talking about. Classic.

Valve should put "Increased subtick processing to 128 tick" into the next patch notes, without changing anything. I'm curious if the overwhelmingly negative subreddit would pivot to positive posts, purely off placebo

No, what they need to do experiment other solutions to find what suits best. I have 35 - 42 ping and i die without seeing the enemy sometimes. now i tell you i spend a lot of times cs go regular mm faceit and esea. Best was local esea servers which located to istanbul and played 5 to 10 ms and i felt like we play on lan. However german servers on Faceit was something like 60 ping and it was very good besides worse than esea. However regular mm, 64 tick and around 70 80 ping? it was spray and pray. If someone tell me they dont see any difference between 64 and 128 tick on blind test i tell you that person dont know what to look for. It is very obvious if you watch your bullets 128 tick is much faster than 64 tick which feels like your weapon fires first but your bullet takes some time to travel to the point where you are shootin. So all theese years and improvement on technology and communication services such as ISP's, that shouldnt be that hard to mimic cs go 128 tick on a bigger and better way. However worrying part is at least for me in cs2, when i throw a granade, it take half a secon delay before it launches from my hand after character animation is finished. How come this and dying without seeing enemy normal so called sub-tickrate system? Like i have 35 ms delay but my granaed feels like i throw it over 100 ms ping? If 128 tick costs more eneregy make it 5 usd per month to play on it so it would pay by itself. It wouldnt be so hard to make community accept it which esea did for many years. I hope cs2 becomes a great game, new smoke is good but mirage, inferno needs rework and tickrate should be improved however they decide to do. Like i shouldnt die without seeing enemy. This happened several times and i was shocked because peaking from wall and die after you run behind the wall was very normal on cs go especially on regular mm servers but i never died without seeing enemy like cs2.

@@QuintessentialWalrus It's because back in 1.6 these different commands actually made a noticeably huge difference in how your game felt. It wasn't just a placebo thing back then, it was clear as day that the commands you got from some random pro actually felt amazing. Now though the pros just get shit off reddit and from their twitch chats and then go instantly telling everyone that it helps and because everyone wants to be a pro they use the same settings without any question and it snowballs from that point. The kid who goes pro using weird fucked settings he got 5 years earlier is gonna go give out his config and some future pro gets his hand on it and so on.

It's is such a hard thing to prove people wrong, they don't want to be wrong, and will go to insane lenghts to find a glimmer of hope that they're right all along. This video reminded me of a recent video by dunkey where he showed peoples reactions to IGN reviews: the higher score - the more satisfied comments. People don't want truth, they want to hear what they wanted to hear, and that's all. I don't see how tickrate would "improve" people's expirience, 64 was enough even for pro scene, but that's not even the point. Everyone is playing with the same tickrate, if you felt you were killed because of tickrate it also means you've killed someone for the same reason. So what is even the point of going on about something that is completely unrelated to why you suck at this game. Maybe just me.

My video was mostly about standard deviation, I even mentioned a few times that the 3ms latency increase alone would be imperceivable. That said, someone posted a video right about the same time I did, demonstrating that theres a delay on muzzle flash - which I even joked about at one point LOL. That explains some of the results, but mouse input still feels completely (wrong) in CS2 compared to CSGO, and a bunch of the suggestions I've received on different testing methods will hopefully lead to a fix.
@Meminjo
@Meminjo 8 ай бұрын
Hi qkNorris! I watched your video and believe that checking the muzzle flash may not've been the best way of going about this. Since I lack the equipment required to test this myself, I'd check for client/server side hit reg instead of checking the muzzle flash. One way of doing that is with cl_showimpacts 1 (iirc, this is the command that draws the red/blue/purple impacts whenever you fire your gun) cl_renderdecals 0 (wont leave bullet holes) getpos & setpos (to make sure you're in the exact same spot, looking at the exact same place between csgo/cs2 tests) I understand if not, but if you're interested in redoing the test with this setup it might paint a different picture than the data shown in your video. Thanks for your research!

@@qkNorrisCall me silly but wouldn't the definitive proof be to just launch 2 games side by side, lock the FPS to like 300 so that they don't differ and figure out a way to make 2 windows read mouse inputs at once? You could record CSGO and CS2 on the same map in slow motion on two identical screens (or windowed but that may mess with the results) and see if there's any difference between what's shown on those two monitors. And to make absolutely sure repeat the test with screens switched around. If they both don't show pixel and frame perfect identical footage, then I'd say that's the unarguable proof.

What ping do you usually have? I feel like people need to start posting their ping with their comments as to me it seems like every ping amount is a vastly different experience in CS2 I typically have 40-60ms ping and CS2 feels dog water compared to csgo. Like small 4-5 shot body sprays that would hit in csgo aren't hitting in CS2. Yet my deagle has become way more effective (likely because of sub tick hit reg) which I suspect is because killing someone is immutable where as each bullet of damage can just be ignored if I "die" before my client gets updated (because of ping) Like I had a specific example of during a warmup on Ancient, I one deaged a guy and it was a solid half second before it actually registered and killed him. The biggest issue with that for me, is that it has eroded all trust in CS2's game play for now. Like if that shot took so long to hit, why am I to trust any outcome in any actual battle in the middle of the game. And subsequently I don't.

The biggest issue I have is I sometimes rubberband around and randomly turn 180 degrees, not sure what's causing it. I expect it to be fixed in full release or somewhere down the line. Could be my internet too, my service provider has really gone down the shitter lately.

that's because CS2 made everyone equally shit so now both you and your enemy whiff shots instead of only you whiffing and whenever you finally get a kill you feel like you're better XD. people who were shit before feel like they improved but people who were good (all the pros and high elo players) complain how game handicapped them. and Valve did it to Appeal to gold nova pisslows who sucked at the game and suck the same way in CS2 but since better players are handicapped because of shitty clunky feeling, now bad players have a chance to get some frags and feel good about their gold nova selves.

The placebo effect is a very strong thing indeed… my shooting felt a little bit off at the start of CS2, but I can’t attribute it to anything other than me struggling to recognize an enemy from their background environment. It sounds kind of dumb and it’s not bad design but we’re all so used to the old game that even something as simple as a change of how a player is contrasted with the background can throw off our instincts and familiarity with the game. Not saying valve won’t need to make some adjustments, but I’m loving how CS2 feels and plays now. It feels fantastic

Locking both games to 70 FPS and the game still feels different gunplay wise between the two. I honestly think it's because the visuals are honestly quite blinding in CS2 that the eye bleeding affect is occuring where targets are perceived much bigger than they are, whereas in CSGO models were darker which contrasted better, I also can't seem to notice a difference with the increase player contrast option in CS2 whereas it is very obvious in CSGO. Just my idea on why it feels different though, it seems everyone agrees though that SOMETHING is off, we just don't know what that is.

A lot of this is due to change. People don’t like it especially the CS community. Also probably performance being lower so most people think it’s the games fault they can’t get +500 fps consistently. I do find the subtick system interesting. That paint test to show that it really does work more accurately than csgo is super interesting! I hope people do more tests that way we can understand it better because it’s really intriguing to know how much of a difference it really does make. Most of what’s out there right now is just “proof that it’s bad” and the ramblings of csgo nolifers that are mad the new game isn’t exactly the same as the old one.

I don't mind changes for the better, and most of the community also does not, it just takes time to become accustomed to them to actually know if they improve the game or not, some changes have made the game significantly worse like removing hard resets, r8. Some of the changes they are making with cs2 will almost certainly not improve the game, some will. refreshing seeing filipe trying gameplay for cs instead of stock footage or something goofy for once. But the biggest problem for me is the ungodly amount of edges to get stuck on in maps and the horrible clipping in some places. couple this with how players feel like they have a force field around them meaning a slight bump from a player seems to shove you far and in some cases kill your speed its a nightmare to push some chokepoints in maps as Ts. The worst one so far for me is pushing through a smoked Aps in mirage. the smokes now are so voluminous that 1 clogs the whole of aps and cuz of the bad corners and clipping and the weird teammate collision i mentioned its almost impossible to thread the needle and walk through the doorways there.

I do think there was a flaw in that 128 v 64 tick test, and that it that he didn't control for higher level players. The difference in the tick rates is not going to be noticeable for lower level players that haven't extensively practiced things like spray control (which imo is the main difference I feel between the two rates). Obviously my feelings aren't proof, but I am a pretty high elo player, and I always feel like people in Valve MM are way harder to hit and that the guns are way harder to control than on Faceit. Maybe it is just a placebo, but I have dozens of clips of crazy 180 long ranged multi kill spray transfers on 128 tick, and on 64 tick I find even spraying one person at close range to be pretty hard sometimes. I would like to see that test done again while having controls for elo
@lightlezs7048
@lightlezs7048 8 ай бұрын
There are other qualities of the test server that affect the general "feel" of the hitreg accuracy, the most accurate test would be for valve to straight up offer one of their normal cs servers for testing, and have people be selected in a mm fashion (as in unpredictable distance and internet connection qualities for each player), then do the 64 vs 128. I obviously can't know for sure, but based on the little networking experience that I have I'm pretty certain the results will be the same (as in there are going to be hit reg issues in both cases, tick rate is not the only factor that decides that).

@armeretta
@armeretta 8 ай бұрын
@@lightlezs7048 It's not really about hit reg, it's that when you spray the server has to update your view angle (if it was client side people could easily do recoil scripts), and on 64 tick there are less updates which make the recoil seem jittery and uncontrollable. On 128 tick you have double the updates and it makes the recoil feel more smooth and you have more control over it.

In it, he states himself that "*sarcastic tone* 3ms of extra delay" average input lag realistic doesn't matter, instead he puts forth the theory that the greater deviation of input lag might be what makes cs2 feel off to people. This seems to be a very reasonable point to me. I just think it's weird that you just take one piece of data in his video that he himself discarded, then pretend like that's the conclusion to his video in order to dismiss it instead of at least addressing his actual conclusion.
