I have learned a lot from your videos. I have a 2006 Lexus RX330 that has the same type thermostat issues. I ask a local shop to price changing the thermostat and they quoted approximately $1100. They also stated a complete water pump change out would also be required when changing the stat. I ask them why since the water pump is on the opposite side of the engine. No comment. Hats off to you. Since then I've been changing my on oil/filter. Changed brakes, both front and back, hopefully plan to change the transmission filter and fluid soon. After watching this one video 3 times I'm starting to believe I can do it. Thanks and God bless you and your family.

I recently did this same job on my RX300. Was only getting to 160. Almost the same exact procedure, except mine has a metal split pipe where the plastic one is. I ordered the gasket that goes there, but I never needed to separate the tube. I have it if it ever leaks, but I figured, why replace it if it's working correctly now. I didn't have to remove it, so I didn't. I see why they went with a solid plastic pipe in the newer 3MZ. Less parts = better. After replacing it with and OEM thermostat, I was amazed at the accuracy of the temperature. It was an 80C thermostat, and it reported exactly 179.6 degrees F after I checked to see if it was working correctly. It does warm up more than that after the radiator reaches equilibrium, but it still amazes me at the accuracy of it.

Any time I do a timing belt and water pump I also change the thermostat. Coolant is already out to do the pump and with the miles on the vehicle it just makes sense. On some Toyota's you have to remove the thermostat to change the pump.

His fuel mileage probably went up due to engine running at proper temperature now. Better heat, quicker engine tolerances up to spec, faster defrost, better mpg.. what's not to like? If owner is reading this thread..I'm surprised at the level of road noise. I wonder if different tires might lower it a bit. Tires won't make up for a window seal out of place or shrunk a bit, but doing a quick search will offer up suggestions for an 04 Sienna. Nice van.👍🙏

Hi Ahmed,Thank,s for another great video. We have six Toyota cars in our family and I service them all since it is my job and has been for thirty years.I like very much the simple way in witch you explain things and procedures so that non mechanics can see and understand the different aspects of our trade.Sometimes people in general don,t realize how much effort it takes to free a rusted fastener or how much you have to unbolt just to get at some component.Videos like these are very good at illustrating these various steps and bring knowledge to the viewer.Keep up the good work,By the way., It is interesting that Toyota puts that thermostat at an 15 degree angle instead of straight up,I wonder way.

You sir are a master! I'm no pro but I've made all my own repairs and services for everything I own for more than 30 years. Repair manuals are written as they are doing a complete tear down and rebuild not just doing a simple repair. So basically if you follow the book exactly sometimes you will perform some unnecessary task. The little drains on the radiators usually leak if I touch them,, so I would pull the lower hose off and drain coolent in a bucket. You do outstanding work! Yer video's are excellent. Thank you!

The thermostat was not closing all the way. I replaced the thermostat and reset all the codes and it was a good fix. No codes came back, and the engine warmed up within the computer's required timeframe. OH, and I have to say I love your Tesla Graveyard count.
