I'm just looking is a "Knee flex" response usually from, "Can I help you guys find something?" Or, "How can I help you today?" Change your questions and you'll change your customer's response. But when you do hear "I'm just looking. We're just shopping. We're not buying today" say this: "No problem folks. Ya know, most people that come here for the first time that's typically their game plan. Look around a little bit. Maybe get some pricing info. Maybe get some payment and down payment info. Maybe get figures on their car and then go home and "THINK ABOUT" whether they want to come back and do business with us." Is that your game plan today?" Customer: YES! Salesperson: Excellent! Were you looking for something bigger or smaller than what you have now?"

Whenever someone told me they were just looking I just smiled wide, brought out my manager voice and asked if they were looking for themselves or for somebody else haha. Regardless of the answer, I'd head right into "right on, did you just come by on a whim or did you see something on our website and come down to look for it?". By this point my energy and enthusiasm already has them, they're already too weak minded to keep rejecting such a nice guy like me and they just defer. Everyone knows you don't just come to a dealership if you're just looking. There's about 1,000,000 other more important things to do. Obviously you'll get that 2% of people who are genuinely just bored with their lives and tire kicking, but the numbers game works in your favour if you're just consistent with the approach.

I just reply with "What for?" Its surprisingly effective. Usually beats an answer out of people

Andy, thank you for posting these videos. I have used a similar word track to overcome the conditional customer response to the I’m just looking objection. I sold my 6th vehicle today, I’ve been selling a little under a month, new to the auto industry from the furniture and retail industry. I am using techniques in your videos as well as my dealerships training. Thank you for your videos.

I start off with asking , “hey good afternoon! What are you looking for?” Then they can’t respond with “I’m just looking”. Because I already acknowledged they are looking!

I usually reply= Fantastic!!! I know where Every truck, Suv, car, new/used are. Can i point you in the right direction?? Then 9/10 times they reply then i say Awesome let me take you over there!!! Then i rebudle with my names Mike then ask them what they need in so and so. It breaks the ice everytime.

Usually when people ask for best price. They're just looking for a full breakdown not necessarily for discounts. Especially in the age with some dealers doing mark ups. I find it funny with all of the people that prefer to buy from a manufacture but Probably 70% of consumers have many questions about the products that they have a hard time finding online.

Had my first lot experience the other day. I was to much in my head. Asked them how they where doing twice. I felt stupid, but I’m not letting it get to me. Awesome video!

I just finished my first month in car sales after 15+ years as a restaurant manager. To say that I am taking a gigantic leap of faith is an understatement. I work at a low volume dealership that averages about 40 cars a month out the door. My first month I sold 11 cars total, which I consider to be successful. This video and the comments and suggestions are amazing! This is the worst response I get from people. After this whole month, it was just me asking the wrong question! So instead of asking "How can I help you today?" or "What can I help you find?" What should I say instead? Any advice would be great! Love the videos as well, Andy!

Hi Andy! Fantastic videos! Got a question; I used to be a Ducati salesman in my 20’s but I was never good at recognizing when to let go of someone who WILL NOT buy. I used to spend far too much time with people who “stopped in to use the bathroom” as the GM would call it. Is there a good way to gauge when someone is truly just a grazer? This happens especially with boutique brands (Triumph, Ducati, BMW, Harley, etc.) where they come to immerse themselves in the culture and atmosphere vs stopping in to purchase. Thank you!
