Wow, I saw this very late. I had a very nasty problem with cyanobacteria becuase I used for too long an algicide (API ALGAEFIX). It got so bad that it killed a lot of the bucephalandra I had in that tank. My theory is that because I was killing all of the algae, the cyanobacteria took over and almost ruined my tank. Now I know that it's better to have some algae than to deal with cyanobacteria.

It's not an algae, it's a bacteria

I have it in a 100 liter tank set up as a river strea with a huge reef tank powerhead so it seems that poor circulation is not a key factor. I will use the blackout method for 5 days and maybe I will also add some potassium nitrate trying to rebalance N and P

Hi Tracy. Yes BBA can be very annoying :/ I'm actually planning to create a video about it, I just want to be prepared for it and get some good material. And re-scape? Always fun! :D If you decide to go for it - let me know about the results ;)

hi! do i have to turn off the co2 during blackout? coz i understand plants dont need co2 when there is no light?
@AquascapingCube
@AquascapingCube 4 ай бұрын
Yes, definitely. Plants don't need it and CO2 could kill your fish during longer blackout.

So all i have to do is cover my aquarium with blankets for 5 days and let 0 sunlight or brightness in and dont feed or allow co2 and then it should be gone?
@AquascapingCube
@AquascapingCube 4 ай бұрын
Yes, exactly. You just need to be sure that there is ZERO light comming in. So be precise about covering your tank. And make sure that this blanket doesn't let any light through. Just cover it, and don't touch anything :)

Thanks for your reply! Absolutley, there is no light of any kind making its way into the aquarium its pitch black, i hope that it fixes my issue. Also side note, am i allowed to peak inside for 5 seconds at a time and close it right back up?@@AquascapingCube
@AquascapingCube
@AquascapingCube 4 ай бұрын
@@ploobmann894 I wouldn't. You really need to 'starve' the algae from any light. But if you really have to - do it in the evening.

It worked perfectly! everything was gone. however, a couple days later i noticed it again lol. Is there a way of making sure it never comes back alive? or should i just keep doing blackouts every so often, im not sure what is the best plan of action@@AquascapingCube

Hi! Yes, 5 to 7 days is really not a problem. 3 days will not be enough in most cases.
