Cymbalta or Duloxetine is a medication that is used to treat mainly Depression and Anxiety but also is used to treat Fibromyalgia, Diabetic and other types of Neuropathy, Joint pain and even Hot Flashes related to menopause. Get a doctors perspective on how this mediation can help you and what to expect while taking it. You'll learn about both common and some of the more rare side effects that you should watch out for.
Cymbalta (Duloxetine) is in the family of medications called Serotonin Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI). They influence the amount of Serotonin and Norepinephrine that is available to help with mood and other functions of the body.
With depression you tend to have symptoms like difficulty concentrating, remembering things or making decisions. Fatigue, feelings of guilt, worthlessness, helplessness or hopelessness. People experience sleeping problems, mood swings, a loss of interest in things that you once enjoyed, appetite changes, generalized pain, persistent sad or empty feelings and even suicidal thoughts or attempts.
Those who are going through anxiety you may have symptoms such as sudden and unexplained onset of a rapid heart rate, sweating, trembling, shortness of breath, pain in your chest, fear of dying, numbness and tingling throughout your body or just a generalized feeling of anxiousness all the time that you just can’t explain.
If you are experiencing these symptoms you need to seek help from a professional. Go see your doctor and get an accurate diagnosis to figure out a good treatment plan for you. Remember depression and anxiety are real medical conditions and should be treated just as diabetes or high blood pressure need to be treated. You shouldn’t feel any different treating any one of these medical conditions.
We'll give a good overview in the video of the common side effects but its important to remember that most side effects if any are transient and can be minimized by working with your doctor. We will discuss more concerning side effects such as serotonin syndrome as well.

whats frustrating about these medications is how long you need to take just to see if they help. then its trying different ones if they dont work and going through the same process. that kind of feels helpless and overwhelming to think about.

I have been on 60mg for almost a year now and it has definitely helped my neuropathy but the biggest benefit has been in battling depression. I was to the point that I was in a constant daily rage at everyone and everything in my life. I have been married over forty years but my wife said she would have no choice but to move out because of my constant anger. I still have depressive days but taking this med has been the best thing I could have ever done.

I felt my anxiety and depression beginning to lessen the very first day of taking duloxetine, although the first pill made me vomit violently. Fortunately that didn't happen the subsequent days. I was very surprised it has worked so fast as anti-depressants usually take a longer time to have an effect. I've only taken duloxetine for 4 days now but I'm already feeling so much better. No more racing thought or crippling anxiety. I actually want to live again! I was anxious about starting duloxetine after reading how horrible experiences people have had with it. But to, so far, this med has been a life saver. Just goes to show that people are different and you can't really know if the med suits you until you try. The only negative side-effect beside the first day vomiting has been trouble sleeping. I hope that it will dissipate as time goes by.

I took this medicine during the peak period of Fibromyalgia pain. Thank god, It is over now. These pain medications never leave your system. I read a report - 3D holistic report which opened my eyes. Holistic techniques are the way to go and they are way more powerful than we imagined. Our body is extremely powerful and intelligent, we seem to have forgotten this. Why didn’t he mention that if you’ve been taking Cymbalta for a long time, you can’t really ever wean yourself off of it. The withdrawal side effects are awful. Your doctor should warn you because they know about it. This information should be passed on so that people can decide if they want to start this medication or choose something else.

Thank you Dr. Great info with great delivery! I have been taking Cymbalta for 3 months now. At first, it made me feel a little sluggish and I had that medicated feeling on 30mg for the first two weeks, but by week 4 was feeling a lot better mentally and not feeling medicated. After a month I was ready to go up to 60 mg once a day. Again, with the upgrade, I had a little of the tired medicated feeling first week or two and by week 4 was feeling again better with no dry mouth or that sleepy medicated feeling. The only side effect I have had has been increased sweating which I never had a problem with before, but it only when it is really hot or I am exercising or working hard physically, don't love that, but so worth it because of the good results I have had to both my depression and anxiety. Another benefit my Dr. noted was that Duloxetine was a weight neutral anti-depressant drug for most. Today I am sleeping better, in less pain, and have a decently normal mood. I have severe Psoriatic Arthritis so this is a great drug added to my list of the biologics and DMARDS. Thanks again.

I wonder if it will balance out? I want this to work, but not sure if I can handle these effects longterm. (Also, I took Pristiq a few years back for several months and It did well at first, then nothing so I decided to stop. That was a mistake. I switched to taking it at night. I feel strange like i can't wake up or like i'm in a dream state. Disconnected. I did quickly notice one major benefit and that is the feeling of calm. No racing thoughts, or worried thinking. I'm going to continue for 3 more weeks in hopes that this strange dreamlike state will ease up.

Why should I develop a dependence to see if it works? Why do Antidepressants and Gabapentinoids go first in chronic pain when the bottomline of most researches is that they only reduce the ammount of opioids needed (by potentiating their effect which until now was considered dangerous)? Is it less dangerous to get a constant influx of two drugs that don't work in order to take less of a drug that actually works? Isn't that kinda contradictive and doesn't it seem manipulative when they try push 2 or 3 more drugs that have their own severe side effects and cost 10-15 times more when it is a fact that they end up being used concurently in a dangerous fashion which has already caused deaths? Why are opioids/alcohol (a well known gabaergic drug) dangerous but opioids/gabapentinoids aren't? What am I missing here?

I have lyme disease which has completely destroyed my life. Especially since I can't find a doctor even willing to help me go into remission. An lyme literate doctors cost thousands of dollars which I don't have. So, it's like going to bed at 24 & waking up 80. For the first time in my life, I can't take care of myself. It's put me into a horrible depression an thoughts of suicide run rampant in my brain. The pain alone makes you want to put a bullet in your brain. I'm supposed to start Cymbalta tomorrow and I'm scared as hell. I'm terrified of most medications but I stay away from one's that can cause withdrawal or I have to be on for life. She has me doing 30mg for right now. Hopefully it helps with the pain as I've been told it does by other people with lyme disease.

Hi my name is Nick I suffer with chronic lyme disease for about 6 years and a half now. The doctor gave me the same medications but I haven't started the medications because I read some of the comments here. And the side effects can be scary Plus for myself I don't want to get depended on this type of anxiety and depression medication if it's hard to get off when you finally get off of it and then you have these severe side effects. I would love to talk to you a little about your story but how you got Lyme disease. Hopefully we can both support each other and give each other's advice of what works for us what medications we take if it's supplements or different medications from the doctor. I'm for sure I have fibromyalgia because I have aching shoulders and aching neck through the whole day when I go to bed I have to use heating pads. I have chronica issues I lost a lot of weight I have severe depression and anxiety. I'm always consistently thinking about a lot of things I should be thinking about in life. I take a good quality mega three fish oil I take gabapentin and Flexeril. I'm on a low dose of methadone 40 mg I go to a clinic I was at 175 mg many years ago and then I decided to taper but at that time when I started tapering I started getting a little withdrawals. I started saying to myself I shouldn't get withdrawals really fast for me to taper 1 mg every week. At that time I found out that I had Lyme disease and that was the reason why but I was misdiagnosed for almost a year. I went to doctor to doctor to get a different opinions some doctors looked at me as a patient and not a human some doctors only can do so much with the protocols through the CDC. I'm going to end this message I don't want to make it too long. I will talk to you more about what testing that I got done and more of my story.

@@cardinalsdd if it helps, I've never had any side affects with it other than the desired effects. It dulled the pain and helped with my constant relentless migraines at the cost of a little bit brain power. I only noticed. A difference in cognition because I was studying maths at the time. It also made me start sleeping at night instead of sleeping every 3 days and took enough pain out of my legs that I could feel them so I could walk without a little better. My condition was extremely bad at the time so on the day I started it my sense of space was disturbed a little for maybe a week (curbs felt higher for instance) and I started thinking things were pretty. It's worth concidering that going from being completely un medicated to that state is why I had the side effects. The most important thing as that these medications target the system we use to feel things. So there is no avoiding feelin effects but our doctors know how to put us on it in a way that isn't scary. Ik las dingen over mensen die moestten overgeven etc en ik werd er alleen maar angstiger van. Iedereen reageert anders op medicatie. Fingers crossed dus!

A single dose of 30 mg has made me feel very sick and tired. I took it last night and now I feel horrible. It's hard to eat because of this nausea. If I had taken 60 mg or take a 2nd dose, I would probably throw up. I advise everyone to avoid this toxic drug.

Just started today. Got sleepy, but after a while that left, and I had lots of energy. Did get a little dry mouth, and I seem to have very little pee coming out though I feel like I have to go. I have fibromyalgia, and now joint pain. So Dr. gave me this Rx. Coincidentally, I have hot flashes, anxiety, adhd, chronic lower back pain, tingling feet in the morning and I startle super easy. It would be cool if this fixes all of that, as it seems to help a lot of other stuff I have. I’ll post an update after a week or so.

This is such an excellent and well explained video. Dr. You explained everything with such kindness and compassion. I was given Duloxetine some type of reaction to in the past. I like how you explained if you need it deprive yourself. Because I'm going through some depression depression and anxiety and I'm hurting myself I'm not trying this. I took one medication my psychiatrist gave me and the first one I talk make me feel really great the first day the second day I took the medicine I was like a zombie. I just laid in the bed and cutting the function only to get up to go to the bathroom so I talked to the doctor and he told me not to take it anymore. If only that medication would have worked like I did the first day I will be happy go lucky. But I'm about to start taking the Cymbalta because I need to feel better not suffer. I'm not going to know how a medication works if I don't give it a try. Thank you so much for this video...✌🏽❤🙏🏽😊

Good luck when you try to get off it lol. Been on 120 mg. Quit cold turkey after 2 years. Worst withdrawal symptoms in my life!!! Had to learn how to walk again with out the medicine… I only was strong enough to quit cause I went back to church and pray. Brain zaps, motion sickness, feeling like i was going to die. Good luck when y’all wanna quit this shit will f u up soo bad you would regret going on it. Depression goes away with time, anxiety you gotta face your fears. Oh yea the nightmares after you quit are wild lol

I was prescribed DULoxetine 30mg about 2 months ago. Only had one violent meltdown since. However, i had to go 2 days without it because my refill wasnt called in. On the second day i found myself drifting in and out of consciousness at work.

Some complain of feeling that way. It's not what we are hoping for you. If it isn't improving then you should talk with your doctor about a different option.

Why does the doctor ask me to walk 40 minutes every day? Is a depressed person going to walk every day? What came first, the chicken or the egg? It’s so stupid. I’ve been on it two months and don’t notice any difference in my mood.

I'm taking 30mg in the am, Pain associated with diabetic neurapathy is almost completely gone! Downside is I feel sluggish and fairly unemotional. Having some issues with sleep, but that's not unusual for me. Taking other meds too, so being careful to Communicate with my doctors and follow their directions to the letter. (For ONCE!, Instead of "self medicating)
