All our so called defense spending is literally to defend other countries. We get no benefit from it as we do not have the tax dollars from such a small population to defend such a monstrous border. Spend the money. Canada has been a major participant in every major commonwealth conflict. Canada was amongst the most capable militaries in both world wars. We need to be ready to show our strength as a strong and free nation and defend western values like our 4 fathers did so proudly. Spend the 2 percent and stop sending it to foreign countries we must be ready to defend ourselves and our allies. 2 years Conscription for every male 17 to 20. It has large social positives. In brings our mosaic together in a military brotherhood. Canada should have a really strong military.

Seven years ago, at the London NATO summit, Trudeau misinformed Trump about Canada's defence spending being 1.4% of GDP, which was our target for 2024-5, not our actual spending, which was 1.3% or less. And he isn't even going to match that projected estimate. You can't believe anything Trudeau says about spending. These differences look small, but when you are talking about 0.1% shares of GDP you are talking about billions of dollars.

Step One: remove Bill Blair from all involvement with the Canadian government - regardless of whether it's public or private sector. He destroys everything he touches.

If Putin was to place his troops in the Canadian arctic having food on the table would be a secondary concern very quickly.

The Avril Arrow was not nor could it ever be turned into a fighter. It is waaaaayyyy too big to maneuver. It is 15 feet wider and 30 feet longer then the new F35's. It was a 1 trick pony - bee line in a straight line as fast as possible to intercept Russian bombers. The day the ICBM was invented (launch of Sputnik) was the day the Arrow was obsolete.

@@wally7856 Canada has the ability to develop it's own fighters though. We could develop and build all our own aircraft in all honesty.

If we were to leave NATO then we wound not be able to defend our country spending 20% of our GDP on our national defence ... so just spending 2% of our GDP on our national defence is a real bargain.

Trump needs to tell NATO delinquent members that not only do they need to spend 2% this year but make up for the 2% that they have missing for decades or they will be kicked out of NATO.

Canada agreed to spend 2% of our GDP on National Defence in 2014 and reconfirmed our committment in 2021 to achieve that goal by 2024 ... so spend that 2% now not the 1.7% by 2029.
