One part of our whole house water filter system is the Culligan 10" x 4.5" water filter. I actually have two of them installed in line after the iSpring filters. These filters remove mainly rust from the well water coming into our house. I change them once a month.
This video is my opinion of the Culligan filters and the process for changing the filter cartridge and the steps involved.

Bro I never had a problem like you at removing the filter. You're tightening them way to tight, you only hand tighten the filter then with a quarter turn or so to snug it up with the wrench. Over tightening the filter will cause you to have issue's with the o-ring such as you see in this video, I've been using the same o-ring for over five years with no leaks or deformities. It is a good idea to have a spare o-ring on hand encase you do have issue's. The grease that you use is a silicon grease, you pick it up in the pluming section of a hardware store of your choice.

A suggestion a saw on another video was to place a piece vertically across the top of the housing down to the housing. Score the tape in the middle. When you reinstall the housing you can line the tape up to ensure you're not over tightening. You could probably do this with a marker as well. Not sure if it's fool proof but it can guide you when tightening the housing.

Hey, the filter has bypass. You don't need to turn all of valves off. Just turn water filter top blue handle to close direction. Then bush the red button to release the pressure. next is to take body off. Without bypass of filter, its much cheaper. I find menards sell the most lower price of water filter at $58 with bypass and clear body.

I inherited the Culligan 360. After watching various videos on water filter replacement, it seems that many systems work in a similar way. Watching your video, I noticed that you shut off the water to the house and also said something about the "bypass." For newcomers to water filter replacement, it would be so helpful if you explained what a bypass is, what it does. More women than men now own their own homes. I've been in that club for 20 years but water filtration is new to me. Help! Before you said, "Okay, the water is back on," I think you also switched the bypass back on without mentioning it?? I love learning more about doing my own home improvement but I am aware of my limitations. Changing a water filtr does not scare me if I have clear instructions. You are good at this KZfaq stuff. Just verbalize every step. Talk to women, too. We learn fast. Thank you so much!

Whenever i have to change a filter, i can open the bypass pipe, and still have water to the house. The bypass is a pipe with a valve that skips all the filters. Here's Richard from Ask This Old House, doing a better job at explaining it than i can : kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h7Kda5x5ppqpdok.html

Ya every time i change a filter i put this grease on the O-ring. amzn.to/2UlryC8 Not sure it is silicone grease though. Here's one of the comments down at the bottom: Q: What is the lybe made from, silicone, or what...? A: It appears to me to be silicone, but the manufacturer (Haynes) only describes it as: “This sanitary lubricant is highly resistant to separation or bleed. It will not dry or gum on your equipment. This lubricant is NSF rated H1, Kosher Certified, Halal Certified, and the ingredients are FDA approved.”

That's not a bypass valve on the tops of the filter housing where the blow off valve is? And if you shut off the side where water comes in but not the house side and crack open a faucet it will relieve the pressure making the filter housing easier to open.

My townhouse has a covered front porch where PVC pipes hosted a water softener. We intend to place a screen to shade the Culligan WH filters from the Florida sun. We have a rough stucco exterior. Is it best to attach the Culligan WH filters to a board and then attach the board to the wall? I cannot imagine PVC fittings surviving the twisting and jostling involved in removing and replacing these canisters to change out filters without really securing these WH filters really steady to the wall.
@DaveWirth
@DaveWirth Жыл бұрын
They definitely need to be screwed or bolted to a wall. (drywall screws are not enough) Not sure about how well stucco will hold. And yes, to remove the filter you do put quite a bit of torque to tighten the canister. I decided to use the board, and happy i did, it allows me to attach anywhere and not need to drill into the concrete blocks.

@@DaveWirth Wow, Dave, how did you turn those blue handles? I had to return both the 4.5 and 2.5 canisters that I ordered because "working" the handles 15 times to loosen them up before installation--as directed by the instructions--was impossible. My hand was seriously injured trying. One week later and I still can't hold a cup of coffee in that hand. I went with the Culligan GXWH40L instead.

Ive been searching for a high quality 10" x 2.5" filter that takes all the chemicals out. We are spending a small fortune on bottled water here in Southwestern Pennsylvania. We are on a well and don't drink the water on account of a sediment & slight petroleum smell. I have the system, and the pleated cartridge filters....but to us it's damn near useless other than removing sediment. "Still smells" #wannadrinkmywater
@DaveWirth
@DaveWirth 4 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you have really bad water. I know for rotten egg smells people use an activated carbon filter. I use the 4 filters in this video to remove the rust/iron. Then Reverse Osmosis filters at the sink to remove Arsenic and be able to drink our water. An RO filter removes everything i think.

"really stuck on there with all the pressure," but you bled the pressure off! The canisters are just way too tight. With the food grade grease on the o-ring, the can should easily come off by hand, and only need to snug it up by hand. The wrench is only needed if it the canister is stuck. Only need a little grease; on your finger and spread it around. Watch out with that integrated bypass valve. It is possible to rotate it a FULL 180 degrees and REVERSE the flow in the filter; water will ooz out from the center of the filter if the valve is backwards. This is a design flaw. There should have been stops on the valve so it would NOT be possible to reverse the flow through the filter. FYI Culligan KNOWS about this!
