Thank you for this review, I really appreciate your honesty! I had CC picked out for my 6 year old for next year and I had the same critique you did, a whole year of ancient history at such a young age is A LOT. I am looking into Evan Moor at your request, again thank you!

Thank you for the update! My DD loves it but we only do about 2-3 chapters a month. I did noticed if we tried to do every activity and more than one chapter a week it got to be too much for her. I know she has retained some of the information because she randomly brings stuff up like cave drawings. I feel this is just helping build a foundation but we will definitely need to come back to ancient history in a few years. It has worked for us but I can see how it isn't for everyone. Glad you found a better option that worked for you and your family!

I believe the program is built on the foundation of Classical education so it makes sense that you would spend another year on Ancient history around 4th grade. Do you think you'll be able to use the curriculum then as a springboard? It looks like it contains A LOT of information!

Thanks for the review! I find most of the stuff I read to my younger kids they don’t retain at all. That is why I love the Lakeshore social studies boxes. They seem to be the perfect amount of information and projects.

I am eyeing a few of those boxes to go along with our 3rd grade curriculum. I wish they were cheaper!!

TheMommaLibrarian I know! Definitely use a B1G1 1/2 off coupon! I was able to use our educational funding to get them, but honestly, it is $135 if you use a B1G1 1/2 off coupon for 2, and I’ve found that 2 was just fine for the year. But we only do it twice a week. So that’s not that far off some other curriculum. Plus you can use them over again or sell them! Lakeshore is always expensive but I have found them to be worth the money. Even though I used their funding I’m still careful with it because we don’t get THAT much once we pay for our enrichment program and other stuff. So I still try to use it wisely.

Clarification for anyone who may read this: I do not sell anything I use funding on. Don’t want someone think I’m committing fraud lol.

Yes. I have waited to start this until my son is 8 but now you are making me think... he might not be into Ancient History as I am, LOL! :D

I was feeling the same way that this is very comprehensive for the age it is directed to.

Thank you for this review. I have been debating if I should get this for my 1st grader but watching this video, I know he wouldn’t be ready until he’s older and can actually understand what I’m reading.

Glad you found it helpful! It is definitely something we will consider coming back to when my kids are a bit older!

We haven't used this, but I was curious what it would be like. Six books to cross reference does sound a lot. Story of the world only has one, the encyclopedia then the other reading suggestions are completely optional. I do use some of their suggestions but also like to add ones I know she will enjoy. We used the evan moor pocket last year for ancient history and liked it. I don't think I would purchase this as it seems expensive for what you are getting, considering you are needing more books to cross reference on top. But never say never lol.

I have been thinking about this curriculum for the upcoming year - your review told me exactly what I feared about getting a new curriculum that requires several more things in addition to what we already have purchased, especially at this first grade level. Have you tried History Quest with your daughter? That’s another option I’m considering but again considering with caution since they all seem similar in the aspect of needing a lot more material apart from the curriculum itself.

Thank you for this review. These were my concerns as well. In a higher grade level this does seem more appropriate. Thanks for the Evan Moore idea!

Thanks for this! my 9 year old already has some reading comprehension and learning disabilities and I ordered this, printed etc and really became overwhelmed with it. I think I may save it for when he's a bit older. I'm going to check out the Evan MOOR.

You’re welcome! We have found that History Quest is a gentler/more simple approach than CC so you might check that out too!

@@music2009tt they have a read aloud and a study guide. The study guide is more like a teachers manual. I don’t have a video on it but I know there are lots on you tube! www.pandiapress.com/product/history-quest-early-times-study-guide/

Thank you for sharing. I am interested in this curriculum, my daughter will really enjoy the dialogue style of it. But, she’s into dinosaurs so I want to take enough time on a prehistory unit and early humans and not rush it, she’s into caveman so; it’ll be fun. So knowing that a 7 yr old can pass on this curriculum it’s great! I think we can take 3 “semesters” or more on it, if it’s that rich and enjoy the trip to the past! Thank you, again!
@TheMommaLibrarian3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! It doesn’t get into dinosaurs too much... if I remember I think it starts with Hunters and Gatherers. Enjoy!
