In this video we take the first steps to build a CycleKart Frame.
Edit. The front cross member should be back at least 13" from the front of the frame, 14" is even better. My drawing shows 12", at that measurement, the axle will hit the drop floor when the springs compress. I discovered this later and had to cut the frame and move it back.

Yes, I'm down below Houston, if I can get a group going I may switch to the 212, I have a good one, been run very little, I will make sure I can adapt either engine to the same drive setup, like you said, it's yours, you can do what you want. I did see a lot of the Predators but didn't know It was required , thanks for the reply.

Right on. I'm pretty sure there are some karts in the Houston area. Check our facebook page or post on the Cyclekartclub.com site, pretty sure there are a few in the area already and I'm sure those guys would love for you to join them.

Thank you for watching. My kart has a differential, so both rear wheels have power. Many cyclekarts use a solid rear go-kart axle and have only one rear wheel keyed.

Any suggestions on where to buy cheap metal for your builds?

Hi Steve thanks for this great Video, I am planning my build for the fall & presently gathering parts. Wondering if you can answer a few questions? 1st question? Using 3/4 “ shaft Motor is 6 1/2 hp. 3/4. Shaft Torque convertor is Preditor Go Cart clutch set 3/4” 12 teeth 35 chain Do I need a 48/12 to equal 60 tooth ratio? My example of what I read is to aim for 60 tooth sprocket. 2nd question? I am looking to find a sprocket hub to install on 3/4” axle to hold the large sprocket, seems to be lots available with 1” & 5/8” bore. Any suggestion of where to get a 3/4” Or maybe a reducer sleeve 1” to 3/4” Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
@stevevinson6030
@stevevinson6030 2 жыл бұрын
Couple clarifications. The 3/4" shaft is the output shaft on the motor. The rear axle should be a 1" diameter, that probably answers question #2. I like the 6:1 ratio on my gearing. So if you have a 12T on the TAV, try to find a 72 tooth sprocket for the rear axle. My kart is a 10T with a 60T sprocket, my sons kart is a 12T with a 72 tooth sprocket, same ratios. You should be able to find the parts at MFG Supply or Go Power Sports or NR Racing.

There are several completed or near completed Cyclekarts for sale in Arizona. if you visit the www.cyclekartclub.com they are listed in the for sale section. contact me on facebook if you want to commission a kart. Hi Steve, I just watched your video's on building the frame, Very nice, and I appreciate you not showing drilling and welding. I was interested in what you do to the engines if anything, I see the exhaust. I have a GX 270 9.0 HP from a pressure washer that the pump went bad, It's a good engine. I only found out about cyclekarts about a week ago and have been looking for something to do with the engine, I have everything I need for shop equipment, I'm a retired Machine tool mechanic and diesel engine machinist. I do not have any sheet metal tools, I really wanted to build a wooden body. Thanks again, Great info.

Welcome to the madness. The guidelines for Cyclekarts ask us to not use a motor larger than the Honda GX200 or Predator 212. If you dont plan to attend a club event, then I guess anything goes. Thanks for watching. Cheers

Still new to this arena. I have a question. Instead of 1"x 3" why not use 1"x 2" in an 0.083 thickness. Should be just as strong and much easier to weld on or to. Thanks Steve. Locally where do guys get steel nowadays.
@stevevinson6030
@stevevinson6030 7 ай бұрын
We use the 1x3 just because it looks a bit like the old time frames that these cars had originally. If your inspiration car has a different style of frame, just make it look as much like that as possible.

@@stevevinson6030 in terms of stiffness, would you think that a 3/4 x 2.5 (1/16) frame would work fine? or should i add a cross brace section ...

I know if at least 2 cyclekarts that are built with Aluminum Frames. Most choose steel because it is easy to weld.

I have found used Honda CT 90 wheels on craigslist and online places like that. You can order brand new versions made in Thailand, a guy here in Phoenix has a good supply of them, email to andrew@in-groundtrampolines.com The tires I get from an online motorcycle supply company. I have used a few different ones, Amazon usually has the sizes we need also.
