There are many ways to hang a punching bag. This also depends on the style of bag you are hanging, ceiling height, etc. There is a super easy way to hang a punching bag if you have an exposed joist in your basement and here is how I did it in under an hour. Ok so i have a 10 feet Unistrut channel with trolleys on it to hung a 90lbs punching bag and 70lbs round punching bag to roll them out of the way.. Should I bolt the unistrut channel straight to the garage ceiling joist or should I bolt down a 2x4 or 2x6 board first to ceiling then bolt down unistrut Chanel to board?? I want to use channel for the 2 punching bags, rings and a climbing rope. My ceilings are 8ft high. Thank u Also what kind of bolts should I use and do I need washers too?

I've worked out on traditional heavy bags kzfaq.infoUgkxp9-sf95nqfjey-uyzxUzQ7m9MXRPK1BE a spherical stuffed "wrecking ball" bag, and now this thing. What I like about it is that it has the heft to stay largely in place so I'm not chasing it around. It's tall enough to allow for headshots and body shots, but it's short enough to give an uppercut somewhere to land. I'm very happy so far. Filling it was a bit of a cluster. For top-offs, I've learned that you can screw the supplied nozzle onto any basic plastic water bottle. I can't speak to durability as I've only had it a week.

Video looks like it was posted a while back. Over time how is this holding up? I would like to do the same but would have to cut into the ceiling. Only want to do that once. Thanks for the video!

Great video! How is the sound transfer on the mainfloor when using the bag? also does it shake the house using this method as well?

@sherlock1469 I mounted a 110lb title bag to the load bearing beam in the basement using a Seleware heavy duty steel beam mount and not the wooden joist. The spring drops the bag by about 4.5 inches so it sits a lot lower and not perfect but usable. Heavy shots can be heard upstairs for sure. I dismount the bag when not in use.

Would this 2x6 board and exact same mount/hanger be strong enough to hold a 150lb - 200lb heavy bag? I bought this same mount/hanger, but not sure if I'll be able to hand a heavier bag between the 150-200lb range. Did you have great success with this setup?

I would think so or you could use a 2x8 board as long as it's spanning between two joist it's no heavier than a 200 lb person standing on the joist above.

The spring takes a little sting off the bag as a chain is much more ridged.

They are lag bolts that were included in the purchased kit.

Curious what the length of the spring is roughly? Looks to be about 5 or 6 in but hard to tell in a video. My basement has a rather short ceiling... like 7 ft or so and if the bag hangs too low it won't be ideal for me to swing on. Just trying to get ideas and get my bag set up better. Currently hanging from center support with some basic rope until I find a set up that I like. Yours looks legit

@@mikedadike420I have a low basement ceiling as well so I went with a Seleware steel beam mount vice using a the joist. The spring for sure drops the bag about 5 inches so that's a downside, but a good boxing stance is knees bent a little so the lowered bag forces you to hold good form. Heavy shots are still heard upstairs. Hope this helps.

Is there a reason why you just didn't screw in right into the joist? You are putting screws through it regardless.

Because of the placement of where I wanted the bag to hang, I needed to split the difference. Additionally, I liked the idea of spreading the load across two joist. Those were the only reason.
