In this video I share my thoughts on the CTek Comfort Indicator. I purchased these to make maintenance charging of our car batteries easier, and also keep an eye on the battery status incase things are getting low due to infrequent use. It is an indicator though, and depending on your cars current draw can vary in accuracy.

I saw this video when researching chargers. This helped me decide to get the comfort indicators - I even did a KZfaq video of it. It's a good bit of kit :-) I used to have a VX220 (similar to the Elise) - miss that car!

They are not mega accurate, but helps to give some clue as to whats going on, but also easier charging access which is my primary use.

Nice Evora. Thanks for the video. I've been contemplating better solutions for my Elise. This was very helpful. Cheers.

Pleasure, they are not perfect, but provide some form of easy indicator, and its super cheap :)

The ECU in most BMW cars will turn almost everything off shortly after the ignition is turned off (to prevent battery drain). The BMW Mini is the same.

Love CTEK kit all my cars and bikes have them fitted, however these indicator connectors only last a couple of years, 3 have failed on me so I have stopped buying them, they still connect but the LED's stop working.

Thanks for commenting David. Interesting to understand your experience. Mine are just over 4 years old and still working and operating as expected.

CTek Comfort Indicator. Thanks for the video. I wonder if the indicator draws much power if hard wired in and if it is ok to leave through the front grill to put on CTEK charge, avoiding the need to lift bonnet ? Looks like it is designed to be put in the dash. I have a plug in volt meter for the cigarette lighter, but this doesn't give amps.

Deffo ok to have it "hanging out". They have a rubber cover you put in the bottom to stop water ingress. I now have them on my motorbikes and works great.

Thanks for prompt reply-Does the unit draw any power and would it be flashing when not used? May look like a sophisticated alarm! I have an Audi TT with posts under the bonnet, battery in boot wonder how i can fit the rings?, as the terminals are a block for red and bolt for negative-notice they do a clamp version of the comfort connect. Cheers. @@SpectrumGeeks

@@philiphayes7014 It will draw a minimal amount of power as the leds flash when not connected to give some battery voltage indication. Like you suggest, many people have commented they think it was an alarm on my motorbikes. On my previous BMW that had the battery in the boot and terminals under the bonnet, I just connected it direct to the battery in the boot.

I fitted one to my cayman and I don’t think they are very accurate.after charging the battery for for 4 days with a ctek charger and testing the battery with a volt meter, the next day the indicator would be amber or red even though the battery is good but it is convenient for plugging the charger in quickly.

It does seem to play nicer with some batteries than others. I have them installed on 5 vehicles and the accuracy seems better on some than others. Like you say though, handy for plugging the charger in.

Sorry but that is a really poor post . Waffling for nearly 2 minutes and then just shots of darkness. Lighting and a clear explanation of connection method would have been helpful.

First off, there are 3 indicator light colors: green, yellow, red (not amber, not orange). Second: the Green lamp indicates the battery is charged greater than 90%. No recharge needed. Yellow light means greater than 40% charge but under 90%. Charge is recommended but not vital. Red lamp indicates charge below 40% -- charge is now necessary. Question: Why are you making a video when you yourself are unfamiliar with the unit and its operation?

Thanks for leaving a comment to clarify the colours to others Rockslide, and more definition on the indicator values. I am making videos because the joys of the Internet allows it, just like it allows you to come and leave comments on the video you didn't like. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment.

..you realise of course, that it's not the SIZE of the battery which donates what colour flashing light you get, but the HEALTH of the battery - irrespective of size..? You seemed surprised that the larger batteries didn't read in good health, but that the smaller one did.. size really doesn't matter, it's the health of the battery. 👍

Thanks for watching and commenting. I do realise the size is irrelevant, I used the wrong words to explain my thoughts at the time. I was more surprised the car I use everyday was red, and the occasional car was green. However, I realise now the Twizy car battery was helping to keep the 12v topped up.
