Sarah, when drilling use cutting oil, it will keep the heat down and your drill bits will last longer. Tap Magic XP-xtra or Anchor Lube, both on the thick side so unlike WD-40 (not a cutting oil) you will not have to keep applying while drilling.

@Kevin-nl2so
@Kevin-nl2so 3 жыл бұрын
Hopefully you see this cuz im posting under replies. Throw those spot weld bits away and pick up a pneumatic or electric belt sander. I do body work for a living, goin on 20 years now. It is ten times faster to grind the spot welds vs drilling them. 60 grit belts work best. 1/2” x 18” I have Onyx and Astro ones. Around $100 for the pneumatic kind. This will be a game changer trust me.

There's a handy little tool you can get for cutting out glued in windscreens, has a nice solid handle so you can control it, a cable attached near the base to get extra pulling power on it and a strong little blade with a 90° bend in it. You work the blade in, twist it perpendicular to the glue joint then pull on it hard, it slices through beautifully so then you can just lift the window out, easy as 👌👍

For future reference to remove a windshield, stick piano wire through the sealer top and bottom in the middle. Then simply use it as a saw with both handles on the outside. Much easier for one person to remove the glass this way. Shouldn't take more than 5 minutes to have the screen on a scrap pile. It will also work if you want to remove it without damage, but you need to take out the molding around the screen fist.

I think his shirt should say 'I wrench' . For windows, we use a square wire nowadays, pulls right through. Insert through the top seam, exit through the bottom (yes, you need a long wire) and you cut through one half of the windshield bond at once. Also I've seen pro's use a very simple looking razor sharp cutting tool they just pull through by hand. Remember, that windshield (and others) are a structural part of the car. They help retain the shape of a car in a crash and have to remain in place when airbags go off. Not like the old days when windshields were fitted in a rubber seal or with butyl tape.
