I had to laugh when you said, "Hopefully he's a good singer." Haha I was mind-blown when I heard him the first time. That is the single most angelic voice I've ever heard in my 43-years on this Earth. I'm glad I lived during an era where I could witness such an other-worldly, soul-moving vocal. What kind of music do you typically teach, as you seemed unmoved by Dimash's performance.

Dimash.. I can't contain my excitement when listening to him! I absolutely love watching the reactions from the singers / vocal coaches.... they all show the same reaction, in the beginning they are talking about techniques etc.. then when Dimash shows what he's got, they all drop their mouth... is fascinating.. I love the fact that I am living in the same era as Dimash - his talent is unique.. never heard before.. I want to hear him live... that would be a dream come true for me!!

His voice is the most beautiful thing that I have ever heard, and I don't say that lightly...I am no expert, however...I experienced so many emotions simultaneously. His vocal range is crazy. He owns the highest vowel range I have ever heard? Some may critique his choice of this song-however-I think it's beautiful. His voice is deeply moving and I found myself fully smiling with tears dropping. He is a one man opera..I cannot wait until he hits the U.S.!

Great reaction, yes Dimash can do it all, and this was his first song in the Singer competition 2017 in China, where he was the first guest singer invited as a wildcard to this professional singers only show. He stunned tye 500 strong audience of judges, and the fellow competitors who were backstage watching. He was 22 years old at this time, from Kazakhstan, speaking only Russian, Kazakh, and a little English. There are 12 episodes and every performance delivers new surprises from this amazing young man who plays piano, dombre (traditional Kazakh stringed instrument) and drums during the competition. He sang in French, English, Russian, Chinese, Italian and Kazakh as well. Please continue to react to him, he is exploding onto the world stage, has fans world wide and has an other show coming up May 19, 2018 in Shenzhen, where at least three American producers will be there scouting him... At the very end of that song he walked off stage and was surprised by his father who had been hiding not to distract his very homesick son, who had been in China for three months rehearsing. Dimash is a very noble, honourable young who speaks very graciously and diplomatic. Thats why millions all ages admire him.. Please be careful with word choice, his fans will support you and subscribe if you can.. Many thanks, please do more, from the Dimash New Zealand Fan Club.

You're hilarious! Yes, I was greatly surprised when I heard Dimash, as I am a metal and rock fan and have a pretty vast knowledge of my favorites. But then Dimash came to sing this song, in French no less, and I was completely blown away to say the least. I think I heard an angel and I got goosebumps as did many of the people I have seen say as well when they listen to him the first time. Thanks for the great review.

He is from Kazakhstan, 22 at the time of this recording, and totally unknown at the time in China. Please do react to more Dimash! Opera 2, Adagio, Unforgettable Day, All By Myself, Confessa + Diva Dance, Jasmine, and just aired today: Hello (the Lionel Richie one), at the Gala ending the Singer 2018 competition, where he was invited back. And by the way, that lady is not his mother. She’s another contestant, Teresa Carpio, ethnically Chinese, lives in Canada. Dimash’s father arrived in time for his second episode, but his mom did not arrive till the last couple of weeks of the competition.

Yea It's time for us all to take on a new hobby /career I myself will be opening up a cars for kids exchange. In all seriousness, I like the fact that, no matter how hard I practice, how much I work at my singing, I will never ever come close to this bloke. That is reassuring, I will always have something to work towards. This bloke , he's nailed it. There is nowhere to go. What's left for him ?? Maybe he will buy into my "cars for kids swap meet franchise" with his prize money and help other singers through the Idol auditions by giving them a "story"

Everyone can be great at what they do, this guy is great but there are many singers who aren't anywhere near as good technically but just as good at getting the point across. Ultimately getting good at the basics is much more important than high notes and all the madness. This is a lesson I learned very late and am still working on daily currently being emotionally comfortable and open when you perform will make any music magical.
@MidlifeRenaissanceMan

Carl John Franz 100% correct. I'm in my 50s now and the one regret is I didn't start singing sooner. 4 strings and I was happy. I could keep up with the best of them, but as part of my midlife Renaissance, I decided to stretch myself and learn to play guitar to performance level, which I can do now, (by knowing what I can't do and leaving it out, and more importantly, as I am a bass player, I know when not to play) Singing is my next challenge. Carl. I find your ideas excellent. Small challenge is that singing is a little harder to practice. I can pull out a guitar on public transport and no one complains. Start singing exercises and they'll call security or the cops on you thinking your some sort of crazy with the lip bubbles and the "gug gugs" The trick to it is to resist, not too much, otherwise you might get hurt or even killed, but resist just enough that they give you the really good drugs !!!

Chris Wilson the interesting thing here is that he didn’t win! Dimash came in 2nd place. He was a complete unknown in China and this competition only invites popular and well established singers to compete. The winner, Sandy Lam, is very popular in China. Dimash did gain over 1 million fans within the first two weeks of the competition on Weibo (China’s version of twitter). Since this show he has released two singles in China and both went to #1 on the charts within 30 minutes of their release.

He's absolutely amazing and he gives me the chills when he sings this song. I've showed it to my family and friends. The thing is, everybody (me included) can say that his French pronunciation is not good, and that without the subtitles (or knowledge of the song) we would have pretty much no idea what he's singing. Also he makes the same mistake several time, singing "j'suis mal dans ma peau" instead of "plus beau vu d'en haut", which doesn't make sense in the song. BUT I DON'T CARE. I mean it's tough singing in other languages, especially when it's such a different language from his own. So I applaud him and I don't really care. I love him. I have an accent when singing in English and Spanish, I can't imagine singing in HIS language, it would be crazy difficult!

Dimash is way beyond a simple thumbs up. He a singing phenomenon that according to Kazakh legend happens only once in a hundred years. The characters shown on the side lines were other singers competing against Dimash in the Singer competition, including the older woman who is a Chinese American singer of repute. The man with her is one of the Chinese hosts of the Singer competition.

"Singing is not for everyone, just like any other profession on this planet"!I've studied music since I was 5 years old and it did not reach half of what he can do but then ... I do not think it's legal to compare one person, one singer, with the other! My mother used to say: "Every singer, every human being, is unique" people should stop comparing themselves with others ... and especially accept that he(Dimash) SINGS A LOT!! And sorry for my English, English is my second language, so ...*

But that is not his mother.... those were the other singers waiting in the green room....This was the first time they or the audience had ever heard him sing... and if you think he's done... you ain't seen nothing yet....F2 to D8... yes... off of the piano keyboard .... The gentleman in the audience with tears is his father...

His father was not in China at a time. Dimash went alone to China to participate in this program. He was 22 years old and didn't speak any Chinese at a time. He had a translator. He must have felt pretty lonely in China at first, until he made some new friends.

For a vocal coach you didn't say much about his vocals, also the reaction seemed a bit shallow and had no substance. You were just like "wow yeah he's good". Not trying to hate, just some constructive criticism.

there is not much to say, man. what is he gonna say? "oh, you should really improve this or that". The guy is obviously a pro and has amazing voice control. "this is amazing" is a perfectly viable reaction.

@@TheVergile Yes, but still, he should explain some of the technique, and why this is exceptional compared to other singers, give some background, I don't know. I was also expecting more.

irmar I understand where you’re coming from but despite him being a professional vocal teacher, he is allowed to react in the way that normal people do. He is allowed to be in awe of his voice and he probably didn’t have much to say out of wanting to just appreciate Dimash’s vocals rather than constantly pausing the video every 2 seconds to explain every nook and cranny of the present vocal techniques and emotions displayed in the song.

@@HumbleDoug I've watched many vocal coach reactions to this performance, and not one has displeased me due to the fact that they all were in awe and very much enjoyed his performance all the same, he's just damn near perfect in technique and most just seem to be spellbound with not much to say, don't depend on vocal coaches too much and listen to the music to pick up on the epic display of voice control and range this guy can maintain almost effortlessly.

g'day carl from oz,this is my 2 cents worth from watching your comments /reactions. there's something about you i like .and resonates with me . and it's been bugging me ,so here goes . you're holding back a bit ,and a bit undercover and maybe a bit hesitant for some reason revealing your ability and gifting in your game[singing coach] that you have .so here's mendela's quote again for your homework “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.” Nelson Mandela. we want to see more of you and your special intuitive talent and expertise .all the best ;love your style .[and hope this is not just about my heart ].love your comment "this guy is not fucking around people" [now that's deep ,concise articulate highly technical analysis that an aussi can get and appreciate] .now that's a "compressed" [see i knew i'd learned something of the lingo from watching these vocal coach/teacher reactions ] comment.as we say out here if we don't watch to much american television ;"have a good one " [mate]
