What Orthodox Jewish Women Are Wearing In New York | Modest Style
This week we venture to New York to see different orthodox jewish communities (and hassidic communities) like Borogh park (Boro park), Flatbush, Chabad Crown heights, to see how Orthodox Jewish women really dress. is it really all dark and drab, or is there another story altogether?

Hey Guys, just wanted to pop in about masks: This was filmed in that weird haze that was post delta but pre omicron. Basically around the time I filmed New York Fashion week. Both in this video, and in my NYFW vids you will not see people wearing masks often. Unfortunately, this is not the reality anymore, and New York is back to wearing masks. Stay safe everyone and get your boosters!

Yeah jewish practices are very similar to Islam. Kosher concept almost the same with halal… do you know actually jewish women shall covered their hair too just like hijab concept..
@NaomiOff
@NaomiOff 2 жыл бұрын
@@RizTheUrbanExplorer Islam and Judaism are very close that's for sure. Jewish women do cover their hair but not like the hijab concept. In the 613 commandments in the torah not one is written about the hair (while in islam it is written in the Coran), and you find it only in the Talmud. Because there is not actual "God law" for the hair, the interpretation of it is very vast. Some girls wear a scarf, some others just put a hat, some have a headband, some have a wig... In Israel the you will see most of the times wigs among the mature women, and headband and scarfs where you always see a part or all the hair (like the links below) among younger women. Exemple of scarf : www.etsy.com/ie/listing/808628568/amazing-soft-joyful-headscarf-tichel Exemple of headband : anindigoday.com/how-to-wear-headbands/

I grew up in New York - Rockaway to be exact. I grew up in a black baptist church where we would get dressed up every Sunday. My mom would go over to Broadway in Nassau county to shop in the Jewish stores. Tailored clothes, beautiful hats...absolutely divine fashion! Clothes so well made they’d fit perfect. We’d see Jewish families on Saturdays and be like dannnnggggg, you go ladies! Dressed sharp from head to toe!

Totally agree!! I grew up Christian and we were always taught to dress modestly. Although we wear pants, we dress in a fun and modest way. A lot of the times people think that you have to dress in a boring way to be modest, that’s farthest from the truth. You can wear fun colors and prints and still dress modestly!!

I Alcatel across this video… isn’t Jewish clothes supposed to be isolating. Cause, let me tel you one thing I know about outside Christian world , at least about Russia. Not all non-Jews are in communion with the God on Abraham,Yitzhak and Jacob, unclean spirits rather. That’s why Jew watch not to intermingle with goyim. And clothes must not be provocative. It’s a guard. Isn’t it so?

I recently joined an Apostolic Pentecostal Church and at first I wasn't really a fan of the whole women wearing skirts thing. I'm a guy who's really into fashion and I will one day on my own fashion line. and I just viewed skirts to be frank ugly. But after watching this video I realize there are so many different creative ways to be modest.

@Nicki Elmore As if pants couldn't put a distinct between the sexes. I've seen powerful modest women of God who look very feminine wearing pants. I think you can be Holy and wear pants. Not in a immodest way of course. But in a way that both honors God and self expressive. I just believe you can be modest with pants and makeup and modest with a skirt_dress and no makeup.

@Nicki Elmore I mean in terms of traditions, not a slave to God. Being a slave to God is a beautiful things. I mean just getting too caught up in traditions and religious customs. I mean being a slave to those traditions and customs. I see where your heart is and I honor and respect it. You want to honor God and not the traditions of man. What a wonderful video! As a conservative Jewish gal, I used to fall prey to the stereotypes of how more religious Jewish women dress. It was only after living in Israel for a while that I realized how Orthodox women can and do defy those images, especially looking at Mizrahi Orthodox women in Israel. Those ladies LIVE for patterns, bright colors, and simply WORKING it AND staying modest. It was all really eye-opening. I am always working through the idea of "what does it mean to be modest for myself, and in what moments" through the lens of my own religiosity and relationship to my body. It’s true. But the older you get the more you appreciate how powerful Tznius really is. Women have tremendous power to influence the people around them. We can present ourselves as classy PEOPLE or we can belittle ourselves and become objects. That does not mean look ugly or frumpy. It means creating an environment where both men and women respect each other as humans. It’s sad that the secular world is trying so hard to get to this place but there is a huge cognitive dissonance in their approach. If you objectify yourself it’s hard to be respected. ( not that that gives permission for someone to abuse you just that you should foster the respect for Yourself). Most orthodox Jewish women don’t tolerate inappropriate remarks from men. But honestly most men don’t speak to us that way because we make a clear message in the way we present ourselves.

Other than that, traditional Scottish outfits are embraced at the following occasions: -weddings - ceilidhs (traditional Scottish dancing) -rugby/occasionally football games -Highland games -Piping festivals They consist of a woollen kilt, ghillie shirt and ghillie brogues, a suit jacket & waist coat, thick socks and a sgian dubh (pronounced ski-an doooo 😁) as a basic but can be upgraded with additional extras. Love your channel as ever! When I lived in Brooklyn I would walk through Williamsburg and Borough Park and noticed the differences in each community, and some of the fashion. It's all about: the hair/wig, the bag, the length of the skirt and the shoes. I felt like everyone was checking me out hair-bag-skirt-shoes over and over. Once you get used to it you can dress for the neighborhood. Keep up the good work!

Batsheva, can I just say wow?! I haven't been on KZfaq for a while (took a little break) and just watched this and my goodness! This is awesome. I love this style of filming/editing for you and you're so perfect for it. I learned so much and you definitely feel like you're in your element. Can't wait to see where KZfaq takes you

Great video, great energy! I am not a Jew, nor do I dress modestly (as a rule). But I do live in the Upper Midwest where it's cold a lot of the year, so I'm always looking for fun fashion ideas that cover skin. I think when you're given a constraint, such as dressing modestly, you're forced to get creative. And DANG, you Jewish gals are BRINGING IT with the lewks and attitude. In love. Thanks for sharing a little bit of your world. Fascinating!

It's so interesting to see the differences between American Orthodox Jewish women's fashion and Israeli Orthodox Jewish women's fashion. I'm not Orthodox but I have friends who are and I can say that only in the past five years or so I've been seeing Orthodox women dress in a more "fashion forward" way. I can say that my Conservative or Reform Jewish friends have adopted a more out of the box style before my Orthodox friends, who are now starting to adopt more "secular" trends. It's also interesting to see how over the past few years, Hassidic men have become very fashion forward when it comes to styling their suits.

Absolutely love this, I'm not Jewish, I'm Pagan but I live in an orthodox Jewish area outside Philly and modest fashion is extremely important to me. I like layering because it's difficult to find individual pieces that cover everything that needs to be covered. And dressing modestly is part of my personal values but I also want to take into consideration the people in the community I live in. Thank you for this great video!

This is quite interesting to me and has really opened my eyes. I'm not Jewish, but a Christian woman, and modesty is important to me as well. I'm not the most fashionable woman as far as what I wear, but I still love clothes and seeing what others wear. Thanks for making it clear that not all Orthodox Jewish woman dress in the stereotypical way that's usually portrayed in the media. I'm glad my eyes were open about this so that I don't keep carrying the stereotypes in my mind. :)
