Great job! But I have to admit....I was hard core eyeballing your shaper progress! It looks great and I can't wait to see it up and running. I'm still working on mine.....

Hey thanks Jster! Yes I've been working on it all evening. I have most of the internals back together and am working on getting the ram back on.

You bring out a very good point on cutting threads with a Chinese lathe. I hadn't cut any on mine and for about three months of off and on starts I would cut these weird shaped threads but I didn't catch on as I kept attributing it to my own incompetence and certainly no one had ever mentioned any problem with setting the degrees on the scales of the various machines (there being of course dozens if not hundreds of videos on single pointing as well as double and triple). It finally dawned on me that once a again an angle is of no use if you aren't given a starting point. At that point I tried basing it off the chuck face and voila'. Now I still have to fine tune my parting as it seems to go just dandy until the diameter is reduced and then not all the time but enough to make me gun shy the workpiece climbs the cutter and busts the insert, toolholder, and scares the shit out of me! I have tried every cutter known to man and some that may be Martian in origin but they all seem to do it. No chatter just cuts fine at the start and then kaboom. I have minutely adjusted tool height up and down as well as dead center. Lots of cutting oil using the lower speed ranges and feeding by hand. As it gets to the smaller diameter all of a sudden the tool pressure rises significantly to maintain a chip and if you keep going it either finishes the cut or disaster strikes. Good thing for Bangood prices on the various insert toolholders and inserts! If I have a center hole in it it rarely happens but that last bit on a solid piece seems to one out of ten fail. Makes me default to my trusty bandsaw if possible.

Thanks Douglas. I've had the same issue with parting on this lathe. I'm not sure what to make of it either. I'll probably make a solid mount in place of the compound and see if that helps because I am having some flex.

At first , I thought those round grips were too big but, I have to admit, I really like the way they look. Seems like factory! Nice!

Great video again, why is it drill press handles keep coming loose! Noticed in the comments parting off problems, try tool up side down & chuck in reverse, use a one two three block from chuck to square up tool, always make sure tool is sharp, all gibs locked down all rigid, keep that lubrication down in the groove, speed it up a bit when getting down to final part off and finally it's all down to the feel of machine & experience, hope that helps 🇬🇧.

Thanks Grahame. I will definitely give the up side down parting method a try. Great tip.
