The Canary Islands! These 7 little pieces of paradise is where Belén and I set out to cycle last fall, climbing all of them in a period of 7 weeks, commuting with the Naviera Armas ferry in between.

Wow, I must say this is an awesome video! The drone shots, your narration and even the choice of Spanish music is perfect. I hope I can also bike and camp at the Canary islands. Do the campsites have restrooms and showers?

Thank you for your kind words! Most official campsites do, but we didn’t stay at them so I can’t confirm! The picnic spaces sometimes have working fountains or public toilets.

Love the videos of the Canary Islands. I'm fortunate to be going to Tenerife in a month with Gertrude (my bike!). Based on your video I've already booked a day excursion on the ferry to Gran Canaria. Keep up the good work. That tunnel info was golden too. Is this the new Tunnel on the GC-200 coast road?

Spectacular video! I'm guessing you're from Norway as you mentioned it in this video... I must say, you write and speak beautiful English. Better than most natives 😉 including myself! I've visited Tenerife. It was OK. I visited Fuertaventura, it was a shit hole! I think I'll visit GC and explore by bike. I looks the best island, what would you say? Thank you 🙏

That’s great to hear. The camping permit can be obtained through the local Cabildo. Those issue them.

Hi, I was lately in Gran Canaria for cycling and hiking which is really perfect at this time of the year. I was wondering whether the tunnel which automatic bike detection is the vrey long tunnel between Agaete and Puerto de la Aldea? I took the bus and I not really sure whether I would like to go there on a bike. Luidger PS: BTW love your series of video on cycling on the Canary Islands. I visited all of them during the last years and did some cycling and hiking.

Sounds good, Luidger! I’m not sure which tunnel it was exactly, but I think it was east of Agaete. Cycling tunnels for cars is never fun, but this one was well maintained and peaceful when we came through. Thanks for the compliment on my series, I’d love to go back and redo our Canary Islands ride sometime!

Fantastic clip about GC. Im heading here in August and wanted to see your route. Do you use strava? what was the town you said was one of most bwautiful in spain on GC? really want to head there on my bike.

I don't use Strava at the moment, but might consider it sometime in the future (battery consumption is my biggest concern). Tejeda is that town. Really, really lovely place. It's quite a feed to cycle up there though! If you do, visit the pastry shop in town... it's called Roque Nublo, I think.

Been watxhing your videos for awhile now. We are traveling from Barcelona to Canary Islands. Do you know how much to pay on airlines with bikes? Thank you.

Airlines can charge anywhere between €40 and €80 per bike per person. Search online for (airline) and (bike) and you’ll be taken straight to their policies. I personally like Vueling, as I’ve experienced them as attentive and well priced.

Fantastico. I thought camping is prohibited on GC because as you said risk of fires? Does getting a permit mean you can camp anywhere or do you have to use campsites? And where exactly do you get the permits to camp and how much do they cost? Always a cost. Would love to cycle tour on GC but prefer to ride my own bike and camp rather than hire a bike and stay in hotels. Btw it would be nice to have translation in English subtitles what the tunnel guy was saying? You didn't play any golf?

Here you are: cabildo.grancanaria.com/-/oiac-tramites-acampadas-albergues-y-areas-recreativas No cost as far as I know, but you do need to collect the permit in person (unless you have a Spanish DNIe or digital certificate, in which case you download it immediately)
