These are great videos and really informative! I bought the LT46 two days ago from Home Depot. I watched some videos that mentioned that the big box stores don’t really set them up correctly so I started watching this channel. Every night watching another one of these is helping me get mine set up correctly! Today I adjusted the tire pressures as you mentioned and set the blade height per another video you posted. That trick with the measuring stick was great. I ended up setting the deck height at 3” then cut my stick 3” long and used it to adjust the deck height down until the blade just came in contact with it. Then did the front adjustment. Tomorrow I’ll adjust the scalping wheels per your video. Then I’ll do the grease job in this video. I would agree that it would be better to use 3in1 oil rather than the WD40 on the oiled parts. I haven’t used the new tractor yet other than just to try it out because I want to get a good beginning by adjusting everything before I start using it. I think it should be pretty well set up to use after tomorrow but I’m keeping an eye out for more of your videos. Thanks again!

Good idea cutting the stick down to your normal cutting height. That’s a great idea. Don’t even need a pencil then. I use the WD40 because I discussed the greasing with my Cub Cadet dealer and he said “always keep it as light as possible - stick with the WD 40. It’s better to not have stuff get stuck everywhere under there.” So that’s what Ive always done 🤷🏻‍♂️ More videos to come on the Cub! Have lots of ideas brewing.

Remember to ALWAYS run the engine wide open, after maybe one-two minutes of warmup. With my 2019 LT42 18 HP Kohler single with only 109.6 hours died-head gasket, I "thought" that when pulling a fertilizer spreader that you could run at a low(er) speed since the blades were not under load.... BAD IDEA.... After research I found that an air cooled engine likes/needs to run wide open for proper cylinder COOLING.... Don't be a dummy and make my mistake....
@TheNewenglandboys
@TheNewenglandboys 11 ай бұрын
@@ainttakenanyshit The issue is due to the oil “scooper” or dipper. (Think of it as a spoon dipping in the oil then flinging it up as it goes around) As the engine runs the scooper picks up oil from the bottom and throws it up to lubricate. When the motor is running at slow speed, obviously so is the scooper so the internal parts aren’t getting enough oil fast enough to do the job. That sucks about your motor but the head gasket isn’t really hard to replace at least. But make sure you replace the valve cover gasket at the same time.
@ainttakenanyshit
@ainttakenanyshit 11 ай бұрын
@@TheNewenglandboys I follow you with a "splash" system, but, the 18 HP 5400 Kohler has a pressurized oil system and what I thought was OK to run slower engine speed wan not correct..

I see people in other videos complain that their spindles do not have grease zerks. They are sealed bearings and pumping grease in them would just push out the seals and let dirt in.
@fixitFlip
@fixitFlip Жыл бұрын
Yep. Exactly. I've seen people add zerks to maintenance free spindles and you really are not going to even get any grease into the actual bearing. It is sealed. Called maintenance free for a reason.

I was lucky enough to find an XT1 LT50 just last week being thrown away in my neighborhood.. 3 house around a corner.. (thanks to my wife calling me telling me about it).. it freakin looks brand new.. only problem is a locked up motor.. can't wait to do an engine rebuild.. kohler 7000 24 hp.. it will be fun to do.. going to keep this baby.. funny thing is, I just finished restoring my dad's (now mine) 1980 Snapper RER.. Btw, those plastic bearings (bushings) last a very long time, if properly maintained..

WD-40 is NOT a lubricant, it's a dispersant, that's what the "D" in WD stands for, it disperses water and lubricants. It is doing the opposite of what you want.

Correct- the "WD" stands for water displacement. They make a garage door lube, that is a dry lube, that won't attract dirt- that's what I use. (at HD)

WD40 is about the worst spray lube you could put on anything. You want silicon spray or better yet, white lithium grease spray. Both will last far longer than WD40 and protect a lot better.

I do understand it is a very light oil. But my main goal is to get a little lube without something will get all kinds of debris stuck in it, like grease. I want to be able to blow it off with the blower and not have grass and dirt stuck in the grease.
