Custom Maps: The 198 Capital Cities Of The World (no moving) [PLAY ALONG]

A map with all 198 world capitals, half of which I've never seen, explored or even know the name of. Some of these could be really tricky to identify from their simple photospheres, but I reckon with a bit of detective work and map scouring, we might just be able to find any of 'em. You know you want to play along with this one.
The link: www.geoguessr.com/challenge/2...
BEST WAY TO PLAY: Play your round, put your marker down, then switch tabs back to KZfaq to watch my attempt and the result. This way you don't ruin the game or the video!

If there any chance that Tom reads this, regarding the compass, in the bottom right corner of the screen, near Terms of Use it says who took the "photosphere". If it says someone's name or some 3rd party company name that would mean that somebody most likely took it with their smartphone and there is hardly any chance that compass would be correct on that one. But if it says like "2019 Google" it means that this is taken from regular Google street view and you can trust the compass there.

Tip about recognizing Jerusalem: the stones you see in the last challenge are really special to the city, you won't see it so often in other places. Buildings in Tel-Aviv have a more early 20th century to modern look to them.

@spoperty4940 11 ай бұрын
the jerusalem stones are not exclusive to jerusalem at all, but when all the buildings are made of non-processed white bricks or are covered with a non-procesed plaque of a white brick and you know you are in israel, its likely in jerusalem but not guranteed. and buildings in tel aviv have a german architecture(Bauhaus) popularized by german jews fleeting germany and seeking refuge in tel-aviv,palestine during the british mandate which later turned into tel-aviv Jaffo,israel

A tip for next time. A Jerusalem by-law from many tens of years ago requires all buildings to be covered or mostly covered in a limestone which soon became widely known as 'Jerusalem stone' as a way to keep a common look around the city. Tel Aviv (and the rest of the country) is more characterized by the buildings covered in stucco. BUT, in the last couple of tens of years, new urban construction around the country might also be built with 'Jerusalem stone' for design purposes.

For any future Jerusalem locations, the government requires all houses built there to be built with a specific type of stone (Jerusalem stone) On that last location, if you were to look at the house to the right you could see that it is built with that sort of material and can basically cut down your options to Jerusalem.

My game went almost exactly like yours (apart from going with Jerusalem on the last round). First 3 rounds were easy, and eventually got perfect scores. Fourth round I searched around western coast of Africa, few Pacific islands and couple countries in the Caribbean, but didn't find anything that would correlate, so eventually guessed St Lucia and ended up with 50 odd points. There wasn't much to lose on the last round anymore, so just went with a quick guess in the middle of Jerusalem and got almost perfect score from that too. But because of the 4th round, ended up with couple 100 less than you.

@@JFlatby I partially agree with you. But he is competitive player. And if he'll not use that ability of his, then he's always gonna loose because every player of his league uses those bollards, cars, etc. I respect his remembering and the content that he makes. And GeoWizard also stated that he is great player in the beg of this video. I'm not going against you as I also use to think the same way before they collaborated.

Hi Tom! Thanks for all the videos, I started again playing geoguessr and these have been very helpful. I learned flags and capitals etc. from the mobile game World Geography by atom games. Might make these odd maps slightly easier, so a strong recommendation if you're into mobile gaming. Keep up the good work!

I got a perfect score on the Israel one😎, found Hebrew letters on signs, looked for the roundabout and street orientation, and the park across the street confirmed my findings. And I also got very close on the Freetown one, down to 500m, basically using the same method Tom used, looked for similar coastline on west coast African Capital cities. And a total score of 22595. I only messed up the Ukraine one for Russia. I can proudly announce I've beaten the GeoWizzard for once!!!😎 The capital city format helped a lot, really narrowed down the areas that needed to be searched.

WOOOO 21,509!!! That was such a fun map, some hard and interesting, but not impossible locations. The fact it's only capitals makes the search smaller and overall more enjoyable for people like me who don't want to spend half an hour looking for a 90 degree street.

In the Jerusalem round, I first made a picture in my head of the street angles, park and roundabout. Then, I zoomed into the map and saw it straight away, probably luck. Nevertheless, I lost the perfect score in my own capital of Amsterdam... Hint: the capital is shown with a dot within a circle on Maps when zoomed out a bit.

The capital of Israel is Jerusalem, Tel Aviv is just a major city and out technology hub city. A tip for you about Jerusalem, if you will look closely on the walls of most buildings in Jerusalem you'll see this sort of stones on the wall that is all over the city. In Israel it's even called Jerusalem Stone, for me its an automatic giveaway. P.S it is forbidden to build a house in Jerusalem without covering the out part of it with this particular atone
