2008 Ford EdgeAWD here, 140kMiles, original PTU with Oil changes made easy as follows: ~ Drill+Tap PTU bottom between ExhaustPipe & TranMt, installed Fumoto10mmDrainValve. ~ Replaced 1/2"*14 FillPlug on PTU side with 1/2"*14 to 3/8"HoseBarb90 pointed upward. ~ Removed PTU TopVentCap+Rubber1Way wIth 5/8"Socket+ScrewPick, reveals 3/8"HoseBarb. ~ Installed two 3/8"OilHoses from PTU HoseBarbs to FireWall between BattTray+FuseBox. ~ Installed FiberGlassInsulationWrap around ExhaustPipe under ear PTU. ~ Installed OilCatchCan with FIlteredVent on FireWallTopLip between BattTray+FuseBox. ~ Refilled PTU 1/2qt=16oz 75w140 HiTemp AmsOil thru above new OilCatchCan+Hoses. ~ Routinely Drain+Refill PTU at 5kMile\6Mth intervals, along with EngineOil+Filter changes.

Hi Prasad, First of all thank you for detailed videos of DIY on Mazda CX-9! Videos capture all the tools and detailed step by step instructions......very thorough job! I too have a 2012 CX-9 AWD. I had a transfer case failure and mazda replaced it under warranty at 56k miles last year. I already put 10k miles on the new transfer case. Now wondering if i should do a fluid change on the TC? As you know there are many failures people reported on the TC as it is the weakest link, what do you think of keeping the car long term? or trade in for another reliable car? Just FYI- i also just did a ATF change after seeing your video! I like the spacious cx-9 but worried about the transfer case, water pump failure toasting the engine etc. Transfer case replacement will be around $1500 at dealership as i will run out of 7 yrs/90k miles if it fails again. Some people reported on mazdas247 forum that their TC failed even after regularly changing out fluids! Dunno what to do!.

thanks.. this is fwd? I have a clicking sound when I turn sharp while accelerating.. even after replacing both CV axles on my Front Wheel Drive CX9... im told its the differential.. now thinking of having it flushed and oil replaced.

I did this to my 2015 mazda cx9 at 60k and holy fuck I could feel the oil like tar in the case I was able to get about half a water bottle worth out now going to drive it for a couple hundred miles and repeat the process 2 or 3 more times.

What is the service interval for the transfer case oil?? I replaced it months ago and feel it needs service again
