Fiberglass insulation has glass particles that can be airborne and get into your lungs. That's why professionals that install r-15 insulation wear a n-95 respirator. Make sure you wipe down the bag and make sure there are no holes (to prevent glass particles becoming airborne).

That was my concern as well. Seems like a great idea but I'm doubting particles will not come out when you start pounding that bag . Not sure it's safe.

I've worked out on traditional heavy bags kzfaq.infoUgkxp9-sf95nqfjey-uyzxUzQ7m9MXRPK1BE a spherical stuffed "wrecking ball" bag, and now this thing. What I like about it is that it has the heft to stay largely in place so I'm not chasing it around. It's tall enough to allow for headshots and body shots, but it's short enough to give an uppercut somewhere to land. I'm very happy so far. Filling it was a bit of a cluster. For top-offs, I've learned that you can screw the supplied nozzle onto any basic plastic water bottle. I can't speak to durability as I've only had it a week.

Carpet pad makes a good liner and gives the bag a nice smooth feel. I asked a carpet guy doing a new install if he usually has some leftover pad after the install. He said yes and I stopped by later and he gave me more than enough. You can line the bag with several layers then fill the middle with weight, or you can use nothing but carpet pad. Depending on the feel you’re going for. I built a bag with nothing but tightly rolled carpet pad (it was really compressed, it’s a two man job) covered with a layer of duct tape. It was tight and hard work getting it in the bag, but once I got it inside the bag, it hit great. It works well for me.
@Rruns26
@Rruns26 3 жыл бұрын
Using carpet pad as a liner, prevents the bag from looking lumpy.

@Rruns26 3 жыл бұрын
One more thing... This particular bag was a canvas military duffel bag. I paid $5 for the bag and the pad was free. I wanted an old school bag. I did it for grins, but I ended up with a nice hitting bag. You don’t always have to spend a lot of money to get a good workout. It hits better than some of my expensive bags.

Probably just duct tape, can’t really restore a synthetic leather bag, would probably cost more in the long run and be a pita. Leather would be like any other leather, clean, condition, and try to rejuvenate assuming it’s not completely beyond repair

Great video! So how is the bag holding up so far? I'v been wanting to get a bag to fill myself but there are a ton of empty bags out there to choose from. But after seeing your video, I'm leaning more toward getting this one in the 4' version. Also, I know you've probably been asked this a hundred times but I was thinking about using rubber mulch as a filler, what are your thoughts on using rubber mulch? I'm looking to make something more of a "softer" fill so along with the mulch, was thinking about lining the inside with some type of foam, maybe 1/2" to 1" thick to help it not be so hard. Would probably put some old clothes/rags and such as well to try and get it up to about 80-100lbs. The everlast bag I bought last October is like hitting a fricken brick wall. haha Currently, I have been using a 55lb bad company bag that came with my stand that has a great softer feel to it but I"m looking to get something heavier. By the way, I have only started hitting he heavy bag for the past 7-8 months for exercise only so that is really my only intent. Thanks for any input/suggestion you might be able to provide and again, great video! :) I will defined be going through and watching more of your videos! :)

@@Jumpoff13 😂😂It's all good man, no worries. I'm sure he's super busy and has a ton of other people asking him questions. haha I actually tried the rubber mulch myself and for the first time using it, it felt good. But the next time I went to use the bag, it settled and felt like a solid brick🤣 Unpacked it, refilled and same thing. It just wasn't for me and decided to fill with about 30lbs of sand in the bottom in zip lock bags, line with about an inch of carpet padding then fill with new shop rags I got from a buddy that works works as a mechanic and gets them pretty cheap. That feels a lot better then the rubber mulch to me😃

I did this months ago. It would pay to buy a bag with padding already stitched into the inner. The individual sand bags are a staple. Uniformity and slightly more firm than one thinks. Great editing. There was nothing wrong with your first version. ;) You need some other fill than insulation and sand. A clothing like substance or something similar to break up the consistency. Physics and gravity. (A theory is, there is no gravity but, just the bending of space time and objects fall with no attraction) The sand will try to find the closest point to the Earth's core. In layman terms: sand will fill the open spots it can fit into at the lowest point of the bag. So, over time it is necessary to have a break up or stop gap/dam filler, so the sand won't meander down to the bottom of the bag or within the first seconds of filling it.

How much sand bags and insulation do you think you will need for a 120 cm bag

I’m thinking the same thing but I was told to fill a pvc pipe with sand in the middle and wrap the insulation around the pipe in the bag.

Does the insulation have fiberglass in it? I rather avoid that for itchy and getting cancer. Did you pack down the other layers of insulation besides the bottom one with the broom handle?

Late to the party as usual but i just filled mine for my 10 yrs old son. Used carpet padding, sredded paper from my work sredder and used the sand bag techigue. Packed it in tight and its heavy but not too heavy and soft enough not to damage his joints while punching.

How sure are you for using insulation?? New here, but I've handled insulation in the past and fiberglass manages to fly everywhere and it can get in our lungs which is a big no. Are these bags air tight? When you punch can it escape? No faster way to get that crap in your lungs by breathing heavy around it

Re: Leather, Genuine Leather is industry speak for "Leather dust bonded together with resin". Full grain is natural leather and very thick, like quarter inch or 7mm. Top grain in made by splitting the top of full grain leather from the bottom, which becomes known as Split Grain leather which is often patterned and sealed. The dust made during these operations is what they make Genuine Leather from.
