I have had three growing here at home in Queensland , all died NOT from any cool winter nights , but drying out from lack of watering . They will only tolerate a few cool nights at or slightly above 10 degrees Celsius at most, so long as it warms up in the day . As soon as the soil temperature drops below 15 degrees C they will start to suffer and develop fungal brown spots on the frond leaves which eventually kills the plant if not controlled with an anti-fungal agent . They need constant warmth , water and humidity.

I am growing a lipstick palm in my room for two years. It is about 1m tall. I water it on a weekly basis just like any other indoor palm, when soil is dry and pot is quite light. It seems to thrive in such watering. It is ridiculusly slow growing palm, you can get 2 maybe 3 new leafs a year
